The party responds instantly to another round of combat, with the giants lagging close behind.
Lorath gathers the 100 or so gems, reverts to hummingbird form, and makes his way to the party.
The water elemental and giants exchange blows, with each doing some damage.
Meanwhile, the party huddles around Vorsyin. The mage, well protected by his fellows, begins his incantation. As the party takes position, three boulders rain down upon them...one connects with Brax, but the other two miss wildly.

The Mad and Mighty Mage completes his incantation. A pea-sized ball of scarlet energy drifts from his hand, gaining speed as it zips across the Rift, disappears from sight, and EXPLODES in a concussive inferno. Bellows of frost giants rise drown out the howling wind, as their scorched bodies writhe in pain. Caught within the blast, the elemental is also vaporized.
The mage's powerful attack has an outsized effect on the icy battlefield. Indeed, the very shelf on which the giants stand heaves, cracks, and collapses with a rumbling crash!

The giants, or their scorched bodies, tumble to the the floor of the Rift. A cloud of steam and snow rises. The party cannot see exactly how and where the shelf collapsed or if any giants survived...but they do know that they have a clear path, free of pursuers, to escape from the Rift!!!
