Leaving his spears sticking out of the sand, Bog draws his keen edged sword and begins swinging at nearby rats...

To Hit, Longsword [1d20+3] = 11+3 = 14
Damage, Longsword (S/M) [1d8+6] = 5+6 = 11

To Hit, Longsword [1d20+3] = 6+3 = 9

To Hit, Longsword [1d20+3] = 1+3 = 4

A confident smirk crosses Caelvanna's as the swarming rats penetrate the bubble barrier. 'Like shooting fish in a barrel' she thinks to herself as she feels her grip on her bowstring loosen and lets her first arrow take flight. She quickly retrieves a second arrow from her quiver in a well-practiced action and, allowing the vermin to draw just a bit closer, lets loose a second arrow. Then a third.

At the sight of the glowing eyes, Emm's blood runs cold. As usual, the fear creeping up her spine angers her beyond words! Her wisdom, however, is in full swing, and she knows this time she is far from helpless.

Speak With Animals, rats.

The Druid bolts from her post toward the trail edge. Flee! You will all DIE if you tarry here! Clear a path for me, I am coming through! Keep away from me, or I will burn you! She repeats this message until she is within 70 feet from the evil eyes, hoping the dim rodent minds will be convinced the Wall of Fire is her doing.

Ulrich gets a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach, upon seeing the glowing eyes. He follows after Emm, sending a prayer to Moradin for strength and fortune.

If he can safely and reasonably do so, Ulrich will hand or toss a vial of holy water each to Emm and Lauranna. "For use upon the fiend," he says.

How far away are the glowing eyes? Can Ulrich make a melee attack on a rat before that creature comes within melee range? If so, Ulrich will do so. If not, he will ready his scroll.

Assuming Ulrich can make a melee attack as noted above: To hit with mace [1d20] = 6

OOC: I know you were busy with work bro, so we can say that Ulrich would have given them out to each party member when he came on watch (since that was the plan, right?) So yeah, we can definitely say they each have a vial of holy water.

Ulrich was in Bogdan and Zimba's general location down by the command tent, so we'll say he'd be @ 75' away, give or take. And yes, Ulrich, Bog and the others there on the beach were all weapons ready and will be able to attack. Plus you have weapons reach, so would be able to attack first. Since this is not a tied-initiative situation, if any attack you and you kill them first, they do not get their attack.

The Giant Island Rat Attack: Rounds 1 & 2

~ The remaining horde of giant rats not scorched in place by the wall of fire swarm around the sides and rush towards those waiting on the beach. More ranged magic and missile weapons are already flying through the air from the ship...

A perfectly-placed fireball explodes on the ones coming around the north side of the wall. Burned sand and dead giant rats go flying. A charge of lightning-like energy blasts into those coming around the south side and begins spreading out amongst others to cook them in place. Arrows from Caelvanna, Griffo, Thalion and Sorel pick off ones that somehow skirt the magical death. Crossbow bolts from Troc, Arak and Bradley also fly true and impale their respective targets. Although the counter response is beyond impressive and so far 100% lethal, the venomous island vermin seem undeterred and unnaturally determined.

A third wave of over-sized rodents surge past their dead mates and charge towards those on the beach. Emm begins casting a spell as Zimba, Cutler, Farlon, Bogdan and Ulrich hold the line. There is no sign of Gentleman Billy anywhere. Up on the ship, Lauranna draws daggers and bolts from her covered position for the cargo nets with the intent of departing the Seahawk and trying to flank the familiar glowing red eyes...

Just before the giant rats come into melee range more arrows from the specialized archers on the ship streak through the cool night air inside the bubble and impale three more. Cutler is already throwing daggers with the same effortless speed and precision that he chops up ingredients for the daily meals. The remaining beach fighters and their lone cleric companion swing their respective steel: Zimba, Farlon and Bogdan all connecting with their ever-sharp blades but Ulrich missing the mark with his mace.

But before the martial dance of death can truly begin in earnest, the druidess finishes casting her speak with animals spell. The entire encroaching swarm of bloodthirsty giant rats, as well as those just engaged, suddenly check up as she begins communicating with them and magically ceases their attacks on her fellow beach-goers. Further ranged magic and missile fire from the ship stops for the time being. Emm starts moving towards the northern treeline of the cove in the direction of where she saw the glowing red eyes, commanding the large rodents to move out of her way after instigating them to depart the area.

The giant island rats pause for the briefest of moments as if unsure of what to do, before realizing they must capitulate. To the utter delight of the ship and cove defenders, the giant rats quickly turn and run away with reckless abandon! Some run straight away through the transparent bubble but most go back the way they came.

After the main body of verminous masses have departed, the party discovers that a half dozen have not only remained but continue to advance. These look somewhat similar to the others but are more greyish-white in color and appear to be missing their eyes and pieces of skin here and there, revealing bones. Ulrich's clerical senses tingle with danger as he and the others immediately realize these particular island rodents are in fact the living dead! They snap their dirty teeth in animated anticipation as they close on the beach-goers...

*** Need a d6 initiative roll for the party & any attack rolls for Round 3, please! ***

Opponents Killed/Incapacitated
Horde of Giant Rats: 61 (Wall of Fire: 23, Fireball: 9, Chain* Lightning: 11, Flight Arrows: 8, Crossbow bolts: 2, Thrown/Melee weapons: 8 )
6 Undead Giant Rats: 0
Red-eyed Creature: ??

Party Positioning/Status
Bogdan: uninjured; on the beach
Caelvanna: uninjured; up on forecastle deck
Emm: uninjured; on the beach within intended range of the north treeline
Lauranna: uninjured; swimming around the stern of the Seahawk to try and flank the eyes!
Ulrich: uninjured; on the beach, moving after Emm

OOC: ok gang, we'll considered that all the action above as Rounds 1 & 2. You were not surprised and those on the beach had just engaged the initial wave before Emm cast her spell at the end of Rd 1, stopping their attacks and giving them instructions. The remaining normal giant rats were then dispersed and that's when you saw the 6 undead giant rats for the first time. They were moving forward behind the initial wave of normal giant rats. So instead of trying to call in 1a & 1b, we'll just call that Rounds 1 & 2 and the initiative roll & DAs/attacks will be for Round 3.

POP1: If the party wins initiative, the specialized archers should be able to get a single shot off before they engage melee with those on the beach. Any missile fire directed at them after they become engaged could hit a friendly! Melee will be engaged within 2 segments of the undead rats' rolled initiative.

POP2: as per my & SL's last posts, Ulrich would have given every party member a vial of holy water before the last action post. Please note that on your character sheets and I'll edit the previous action post to reflect this. Party positioning & TOD updated.

Initiative [1d6] = 5

Bog squares off against one of the undead rats coming his way and attempts to kill it... again.

To Hit, Longsword [1d20+3] = 1+3 = 4

For years now, this dice roller has bit its thumb at me... *grumble* *grumble*

Ulrich stows his mace, pulling out his holy symbol.

"Begone, foul creatures, in the name of the Dwarf Father!" he shouts.

Turn Undead [1d20] = 15

Knowing there's only a fleeting moment before the rats will engage with those on foot prepared for melee, Caelvanna rushes to launch one final missile. Displeased with her effort, she spits and curses while she begins to seek out other enemies that might be potential ranged targets.

Once within range, Emm summons a blessing upon the vegetation amidst the trail surrounding the pair of glowing red eyes.

The Giant Undead Island Rat Attack: Round 3

Initiative
Party: 5
Undead Giant Rats: 4

~ The now clearly-identified, animated-dead giant rats move towards the beach-goer friends with a mechanical, hungry-to-feed-on-the-living gait. More ranged magic and missile fire is already flying through the early morning air within the magic bubble again...

Another fireball explodes on the undead giant rat furthest to the left (north). Burned sand and the large, dead-again rodent go flying. Another charge of the lightning-like magical energy blasts into the one furthest to the right (south), re-killing and pretty much vaporizing it on the spot. A last hurried specialist arrow from Caelvanna goes wide but both Griffo and Sorel's find their respective marks. Regardless of the well-placed shots, both undead giant rats continue on with flight arrows sticking out of and through them.

Zimba, Cutler, Farlon and Bogdan hold the line and stand their sandy ground, prepared to apply cold, sharp steel to the imminent undead encounter. There's still no sign of Gentleman Billy anywhere. Ulrich immediately recognizes the threat. He lets his mace fall on its reinforced leather strap around his gauntlet and reaches for the holy symbol hanging conveniently on a hardened chain necklace about his neck. Just before the giant undead vermin arrive in held weapon's range, the young cleric steps forward holding up his holy symbol and attempts to Turn Undead. "Begone, foul creatures, in the name of the Dwarf Father!"

Already trained to priest-level, Ulrich focuses the divine power of Moradin on the remaining four undead giant island rats. It slams into and freezes them for naught more than a fleeting segment before they snap their animated jaws in frustration and begin backing away slowly. The fact that they do not flee outright tells Ulrich that they are being compelled to attack by some evil power or spell. The four readied, waiting fighters find it hard to resist attacking* here, as do the specialist archers back on the ship**, once the turned undead giant rats move away from the friendly-fire zone that is...

Whilst the priest of the Dwarf All-Father is in the process of successfully turning the remaining compelled undead rodents, Emm targets the last place she saw the glowing red eyes, over in the thick brush by the northern trail head, and casts her entangle spell. The spell goes off but the druidess realizes the magic appears to have difficulty passing through the nearly transparent wall of the protective bubble. It does get through and lands where she intended it to but to what effect she cannot be certain...

Meanwhile, having already departed the safety of the Seahawk and looking for payback after seeing and recognizing those glowing red-eyes, Lauranna continues her flanking maneuver. Knowing she can't go around the eastern edge of the cove where the others are battling the rodent incursion, she departs the docks below the cargo net and sprints back west past the stern of the crippled eastern warship. The magic-user/thief quickly takes off her pack with her coveted spell book inside and belt pouch of components so they don't get wet, and enters the cold sea water of the shallow cove. Using a modified side stroke whilst holding them above the surface, she's able to make it across the short watery distance to the north shore.
Action continues to Lauranna's right as she climbs out of the water on the beach, reequips her pouch and pack and then sprints towards the northern treeline. When she passes through the wall of the magical protection bubble it's like a slap in the face and a kick in the stomach all in one. The specially-designed charm bracelet on her wrist that Billy handed out becomes painfully hot in response, and seems to somehow rebuff most of the harshness of the powerful spell's disorienting effects. Thankfully, she barely stumbles and makes it to the floral cover of dark northern treeline...

~ Further east of the dripping wet, ambitious young would-be High elf avenger by nearly one hundred and fifty feet, just within the thick flora of the treeline beyond the northern trail head, the glowing red eyes avert their attention from the druidess and look to their right (west) before they disappear from sight...

Actions?

Questions?

***************************************************

*** Need a d6 initiative roll for the party, Declared Actions & attack rolls for Round 4, please! ***

Opponents Killed/Incapacitated
Horde of Giant Rats: 61 (Wall of Fire: 23, Fireball: 9, Chain* Lightning: 11, Flight Arrows: 8, Crossbow bolts: 2, Thrown/Melee weapons: 8 )
6 Undead Giant Rats: 4 turned & backing away from those on the beach; 2 dead, 2 injured
Red-eyed Creature: disappeared!

Party Positioning/Status
Bogdan: uninjured; on the beach and ready to fight!*
Caelvanna: uninjured; up on forecastle deck looking for more targets!**
Emm: uninjured; cast a spell on the area of the north treeline around the eyes! (distance w/in 80')
Lauranna: uninjured; at northern treeline behind ship preparing to move towards the eyes! (distance @ 150')
Ulrich: uninjured; turned the giant undead rats on the beach

* ~ Zimba, Cutler & Farlon hold their Round 3 attacks against the turned undead giant rats but Bogdan can choose to either take his already rolled for attacks or hold as well.

** ~ Caelvanna could also take a parting bow shot at one of the undead rats after Ulrich turns them, once the back up and away from near melee range her friends.

POP: any attacks made on the turned undead giant rats, attempts to impede their retreat or merely getting within melee range will break the effects of the divine magical compulsion to flee and allow them to attack!

OOC: So Bog & Caelvanna can choose to make further attacks on the T.U.G.R.s in Round 3, if they so wish, or can choose to hold their action until Round 4.
Added further clarification & details to the previous action post.
