Assignment One: Bug Hunt

Angela pulls a scroll off of her table of artifacts and hands it to Thorgrim. "You, master dwarf, are the first off the Amber Lynn to ask for a map. Good for you. In exchange for your attention to detail, I offer you 2 marker coins.
She unrolls the scroll revealing to coin shaped items. These are one shot items. The one marked with the bullseye will magically mark an area as a destination. The one marked with a portal will teleport you and anyone in contact with you to the marker. I've waited 2 months to give these out. Many have been less thorough than you. "

The company finishes last minute preparations and meet at the northern gate of the city where a two horse team is attached to a merchant wagon waiting to depart.
The shipment is escorted by two human guards and an officer named Loric, who is on horseback.
The going is not swift as the road, while flattened, is not paved and still a bit rough.
"The wet climate keeps the road rutty and somewhat slick at times." says Loric. "But it is patrolled and the trip should be somewhat uneventful."
His prediction rings true as you travel several days with only the mosquitoes to keep you company. You travel from sun up to sun down with only a few small breaks in between. At sunset you park om the side of the road, at obviously well used campsites, and see at least 2 other towns guards on horseback, patrolling the roads and delivering messages, each day.



After several days of travel, the forest becomes jungle. With trees and shrubs growing more dense the further you go north.
At long last you cross a well made wooden bridge and the wagon turns off towards a wooden post walled village.



Loric brings his horse behind to where you follow and addresses the group.
"This is Midway. It's a rough little place, and you're not likely to find goods or services for a fair rate, but you are welcome to enter, of course, at any time. Or you can go east along that rough old path to your own destination. I've traveled this road a dozen times." he says looking down the path you must take into the woods. "It doesnt settle well with me there is a ruin within a couple days march of here that's hazardous. I wish you the best of luck."

Varrick crosses the road into the treeline where the path veers east into the jungle by a stream. Pointing the way to the ruin.

Being that this is the first time Malfiac has ever stepped foot in a jungle enviroment, he is overly alert at best (like a kid learning how to drive a car for the first time). The myriad of noises that make up the background of this place drums against his ears, birds, animals, the occasional rustling of tall plants and trees, even the splashing of water seems to catch him by surprise at times. A mixture of awe and fear comes over him, but he does not let the fear show, or tries to at least. He looks towards Varrick, their guide for this area, and asks him about the dangers ahead.

"You've made mention of big nasty bugs, but are there any other dangers present in this jungle environment that we need to be cautious about, say.... other wildlife?"

"Bugs, just what I needed!" Well, I am not sure about you guys but before this dwarf heads out bug stomping I am headed to town for some food and to wash up a bit. Than before nightfall, if you all want to, we can scout around some. Heck, maybe even kill some of those large bugs that are mentioned."

"A little food and rest will do wonders and help us prepare for the work ahead."

"I'm with Rafo." Caltus says "Would be a shame to not at least look upon this town while we're here at its gates!"

It is early afternoon by the sun, and Angela reported it would take a couple days to reach the ruin.
During the travel to Midway the wagon supplied most of the rations for the journey but each of you used 3 days worth of your own rations as well.
The jungles around you have been teaming with wildlife so hunting may also provide sustenance If anyone makes a Traps, Knowledge(wilderness), or a Tracking roll successfuly during the journey.
You may also go into Midway for supplies.
You do notice that you don't feel fully rested unless you consume a days worth of rations every day before resting.

Walking up to a dark haired lady, Rafo greets her with a smile. "Greetings, my name is Rafo. I have been hired to help map out the surrounding areas and clean up some the nasty creatures that plague this village." After placing down his javelin and gathering coins from his belt pouch he places them onto a wooden table before him. "This is all I have, really! My life savings...15 silver! I am in need of some tonic or something similar so as to help me get better if I get injured somehow. Might you have such items? Maybe we could work out a deal? I could gather some of the materials you need. In return you can supply me with my needed items? What you say?"

"By the way, I will need them soon. Heading toward some ruins to clear out some 'bugs' tomorrow morning."

The woman looks to you and raises an eyebrow. "I have many curative elixirs and tonics." she tells the dawrf. "But they are expensive to make, materials take time to gather. Most, I could not sell for less than 40 silver. However," she says gathering a small ceramic jar. "I do have a salve I give to the temple now and then, my offerings to the priest of Apollo, that will ease minor wounds. I can sell it for 15 silver, I suppose. But I would recommend getting your resources in order if adventuring in these jungles. The stronger potions will probably be needed." The salve will heal 1 HP with an hour of rest. I updated her list

Oh! An' sum big bird thangs, But you dun' gotta worry bout them too much, 'eys mostly keep to da middle Jungle area." Varrick then heads into Midway with the rest of the group and heads over to "Midways Supplies", "'ey Robin! Long time no see eh? Ya got anymore 'o dem rations?"

The homely looking woman smiles, missing teeth from rot. "Ello, mister....Varrick, was it?
Still keepin da lasses blushin is ya? Aye, I gots some trail stuff fer ya. 3 bronze per day still. How longya wanderin fer this time?"

"Hahahaha Well den ain't 'at tha question yeh? I see maself travlin till a' die but I only be needin a few days o' rations from ya."

I'll take three days so I don't have to modify my inventory list
changing currency now.

Sorry I didn't have Midway 100% ready. I figured everyone was sick to death of being in town and definitely NOT enter Midway Inn just yet.

Malfiac will be waiting outside Midway, as he is definitely tired of shopping. He has his supplies and now he waits for the group. While watching the jungle from where he is standing, Malfiac imagines all sort of beasts that can be found in there. Not having ever seen any for himself all these years, all he has to go off of is the descriptions made by others and his wild imagination...

Varrick makes his way towards the gate leading out of town until he comes across the fishmonger, he purchases a fishing rod, bait, tackle, and stringer. Put the items in his pack and hooking the rod to the side of his pack he makes his way out of town and see Malfiac as he seems to be waiting for the rest of the group. Varrick walks up to Malfiac, "Ya seem ta be all ready yeh? Ready ta git yaself in sum bug guts eh? Hahaha"

Malfiac's face starts to wrinkle up a bit upon the mentioning of bug guts. "Honestly, if I have to see any bug guts, I'd rather it be from the outside, not inside...." After drifting off in a moment of though, his eyes widen as he quickly looks back at Varrick and tries to confirm something with him. "Is it true that they all have big pincers and uhh... how fast do they move?" He puts his face into his hand as if he just started to realize what he got himself into. "Wait, wait... uhh, before you answer any of that, how big are these things exactly?" Poor Malfiac is starting to show some fear now, there is no hiding it.

"Bugs? HA! It's even more dangerous than it looks. " says one of the guards to Malfiac by the gate. "A lotta folk go out there and don't come back." he places the point of his halberd in the soil and leans on the pole. "Used ta be, us who guard these towns hated folk like you. Comin here and gettin rich on this unlooted ruin."
He spits and kicks over a moss covered rock. "Now we just pity ya. I may stand here and rust me armor with sweat in this godsforsaken heat, but I'll, more like than not, getta pitcher a wine and some tart on me lap in a few hours. You? You'll be dead. "

Varrick looks to the guard as he speaks before looking at Malfiac, his smile still present. "Well, that be 'bout it yeh, ya good now or ya still wan' me ta anser 'bout ya bugs? Hahahha"

Malfiac then looks to the ground and coughs a bit as mutters something about being careful. He remains silent afterwards as he gets the hint. Nodding to the guard before he turns away, Malfiac at least acknowledges the man's experience here, even if it is guard duty.
