The adventurers note that each beetle wears a small purse around their abdomen, from which the jingling of coins and gems can be heard . . .

Fifthmonth, Fourthday
The Southbound Party

The adventurers swing wide, avoiding the beetles, and travel on, eventually reaching Hex 237.120 and the scene of the party's triumph over the water demon. The pool is much diminished since the adventurers cleared much of the collapsed bridge, and the water flows swift and clear. The sun is beginning to set and time to make camp approaches rapidly.

The result was "Hostile, may attack", so even if y'all lose initiative you can still get away without incident.
Fifthmonth, Fourthday

With a broad gesture the innkeeper motions her willingness to let Feargus and Mardan perform. The obese man is nowhere to be seen. "I've got a letter for Gardo," she says, reaching behind the bar.

Gardo

Gardo steps up to take the letter. "My thanks. Mariusz, can you pay* her for the trouble then step over here so we can figure this thing out?" Once over to the side away from others, Gardo and Mariusz inspect the missive.

The letter reads:
My dearest Gardo, I do not know when you will return to Kimrid, or even if you will, but I am writing this letter in the hopes that you will get it. The day after you left I received a missive from the priests, telling my the Mnencir had seen fit to lift the curse under which I have labored for so long. It is true! I broke my fast that morning, and for the first time in months food did not tast like ash in my mouth! I am leaving Kimrid on the morn, sailing west on the Gere to my mines. I have enclosed this for you, should you return to Kimrid to claim it. If you should find yourself in Firuzdul look me up, and I will treat you like a king. The map leads to a mine that I discovered during my research. It is, as far as I know, undiscovered and untapped, and is what we in the business call a "century mine", one that will yield ore for decades, if not longer. The deed is enclosed, as well, not that it means much.

-Vilgrim Das
There is indeed a deed, on ancient, yellowed parchment, signed by the Scarlet Prince and dated in the middle of the last Apex. The map leads to a location in Hex 217.111.

Evening

Once a camp is established both Telemachus and Newton spend time studying; Telemachus the scroll that was just found, and Newton the journal that he had purchased from Torthuk Three-toed. The pair determine the following:

*The scroll recovered from the troll's lair seems to be a treasure map. It takes him a bit of time, but he finally is able to decipher the smudged ink. Kimrid is labeled to the north, and the road on which they travel is visible. It indicates a village to the east, southeast of Kimrid, and dotted line running west to an "X". The adventurers saw no evidence of a road or trail, so either the map is old, or it just indicates the straightest route. The "X" is called out as being "The Hidden Treasure of the Bandit Queen Datziznaid".

Newton has by now completed reading the journal he purchased from Torthuk. It details the travels of one Rijsan Kiji, a trader and, according to the author (assumed to be Kiji) adventurer and bon vivant of some renown. The journal covers the span of about six months, and seems to have been written during the last Apex, so perhaps one hundred and fifty years previous. It details his journeys and exploits in an area he calls the Tyrellian Scrublands, a rolling savannah of hills and copses of acacias, dotted by the ruins of what he refers to as the jubati. A broad map is provided, along with several points of interest: dungeons that he had neither the interest or wherewithal to delve, ruined cities he claimed to be inhabited by ghouls or demons, and so forth. But there were riches to be had, and it seems like at one point the river that split the Scrublands led to the wealthy cities of the Violet Principality. Curiously, Kiji several times mentions encounters with a race of nomadic deer-folk.

Telemachus

The mage shows the map to his companions.

"Bandit Queen's hidden treasure sounds promising. We should check this out once we're done done south and can return to Kimrid."

"Sounds like it's definitely worth a look. It's going to be a while before we get back north, though"

He gives the group a summary of the journal

"Maybe if we decide to travel further afield it's worth a look, particularly if there might be some of Notai's people there"

Notai

Her eyes narrow at the scout's final statement. She stares at him for a moment or two then softens slightly. "Unknowing you may be as Gardo speaks little of things. I shall give you understanding."

"To the north, the boundaries you men claim to have do not exist there. My people and the wind were sisters and moved where we pleased across the lands. We saw remains of great cities and other things, staying to the edges. The one time our chief, my father, decided to listen to a man was the end for my people. Isendan was the place we went and went into. I cannot remember all that happened but know that I am all that remains of my tribe, there are no others."

"If you want to find others like myself, there is word of a tribe to the south of where I met your group. My steps were certain towards others like me until Gardo spoke." She softens a bit more. "Curious that a human would change my mind so, even as I swore I would not be the same as my father. Something about Gardo is hard to resist."

"Now, happenings near me may draw me back to a place I fled, fled from horrors that I wish to forget. The three women in Kimrid speak of Isenden and now that book speas of the same area. Some time ago I would have said no to returning, now it is unclear. Gardo made no claim to keep me, I am still free. His offer was for me to travel alongside him until my skills were enough to make a journey south less taxing. When that time comes, Gardo and I will decide."

"So, if you wish to travel north, that is upon you. Gardo's thoughts will be heard by you and you will hear his. After that, it is unknown."

"Notai, I am sorry, I didn't mean to cause you distress. I am sorry for your tribe. My understanding of the geography of the north is poor. I didn't realise that the places written in the journal were of Isenden. Although your tribe is no more I hoped it might help you find other tribes of the deer-folk.

Notai is, in fact, somewhat familiar with the Tyrellian Scrublands, although her people know it as the Vlaktes. It was at the eastern edge of her tribes' range; they spent the winters there, after a summer of leading explorers to Isendan, and traded with the merchants that set up shop outside of a great ruined city at the confluence of two rivers. She knows that the Scrublands are, in fact, filled with ruins and ancient, buried secrets, and that most folk -- her tribe included -- stuck to a narrow band that followed the rivers, seldom venturing out into the rolling hills of the Vlaktes. Isendan is far to the west of the Scrublands.

"Distress over facts is not needed. You had no idea. Your mind and my mind are two different worlds. Only when we share knowledge can we become one world. Let me see the map and bring all of us into the same world."

After conveying her knowledge, Notai turns to Wulfka. "I think we should talk with Gardo, help him understand how to better bring these worlds together, yes? At least have Mariusz kick him and take him to task. He is the wiser of the two."

Gardo

After reading the letter, he pushes it back to Mariusz. "Keep that somewhere very safe."

He steps to Feargus. "Hey, I was hoping to meet with the fat man but he already left town. Did leave a nice letter that said where he was going to. If we go there, he'll treat me right and I'll make sure the rest of us are taken care of as well. So, my other thought was to find that woman rep for the Prince, the one we escorted? I figured we should tell her about that other town we found southwest of here since she is all about trade and those people are trying to not be under the influence of this place, know what I mean? How about we try to find her before you start performing, eh? We can leave in the morning or wait a day extra if it takes a bit to find her."

Late in the evening of Fifthmonth, Fourthday, Gardo is sitting with his ale and listening to Feargus. A cold chill suddenly runs down his spine and he sits straight up, a bead of sweat appears on his forehead. He looks to Mariusz. "I don't know what but I suddenly got a bad feeling. Something's coming for me, I'm sure of it."

It's pretty easy to track down Kirra Lec. She's still in the same inn, working out of her private room. Papers are strewn everywhere. "Welcome!" she says, "I had you all had left, and didn't expect to see you back so soon. Did you run into trouble and have to turn back?"

Gardo

Gardo greets her with a polite bow. "Good day to you, Kirra Lec. No, we did not have any issues. We had a task to complete for the Baron of the Ironskin folk and did so. I still had some business here with a man that I wanted to conclude so I and a few others came back while the rest moved ahead to the barony. It would take more than those giants we fought to stop me and the others from going where we wanted. In fact, we encountered a group of trolls that were not too far away from the road between here and the Scarlet Principality. We took care of it, you know it's what we do."

"Anyhows, I thought it would be good to let you know that we did encounter another town southwest of here, on our way to deal with the task for the Baron and all. They are a people that lived in this area but moved further away to escape some of the.... thoughts of the current rulers of Kimrid, I guess? Anyhow, my old boss always said to be on the lookout for those people who didn't want to.... do things by other's rules, they could be profitable for business. So, I said to myself and Mariusz there, we should tell Kirra Lec about them. Also, that tower that we passed on the way here? We cleared out the spiders and undead orcs if you had not heard, so it's safe for you to use it as a stopping point. Well, at least it was when we left it."

"I guess that's really it. We are heading back towards the Principalities tomorrow or so, we'll try to make sure the road is cleared out along the way as well. Think we said we were going to deal with that one village with those weird shadowy things on the way back so you can check and see if it's safe or not on your way back. Not sure I want to sleep in a place like that but we're not talking about me but others so that's that."

"Umm.. So, sounds good? Oh, you should definitely come by and hear ol' Feargus at the bar tonight. He's going to be singing about my great exploits and the other things the group has done. You'd really like it. The young kid over there is quite good as well, might make some lord or lady a good minstrel one day."

Kirra Lec

Lec's mouth twists upwards in a smile. "I will be sure to come down and listen to the performance, and thank you for advice. I have been sequestered for far too long in here, but diplomacy takes time, and my new office is being fixed up. I expect to return to Alice within the the month, though, and will leave word for you should I need anything."
Let me know if anyone wants to add anything or if I can move on to nextday. If Feargus wants to post something about performing that would be great; otherwise I'll tackle it in the next IC post.

Feargus
"Mardan Cy, are you ready? Last night in town I think." The young lad begins softly playing his flute, slowly gaining volume as the crowd quiets down. Feargus begins tapping on the table top with his hands, providing an element of rhythm to the song. He begins weaving in verses recounting the party's latest adventures including an extended version of the story of the tower south of town and Zellar's prowess in particular highlighting the dervish's ties to Kimrid. He intentionally leaves out all mention of the town the party passed on the way to the tomb.

He finishes with a fast paced piece about a warrior named Goshawk, made into a larger than life superhero. After he finishes, he answers Mardan's questioning look saying, "I'm curious to see where this goes. It's possible, albeit not likely that Goshawk is met in town when he visits as some kind of a hero." He laughs as he retires to bed.

The next day, he's ready to ride south.
