General Character Creation

#1 Post by rredmond »

Going to put stuff germane to both parties in this thread.

The Campaign ID for the US Dice Roller is: 97.
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Anyone who is on the waiting list can use this forum to work on and post characters. It would be helpful if you are ready to go when it's your turn at bat. :D

Ha, beat me to it! (That was my question)

Bill/Ron: so the waiting list will be for both parties then?
Yosef Travathas: High Elf Fighter4/Magic-User3 (rredmond's Pacesetter Games "Legacy of the Unknown" OSRIC Playtest)
Brok Sterling: Human Assassin3 (ToniXX's Incursion into Newiron OSRIC Playtest)
Tanik Tremwoodak: Dwarf Cleric3 (Dave's 1e Skype Game)

DM: home-brew OSRIC "A New Hope to the West" campaign

Fireball... good!!

"What's it gonna take?"
"Everything."

I figure that's fair. What if one fares better than the other.

What's the decision on the magic item bundles, Ron and Bill?

How about making up something like 40 "bundles" - 10 each labeled "Cleric", "Fighter", "Magic User", and "Thief" - and then you get to pick one bundle. Blind. Without knowing the contents. Seems to be the only fair way to do it.

So if you have a dual-class character, you have a better choice, but perhaps might not get something useful to the other class.

Or... just start doing random dice rolls and doling them out to people?

Ron and I were talking about it this morning. We like your idea better than what we had planned so I'll have the packets prepared and posted tonight. :D

As a question, should the players who are in one of the parties go ahead and roll up backup characters?

Cripes! You think the death tool will be so great and swift we will need replacements for the replacements that will replace us already?

It IS the tomb of Horrors

That and I am somewhat unclear, if a PC dies, is it replaced by someone on the waiting list, or by another PC by the player who lost a character.

Traditionally, if there is a waiting list, a death of a party member means the next person on the waiting list gets first opportunity to fill the spot. If the person whose character just died wants back in the game, then their name goes to the bottom of the waiting list.

Sounds fair enough, that is what I thought :)

Off to tell my PC that she needs to stay alive!

Sorry if it wasn't clear, but Al has the right of it.

Ok real life has reared it's ugly head so I don't think I'll get the Magic Items done tonight. I'll do my best to finish for tomorrow.

So I know the goal has been to keep things balanced in the party so as a member of the Waiting List Militia do I need to make multiples or is it okay if I just roll through with my first choice?

I mention this because being rusty with the older editions it's going to take me some time to make up a 600,000 xp character.

No requirement to roll multiple PCs. Do whatever works for you dude. :)

So we're picking what is "behind door number 3" without knowing what is in it?

Also, for multicast characters we only get item for a single class?
