Joker
Joker puts a square of blue tape on the last of the cables, indicating that it's been checked. He sits back and sips his industrial-strength coffee.
Suddenly, he pauses and his eyes go blank. (( In college, his roommate used to call this his "Turkish Tesla" look, because he always seemed to come up with his most daring ideas during one of these blank-eyed times.))
He hurried to the library and pulled out a couple of his referrence books, then began jotting and reading.
Mind roll for the "temporary holding" idea.
[5d6] = 18 ghost [1d6] = 6

sorry I missed that previous post by you, Bob. I will be making a full post in a few minutes but to let you know now, you rolled very well, so we will see what wacky invention the Turkish Tesla just had a Eureka moment on!

The Turkish Tesla is in the basement working hard on mad scientist machinery and he traces every wire on the Containment unit, likely curing internally as he sees the sloppy rushed work that the installers did. No consideration or attempt for tidiness at all. There are two more loose connections that he finds, but the biggest problem is there are a couple of wire types, that though subtle to the usual technician, Joker has memorized this system until he knows it by heart. Two major connections have the wrong wires, one is inadequate to hold the load put on it on a daily basis once more than a few ghosts are cycling through the system, and could cause a breach point during the transfer from trap to the unit. The one it is switched with is the proper wire, but it has too much resistance between the R-35 Filling Module and the Egon Mark 5 Cycling Synthesizer. This is causing the particle flow to have a choke point that in time could cause a meltdown in the overloaded in the Filling Module. This system is officially dangerous on a near Chilnoble level.
Luckily, if done quickly, the unit doesn't even need to be shut down, just temporarily put in idle, freezing the internal flows and limiting the overall function. Switch them out, fire it back up to normal, and suddenly the distinct extra hum no one never noticed before until it was gone Fire Station wide is now gone. The readout on the monitor beeps and it is now running at peak efficiency.
Then it hits him... Transfering the ghost into the unit is less like treating energy as static electricity and more like maintaining a directional flow of fluids. If someone treated the energy like water tension and applied the correct flow both in the unit while tuning into the individual signature of a previously captured ghost, you could later their flow int he unit and separate them out of the current and into a new... reservoir? It could work... It should work! You had to think of it more like a water pump that worked like a magnet instead of polarity! This could work! Ideas are quickly forming into equations and as Joker looks over the individual parts of the unit itself he can easily think of mostly everyday parts from other objects that, if put together correctly, could make this work.
Etta finds herself nominated to be the one to talk to Frank, Jr.
Mac suddenly remembers that his own phone is still out by the Cavanaugh Mound where the snakes are likely using all his data and making international calls.
Julia has found boots at a discount to protect the Ghostbusters in tonight's job, and is holding the phone out for someone to take.

Roy finishes his coffee and donut then heads down to see how Joker is doing. Reaching the containment area he says "Hey need a hand with anything Joker? Figured I could do something useful other than drink coffee and eat donuts today." he jokes.

Etta swallows her oatmeal, and adopts her "oh, this is serious" posture, and takes the phone. In her smoothest, most quietly conciliatory voice, she says, "Hello, Mr. Henry. This is Doctor Conklin. What can I do for you?"
Re: The Firehouse. Home sweet home.
Frank there is a brief pause before a slightly hoarse voice rumbled into the phone. I... *long pause then a sigh* thank you for doing what you could with everything last night. Coroner's said his heart just kinda gave out. He had a bad one. Heck, I do too. So I can't hold it against you.
That video and the cameras... I just can't get past it. You realize I hadn't seen him smile like that in decades? Dont suppose I know why I am saying this to you or what it is I'm saying... but... I'm not holding a grudge or anything. I think you did right by us and the old man, you know?

Etta: "It means a lot to hear you say that. I don't think there are words to express how sorry we all feel over your loss, and I wish I'd had a chance to know your father better during his life. He was an irascible old coot, but at the end he showed that there was a lot of love and courage in his heart."
After expressing her condolences and getting off the phone, Etta texts her daughter and places an order of flowers to be sent to Frank's family with an appropriate card.
Looking a little emotional, Etta slumps into a chair and takes a donut. "Julia, sit on the invoice for a couple more days, but send it out before the funeral."

Joker
Joker looks up from his notes, slightly wild-eyed. At first, he doesn't seem to recognize Roy, but then he nods and smiles.
Definitely, my friend. First, turn off my music- we need to hear.
Activate a Trap, and measure the current flow between terminal A-7 and A-9.
Confirm that the power source is producing 95 watts at 12 amps....
Joker has several other measurements to be taken and verified. It quickly evolves into Joker asking for technical data and Roy gettting that data. Once he's gotten the information he needs, he begins sketching a wiring diagram and the pair begins collecting the material to build a prototype.

Roy does as asked shakes his head "I was going to leave the music on but sure." he cuts off the music and grabs a trap activates it and measures the current between A-7 and A-9 and informs what the read out is to Joker.

Just a short time after the Phone call from Frank Henry, Jr. a Black Nissan pulls up and parks on the street outside the front door of 420 Towson Ave. Gabby helps Jason up out of the car and to the front door where Julia is waiting to help while Gabby pulls around to the parking lot. Jason comes from here:

Roy and Joker are putting their heads together in the basement and things are coming along nicely as they begin figuring out how to make Joker's new gadget for removing a specific ghost from the containment unit without posing a danger of letting them all out of there being a breach. I'm going to say both of you roll a D100 and we will take the average of both rolls and that is how many parts you will need to construct the device.
Mac & Etta are wanting to do some research so are probably in the library looking over notes. Anything in specific you were looking for?

Re: The Firehouse. Home sweet home.
Etta had been upset after the phone call with Frank Henry, because, oddly, she felt a little jealous of him. Frank knew his father was passing on with a sense of fulfillment. She was confident that, whatever the mystery that lay past the existence of ghosts, her departed husband was somewhere good, but what she wouldn't give to have actual evidence of it! But, she chides herself, that is small and petty. She has more proof than most that there is something after this life, and she should be content with that.
Jason arrives back at the firehouse just in time to shake her out of her ruminations. "Jason! Oh, it does my heart good to see you up on your feet! And Miss Pendelton, it is a pleasure to see you again."
Also, how to avoid snakebites.

Etta is looking for for the history of the Mound, the culture of Native tribes from the area associated with the Mound, and rituals and beliefs relating to the new moon, especially as it might correlate with the Mound.Mac & Etta are wanting to do some research so are probably in the library looking over notes. Jason accepts his help and teases Julia on the way in, It will take a little bit more than eight snake bites to get rid of me Ms. Dunst with a laugh,no place like home.
Thank you mam, I am glad to be back. Just gotta keep light on my feet for a while but thats ok. I am gonna be in the books for a while, you have any good sources on near death experiences? He follows her to presumably
he library and has a seat at one of the tables. What a long strange trip the whole thing was. But, he gets more serious I saw the news, y'all doing ok? Sorry I wasn't out there to help.

Re: The Firehouse. Home sweet home.
Etta, happy to have something new to think about, takes Jason's arm and heads to the library. "I think we'll be fine. We had a civilian die on the scene of our investigation last night. It was very sad, and caused an uproar, but, barring an public relations disasters, we'll come out in the clear. Oh! And we got some very good recordings of a crossing-over! A full auto-motivated discorporation of not one, but two spectral entities! We'll want to share that with the main research team back at GBI.
"Near-death experiences? Oh, honey, was it as bad as that? We... let's see, yes, we have some information on that, although, obviously, we have a lot more on post-death. Now tell me all about it."

Etta Speaking of that video and other information from last night's job, what have you released on screecher?
She is easily able to find that the two main offshoots of this area were the Spiro and the Caddo who were part of the Mississippian culture, dating back all the way to the Pre-Columbian Mayan era. They were largely agricultural growing corn, beans, and squash. They were also hunters. The Caddo were more localized to the immediate area though there is a Spiro mound site not far over the Oklahoma border from here. The Caddo being the more warlike of the two, and a handful of them still live locally as well.Etta wrote:Researching Mounds Indian Culture of the area.

Re: The Firehouse. Home sweet home.
I never had a set list, but they were mostly rare vintages if not rare information. There are big ones Tobans guide, Spates Catalog of Nameless horrors, Roylance Guide to Sects and Secret societies. But most its a GM grab bag of interesting plot hooks
As Gabby has tracked him down Jason tries his best to charm her out of being upset.I am resting he says as he picks up a tweed covered book and wiggles it in the air. Nothing more relaxing that reading old books. He softens his act, Do you really think between Etta and Julia I am going to get anything as stressful as a robocall? And I promise I wont even lift the heavy books. But I gotta try to find out as much as I can so we know what we are up against. He looks to Etta, She doesn't know a lot of the details but she may have gotten the rough overview of you-know-what. But I trust her, saw her lay a psychic slap down on a class five focused nonterminating psychopomp named Jack and man he did not like it. he says chucking to himself, Which is kinda why I wanted to look into the whole near death experience thing, I don't really have a good handle on what I went through in there and I dont know if that was just Jack or what. He reaches to his desk for his tablet and begins typing away. But to easy your mind, he turns the tablet to face Gabby showing a book list on relaxation, meditation, real zen hippy stuff. These will be the first things I read.
And they will be, Jason has a hunch that if he can learn to be calmer and work with self guided hypnosis, meditation, chanting, whatever that works; maybe he can try to actively touch into whatever it was at the hospital. But hes not telling Gabby that.

Re: The Firehouse. Home sweet home.
Etta's head shoots up from her studies. "Wait, you encountered a psychopomp?" Looking to Gabby, she adds, "And you were able to affect its behavior?" Shaking her her head in wonder, she says, "We're going to need a full report on this. I can't wait to read it!"
BP (2) [2d6] = 6; Research [6d6] = 25; Ghost [1d6] = 4
Etta asks one of the younger 'Busters to explain this whole Screecher thing to her again.

Re: The Firehouse. Home sweet home.
Jason nods to Etta Sure did, weird too. He said the only people who normally could see him were the dead, the dying, and the mentally ill. Ill let you be the judge of which category I fit into., he starts browsing through the books on relaxation, I've read about the orginal team sometimes talkimg with ghosts but nothing really like this really so thought I would try to run down some leads. he looks at Gabby who is still watching him like.a hawk, ...for a little bit. Then homemade Pho and rest. Promise.
