Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
The group descends without further incident (checked for Moony both ways) and you move 30 feet east down the hall to the door in the south wall. From this location, you can see that 10 feet further east, there is another hallway going north, and 20 feet further east, there is a door going north and one going south. The eastern hallway then continues at least an additional 10 feet, the limits of your light.
You try the first door in the south wall, and find it stuck. Would you like to try to force it open?

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
What is our marching order? Whoever is in front should peek around the corner of the second north wall and see what's down there. If nothing really interesting or needing our immediate attention, we should check one of those two doors (north or south).

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Having a quick look, the hallway continues north more than 30 feet.
I agree, it seems like we should establish marching order. Until then, I'm assuming you're more-or less in the order you came down in....
In addition to the (stuck) door south, there is the north hallway, then the pair of doors, one north, one south, then the hallway continues east.

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Kohrek presses an ear to the stuck door ...

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Kohrek doesn't hear anything through the door...
Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Kohrek mimes kicking the door in. If no one objects, he gives the door good bash in an attempt to open it.

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Let's try another door first. If we're taking all these precautions to be quiet, it doesn't make sense to abandon them at the first door we encounter.Piper wrote:Kohrek mimes kicking the door in. If no one objects, he gives the door good bash in an attempt to open it.

Nimh
Nimh will signal Kohrek to move to the next door, backing him up when/if he moves.

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Kohrek nods and move with the party to the other doors we've noted.

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
The group moves from the first door 20 feet to the east, passing the corridor to the north. There is a door to the north, and one to the south here. In moving east, your light reveals a bit more of the eastern hallway. You can see that the passage continues east past the limits of your torch. There is a collapsed section of the north wall about 30 feet to the east, revealing an opening north.
Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Carefully, quietly, Kohrek tries the south then the north door to see if either opens easily.

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Kohrek opens the south door without much difficulty. The group's torch light illuminates a swarm of dog-sized giant rats... about a dozen, skittering around the room. Their eyes reflect your torchlight as they begin to advance toward you...
The room they are in is about 20 feet across. You can see a door directly opposite this one.

Those rats aren't going to be able to open the door, so let's close it and check the other one, then decide what we want to do.

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
You close the door quickly, and check out the other door. It also opens fairly easily. Within is a 20x20 room with a dusty table in the center. On the table, you see three skulls.
The rats are scrabbling against the door to the south. If you want to keep them from getting through the door, a spike would probably do the trick...

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Kohrek espies the rats and hastily pulls the door to. He then takes an iron spike from his pack and attempts to wedge it into place without pounding ... does it look like it will hold?

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
After the doors has been dealt with, Kohrek turns to the "skull" room. He approaches the table with the 3 skulls and examines them without touching either the table or skulls. If the skulls appear harmless, he will pick up the middle one and examine it.

As Kohrek moves into the room, Nimh will move into her spot in the 2x2 marching order so that she can back him up and give him light to work with. Whispers "Careful Kohrek."

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Jamming the spike into the door without hammering it doesn't seem as stable as it would if you used a hammer, but that, combined with the likely difficulty rats should have opening the door makes it seem likely that it'll work (say there's an increased chance of the spike "slipping" for doing this, but I'll make the rats roll to try to open it, too)
The skulls appear to have been polished, and they have no dust on them, despite resting on a quite dusty table.

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Is the floor dusty, as well? Are there trails in the dust?

"I think we should search the room, try and stay in pairs. I am with Kohrek."
Nimh proceeds to search for anything out of the ordinary.
