Encumbrance House Rules

We are going to use a simple "slot-based" encumbrance system instead of the default Blueholme system.

Every item above about 4-5 pounds or about 2 feet long is an encumbering item. Some items, especially weapons, large objects like 10 foot poles and sledgehammers, count as more than one item (normal weapons count as 2 items, heavy weapons count as 3 item)

Items can be distributed about the body in different ways before they cause you to become encumbered.

Without becoming encumbered:
Up to 4 items may be placed in the backpack. Items here require 1 round to dig out.
Up to 3 items may be placed on the torso. Items here can be accessed quickly.
Up to 3 items may be placed on the belt. Items here can be accessed quickly.

Halflings may handle one fewer item in each category.
Dwarves may handle one more item in each category.
Strong characters (Str 15+) may handle one more item in each category.

Additional items placed in these locations result in a -25% movement penalty. Each location can hold double the listed number of items while being encumbering.

All items should be placed in one of these locations for purposes of calculating encumbrance. Hands can also hold 4 item weights of encumbrance without encumbering, or 8 weights with a -25% movement penalty.

Wearing chain or plate armor results in a -25% movement penalty.

Mallet: 2 gp (1 item)
Wood Stakes (3): 1 gp (1 item)
Sledgehammer: 5 gp (3 items)
Shovel: 3 gp (2 items)
Garlic: 5 gp (*)
Wolfsbane: 10 gp (*)
Mirror, Steel 5 gp (1 item)
Lock Picks: 10 gp (1 item)
