Deities

#1 Post by drpete »

There are two groups of deities worshiped in the area, the Ancient Ones, or Anganach, and the New Gods, or Futurus.

The Ancient Ones are the gods worshiped by the original inhabitants of the area. Through respect and reverence for the wilderness and its deities, the human settlers learned tos urvive and established their villages.

The New Gods have slowly been making their way into the area, aggressively converting people from the more primitive faiths. They have converted the rulers of the area, and are spreading their influence from Ironguard Motte.

Silvanus, the Green Man [Anganach]

Silvanus oversees the balance in nature: law and chaos, light and dark, growth and decay, life and death.

For generations, rangers and druids have looked to Silvanus for guidance and protection.

Faces of Silvanus have been carved into trees and rocks for centuries in the region. Tales say good fortune befalls those who chance upon his face in the wild.

Herne the Hunter, also called the Horned God [Anganach]

Herne is the god of the northern woodlands, swamps and the creatures that inhabit them. He takes the form of a deer, or a man with an antlered deer's head.

Herne chooses a favored son, a druid, barbarian, ranger or warrior to serve him as the Guardian of the Forest.

People in the region use the phrase "Herne protect you" as a toast or when parting company.

Crom [Anganach]

God of Strength and Battle, Crom is worshipped largely by fighters, rangers, barbarians and clerics.

Due to the constant threat of monsters and monstrous humanoids, Crom's faith among warriors has remained steady in comparison to that of Silvanus or Herne.

Clerics of Crom seek to advance their faith through strength of arms and feats of daring.

St Ygg [Futurus]

St Ygg is the lawful deity of righteousness and light. He believes in the highest moral standards. Self-righteous, with an indignant temper toward those who fail to see the just nature of his actions.

St Ygg is the most influential of the New deities in the region, as his clerics have been very aggressive in converting the followers of Silvanus and Herne to their faith.

St Ygg demands his followers destroy undead, as he view them as an abomination.

Arcantryl [Futurus]

Goddess of Magic, she derives her power from knowledge of the laws of the universe and existence. Her followers believe in understanding the structure of the cosmos and harnessing that knowledge to express magical energies.

Arcantryl does not have a large presence in the villages in this area, but a temple is under construction in Ironguard Motte.
