Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
The group searches the area... you find no sign of tracks, at least of recent vintage, and no traps, secret doors, or what have you. It seems, aside from these three curious, polished skulls on the table, like a fairly ordinary room.
At this point, you guys are feeling a need for a rest. You can continue without one, but a short break feels like it would be a good idea.

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Kohrek closes the door and signals a short rest. He then whispers to the skulls "Who are you?"

I am OK resting here, maybe just secure the door? Watch order the same as the 2x2 marching order?

Date: June 2, 2:00 pm, Tuesday
Season: Early Summer
Light: Nimh's Torch (Expires 2:30 pm), Moony's torch (Expires 2:30 pm)
Moon phase: New Moon
Location: Skull Table Room
The group secures the door, and takes a short rest. Kohrek wonders about the skulls, and asks them a few questions, but gets no response... They seem to be polished, but don't seem to be very animated.
What next?

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
After his rest, Kohrek picks up the middle of the three (or random skull d3 = 3 if you've numbered them) and examine it closely. Does it have writing? Does it appear to be made of any material other than bone? Human? Are all the teeth present? Are the teeth indeed teeth, etc. . .
Red 5, Standing ... Hey! Is That A Banana?
Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
The skull appears to be a regular skull. The teeth are there... they haven't been replaced by anything unusual like diamonds or anything. To the extent that you can tell looking at it, it seems to be made of bone... it's not ceramic or glass or anything very out of the ordinary seeming. The flesh is gone from it, and it seems to have been polished.
Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Quietly whispering, Shall we check out the "collapsed" area to the north?

Whispering "Sounds like a good plan." To those behind her, "We are going to check the collapsed area out, keep an eye behind us."

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
Moving along, you leave out the south door of the room with the skulls, into the long eadt-west corridor. Across the hallway, to the south, is the door leading into the room with the rats.
Looking west, 10 feet on there is an unexplored hallway north. 10 feet beyond this, there is a door in the south, which you had found stuck. Beyond that is the northbound corridor where Wick and Carling died.
Looking east, there is 20 feet of straight corridor, then the north wall of the corridor is collapsed. You head in this direction. 10 feet, 20 feet, 30 feet, to the hole in the wall.
As you walk forward, you reveal more hallway to the east. Beyond the broken section of the north wall, the hallway continues 10 feet, then there is a bricked up door to the south. Past the bricked up door, you see a regular door on the north wall of the corridor, and the corridor continues east.
Looking in the hole in the north wall, you see a featureless 20x20 room. The corridor wall seems to have been broken through from the other side, but you see no sign of whatever broke down the wall.

I don't see any potential threats or anything of interest elsewhere...let's check out the next door on the North wall.

Kohrek nods agreement.

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
You move east, past the hole in the north wall. You go 10 feet, 20 feet... passing the bricked up door in the south wall... 30 feet to the door in the north wall. From here, you can see that you have almost reached the end of this hallway. It continues an additional 10 feet east before ending in a door to the east.
You open the door to the north, and hear a *click*. A crossbow bolt shoot out of the darkness at Kohrek! Kohrek reacts quickly, and the bolt clangs off of his shield, and falls to the ground.
Inside the door, there is another 20x20 room. The room is lined with dozens of triangular burial alcoves. Within the alcoves, you see ancient skeletal remains. It looks like the remains have been disturbed by grave robbers... they look jumbled up, and some of the bones have been pulled out or shoved to the sides of the alcoves by someone who came before you.

"Same routine as the skull room, stay in pairs and search everything for anything unusual. Speak up if you need help."
Nimh heads in going counter clockwise around the room, center area last. Paired with Kohrek.

Re: Chapter 2: Back to the Barrows!
A note... searching *each* alcove takes a minute, and there are about 50 of them... let me know who will search.

I will start on the right and go counter clockwise.

I will examine the crossbow bolt. I assume it came from a trap within the room, not from down the hall.
In particular I'm trying to ascertain if it did come from a trap (assuming it would look different than one made for a hand-held bow), and how old it is (thus are the traps in here from long ago, or set more recently and perhaps maintained by dungeon denizens), and if there is anything about the design that might give us more information about the area (is it Dwarven?...what is a Dwarven crossbow bolt doing down here? etc)
I'll also keep an eye on the door at the end of the hall in case anyone emerges (don't want to be surprised).

keeps guard at the rear. Watching the spiked door doesn't give way to the nibbling rats and that the skeletons don't open the trapped door and chase us down the passage. In the room with the skulls, he would have checked them out and perhaps anointed them with some holy water before leaving them on the table. I presume they are human skulls? He in in the corridor as the crossbow trap is fired.

Date: June 2, 2:20 pm, Tuesday
Season: Early Summer
Light: Nimh's Torch (Expires 2:30 pm), Moony's torch (Expires 2:30 pm)
Moon phase: New Moon
Time since rest: 20 minutes
Location: Crossbow trap room
Lhainor examines the crossbow bolt, and finds that it is fairly ordinary, and old, but not especially ancient. It was shot from a rusty crossbow mounted on the north wall, which was connected to a tripwire hit by the door. The crossbow seems like it might have been sitting here for a while (it's rusty), but months or years, not a century or more.
The group searches the various alcoves. It looks like whoever was here before did *some* searching of the alcoves, as the things you find are a bit further back in the niches. Ultimately, you find a total of 108 gp scattered among the various alcoves.
Moony's intentions are noted. Yes, they were human skulls. Moony does not, however, have any holy water (that I see...?)
