return to Rally Point

#1 Post by wolfpack »

The two light lances head off back north to the area where the Crusaders pursuit lance encountered the Marik Malitia. Recounting the battle to Lt Orloff Lt Harlow reveals only one of the 3 downed mechs is salvageable to get operational while the other two will just be scrap but you can still use their actuators, armor, weapons, and sensors. Lt Orloff seems impressed that your lance faced down 2 separate lances without stopping for repairs and didn’t lose a mech.

Discussion is had that perhaps you can travel all the way back to the depot where the first battle took place and recover those mechs as well. The one stinger there was in great shape except for the head and you have more than enough mechs between the two lances to drag them back.
The two speedy lances fly across the terrain, jumping over mesa’s and woodlands, printing full speed across the plains as you head to the last battle area.

As you reach the area where your battle took place suddenly your sensors go off. The 3 downed mechs have been moved and across the field you register active mechs.

E1 - Phoenix hawk
E2 - Black Jack
E3 - Clint
E4 - Hermes 2

they obviously captured your approach on their scanners as they leap into action.

"Okay, ladies and gentlemen, this is it. We'll advance in two groups of 4. P1, F1, P2, & F2 sweep left. P3, F3, P4, & F4 sweep right. Try to stay in cover until we close the gap- they've got a lot of long-range firepower with those autocannons. The Clint and the Blackjack are the weakest links; the Clint has poor armor and the Blackjack is slow. Try to prioritize those two, if possible, but if a better target presents itself, take the shot. Let's move!"

tactics (target=6)
[2d6] = 11

you move first.

With numbers you have to move 2 to one when I win init.

LT Orloff comes over the unit channel

that phoenix hawk is gonna be an issue, fast with a big gun. The other 3 can all reach out and touch someone, we need to do some dirty boxing with them.

"Agreed," replies Dagger. "Try to close the range as quickly as possible and block their line of fire with any available cover."

Gene runs Tricksy to hex 1003. Lt. Orloff keeps pace in his Commando, running to hex 1004.

On direct channel to F3, David welcomes his new wingmate, "Armbuster, this is Spectre, how about you follow up behind me and we cover some ground while we're still at range? Head right and I'll catch up to you on the other side if this grove of trees." Streaking through the trees and covering the near frozen ground in a hurry, the Spider makes his way to the middle of the combat area with some tree cover to his left.

Turning to look, he sees Armbuster's Stinger making its way forward as well. Flipping open the mission wide channel, he offers, "Dagger, if they don't decide to come out and meet us, and the opportunity presents itself, I propose using this Spider's superior speed to streak in and stir up the hornet's nest in an attempt to lure them out."

P3 moves to 1110 facing 1210
F3 moves to 0917 facing 1017

Hearing Coughlin's suggestion, Gene replies, "Use your discretion, Spectre. Just don't overextend yourself and get caught in a double envelopment. Acknowledge?"

"Acknowledged Dagger. Alternatively, since our expected surplus is not here to complete this part of our mission, we could always pull back and go around back to that first warehouse. At the very least, it prevents them defending from those overlooking hills and I'm pretty sure that Blackjack can not keep up with us." Having provided his feedback, Spectre scans the surrounding area with his sensors to verify whatever retreated with 'our' surplus is not nearby where we can reach.

We have to keep moving an maximum speed, only way to get those gunners off the high ground if for someone to jump up there with them. those autocannons wont; fire at someone right on them, just don't get in their front so they can kick you.
Lt Orloff chimes in.

The mechs came to salvage have been moved to the other end of the board where the enemy mechs started.

Zeke and private white will jump to 0611 and 0612 respectively.

Opening a channel to Pvt White he says From here we should be able to go full speed to close the distance. As long as we stay together we should be fine.”

The Phoenix Hawk pushes it's throttle forward and bursts into a run

e1 run 9 to 0612
e2 jump 3 to 1202
e3 jump 3 to 1304
e4run 6 to 0907

Fire Phase
Only Dagger has a weapon that can reach anyone this round on your side

E2 fires 2 AC2 at P1
E4 fires ac5 at P1
E1 fires LL at F3
E2 (5+3 for jump +4 for distance + 3 for move=12)
AC2:[2d6] = 9
ac2:[2d6] = 7

E4 (5+2 for run+3 for move+4 for distance=12)
ac5:[2d6] = 9

e1 (4+2 for run +4 for distance +3 for move=12)
LL:[2d6] = 7
The smaller light mechs flitch as the long range weapons of the marik forces send lasers and cannons rounds around them but the distance is to great to land a hit.

"Relax boys," says Gene. "They're just finding the range. Let 'em burn the ammo. And don't let those sniper get you too rattled; they're exposed on the top of that ridge and if they want to snipe, they can't move around. That'll make them easy targets. Just keep moving and don't slow down enough to let 'em draw a bead."

After speaking to steady his troops, Dagger takes a potshot at E4, knowing it's near impossible to hit at this range, but hoping it will, at least, distract the enemy...

Ivan conserves his ammo and communicates to Brownlee to do the same. "Sarge lets conserve ammo until we are closer."
