Hamiya commune with the spiders on day 1, this is day 6, so she can do it again in 2 more days.

The warden ponders Jaskar's request. At first he seems like he is not going to tell you anything, then he rolls his eyes and nods. "The temple is on a hill. It's just some knocked over walls and broken arches. The bandits are holed up in the cellar of the temple. We couldn't breach it, though. They were on to us. Damn guard dogs!"

Regarding your request for a member of the garrison, he quickly shakes his head. "No sir! We need every man here, guarding the tower!"

Jaskar says A direct attack on the temple seems like a poor idea. Maybe we can come up with a plan to lure them out.

Hamiya says In 2 more days I can ask the spirits three questions. I will see if I can get a better idea of their numbers and methods.

Hazrahi says, We don't know who we can trust in town. Let's go somewhere where we won't be overheard and make such a plan.

Khawaji Agreed, I think we should head back towards the ambush. We can always locate the old road latter if we need to.

Jaskar will stop by the inn and make sure the wounded caravan guard's stay has been paid for (I think he needed 2 weeks rest).

I am ok with returning the the ambush spot.

Once they're away from prying eyes and ears, Hazrahi talks of his plan.

We can go back to the ambush site and hope they show up, or we can stake out their HQ and we know they'll emerge at some point. Then we can ambush the ambushers. Once we take out an away team or two, the others will be weakened enough that we can storm the HQ and finish them off. What do you think?

Date: Sanctuary 6, 10:00 am
Season: Early Spring
Weather: Warm, Strong Winds
Moon phase: Waxing Crescent
Location: At the ambush spot, north of Rangu Watchtower

The group arrives at the ambush spot with no difficulty. The corpses are still scattered around. A few look they've had animals eating them, and some have been dragged, but there is no sign of the scavengers at the moment.

The pathway you discovered earlier leads up to the top of the canyon. From this vantage point, it is pretty easy to see the road north, and keep an eye out for travellers. There are food scraps lying around, and several fairly large boulders with lots of writing on them. In Kuntani, you can read:

"We shall rise!"
"Tomas was here!"
"A.T. + G.D"
"Red Hand Forever!"
"Die, Khazak!"

and other scribbles, including drawings of people being killed with swords. All done with a crude hand.

Hamiya says In two days I can commune with the spirits and ask 3 yes or no questions. I plan to ask:

Are there more than 30 bandits residing in the abandoned temple?
Do the bandits watch the road each day in order to ambush travelers?
Will the bandits parlay with us in good faith?

I'm open to suggestions to change the questions...

Sooooo... do you guys want to fast forward 2 days, or something else? You could do that at the ambush spot, at the Rangu Tower, or in Tusha, the village/caravanserai one day's travel to the north. The place identified as the bandit hideout is also 2 days away. If you want to spend days out in the wild, we'll need to tick off rations, as the amount of food you take with you will determine how much time you can stay out in the wild.

Alright, then... since we're entering a new "week", I ask that you deduct money for upkeep. Realizing it's an abstraction, it represents miscellaneous costs associated with room/board/lifestyle for the week. The default amount for this is 7 gp/week for a 1st level character. Also, you should deduct one day's ration each (except for Hazrahi and Aghilas, see below)

You resolve to wait for a few days out at the ambush site, away from prying eyes, as Hamiya reestablishes her connection to the spirit world. You locate a small cave shelter that seems to have been where the bandits slept, though there is little of value there, just some bedrolls and a few random personal items. Clearing them out, you find it to be reasonably comfortable for a group about your size.

While you wait, Aghilas hunts, and brings down a few small game animals, with which he is able to feed the group for a day. Between those that brought food, and the leftovers from the hunt, the group is able to eat for a second day. During this time, you locate a cave that seems to have been where the bandits slept, though there is little of value there, just some bedrolls and a few random personal items.

Around 2 in the morning on the second night, there is a sound down in the valley of grunting and cracking with rocks. Looking down into the valley where you fought the bandits, you see several hunched figures hacking at the corpses of the bandits. It seems that they are dismembering the bodies. You count seven of them, and note that they seem to be dishevelled and wearing rags.

Khawaji will wake everyone up quietly and carefully. Whispering to them all the same thing: Some humanoids down below near the bandits bodies.
Khawaji is out of money and Solomon is down to 8sp

Being out of money, they don't have to pay, so long as they can find food and shelter free. They would get an xp penalty if they haven't spent and "excess"
on lifestyle enough to cover them for the week.

Deducted rations and expenses for Jaskar and Hamiya

Hamiya shrugs and whispers Without scavengers the world would be full of the dead and broken. Rarawk!

Kareek bob's his head up and down as if in agreement.

Jaskar says Whatever that is seems better prepared for night then us. I say we let them go, we have bigger fish to fry.

Date: Sanctuary 8, 8:00 am
Season: Early Spring
Weather: Warm
Moon phase: First Quarter
Location: Above the Ambush site, road north of Rangu Watchtower

Watching from the safety of the top of the cliff, you see the disturbing scavengers chop up the bodies of the bandits and lug them away. Between them, they take about half of the bodies, leaving a collection of limbs and torsos behind. They seem to either have taken little interest in you, or not to have noticed you as they went about their work. In any case, after about an hour of work, the scavengers move away and leave you in peace.

The next morning comes, and Hamiya is ready to ask her questions of the spirit world.

As I understand it, these are the questions proposed... could you confirm that these are the ones that Hamiya asks?

Are there more than 30 bandits residing in the abandoned temple?
Do the bandits watch the road each day in order to ambush travelers?
Will the bandits parlay with us in good faith?

Also, looking for confirmation about upkeep for Willow and Aghilas. They've both paid a bunch of "extra" upkeep so wouldn't suffer an xp penalty if they just live off of the land/rations, but want to confirm that that is happening. Those with horses/mules also need to pay for upkeep for them.

It looks like sulldawga is going to be leaving the game. We'll be writing Hazrahi out, shortly. Barkman has suggested he was interested in joining, but I'm not sure if that's happening or not.
