Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
Flynn will take a place along the wagon hitch and help pull. A sigh escapes his lips. "This is going to be a long walk"
Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
"Better than the alternative" Eric adds. He will lend his shoulders and legs.
Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
Resuming marching order, with some members of the group helping pull the carts, the rest of the afternoon goes by uneventful. The sun is starting to set and the hills and flat grasslands you've been traveling open up to a forest's edge. Not the Great Forest, but a smaller one between Iron Glade and New Dathan. A traveler's way station can be found a short distance into the forest line, a campsite set up next to a ranger's small cabin.
Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
Mehath will scout out the campsite/cabin.

Flynn brushes the dirt from the road off of his clothes and rubs his worked muscles. "Eager for some new scenery I said. Need some excitement, said I." he sighs.
Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
"Be careful what you wish for," agrees Elethil.
"Let us ensure that this way station is what it seems before we approach." If there are no objections, Elethil slips into the forest to get a better look at the ranger station, but still at some distance.

Mehath It checks out, all clear.
Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
Confident that the place does not have any hidden surprises, Mehath returns with a quick report on the grounds' condition. The campsite does not appear to be in use right now, and the cabin looks decidedly abandoned. What few tents that are pitched currently are also empty. Tear marks can be found all over the place as if there was an animal attack or something of the like. No bodies were found and the campfire pit is cold.
Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
"Perfect, firewood, food, water and sleep." Eric says before looking at the group, "Who's doing what?"
Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
Mehath I can gather some firewood and take first watch.

Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
Flynn leans on the wagon and addresses the prisoner. "Looks like a good enough place to hold up for the night, eh? You been'eer before? Whatcha know 'bout this place? Loosinin yer tongue is like ta get ya a bite ta eat..."
Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
The gagged spellcaster bandits cannot reply to Flynn's remark, for obvious reasons. He was gagged for a reason too, no doubt in order to prevent any magical word casting.
The Iron Glade man volunteers to help with the second watch, not really trusting himself to get a full night's sleep anyways. Part of his watch will be in observing the bound and gagged spellcasters, making sure nothing happens over the night.
"This place still looks empty. No one was around here when I journeyed to New Dathan. Didn't see many people on the roads, to be honest. A whole lot of empty stretches and silence."

Elethil stands guard when his shift comes.
Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
When morning comes, Mehath will check the prisoners and make breakfast.
Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
The firewood is collected and the group settles down for the night and sets up their respective watches. Food and water were taken care of by Eric and whoever else volunteers to help set up the evening meal. Though there is very few if any wildlife in this area of the forest, plant life is plentiful, berries being a welcome addition to the travel rations everyone is using. A small water source is found nearby, but you can't verify if it is clean or not by looking at it.
Mehath volunteers to take the first watch and finds the beginning of the night to be calm, Flynn providing an extra set of eyes to the prisoners, his previous attempts at getting information out of the gagged spellcasters having failed. The Iron Glade Man, having kept watch of the prisoners under the group's care, alongside Flynn, swaps with Mehath and is joined by Elithil near the fire set up earlier, to start the second watch.
The man is uneasy about the situation, not having had a decent nights sleep in many days, what with the nightmares that seem to follow him, his eyes dart heavily from tree to tree, as if expecting a skeletal steed to burst out and trample their fire or something just as easily sinister. Every now and then a few bushes will rustle here and there, only to find a small animal passing through. He looks over at the tied and gagged spellcasters and shakes his head.
"Elf." He says flatly towards Elithil. "Your kind knows more about magic, this we all know. So tell me," he gestures towards the spellcasters with a toss of his hand, "is it worth keeping them alive? They've used magic for evil, burning and killing others. Would they not be beyond hope if they've fallen so far? Why... they could very well be plotting against us as we speak." He goes back to scanning the forest line, but he looks over at Elithil every now and then for an answer.
It is as clear as day that the man does not like playing sitter to magic using criminals of the land, even if it is for the purpose of handing them over to a law figure. He also doesn't hide his distaste for talking with someone of Elithil's kind.
Akabel and Eric are sleeping and will be woken for a third watch if needed.

From this point on, I will try to keep the posts coming more frequently. A few players have stated that they check the forum at least once a day, or as often as they can. The others have not spoken on the matter yet. So with all that said, if the pace of the game becomes too fast (for some reason), let me know. I will most likely be responding to one or two active players a lot to help keep things moving.

Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
Elethil listens calmly to the Iron Glade Man. Even though the human's distaste is evident, Elethil's face is blank. He has certainly heard worse. Thinly veiled hostility is at least veiled.
"They can plot all they like," answers the elf, slowly and levelly, "but we do not execute people for things they have not yet done. That is the way of darkness. We will bring these people to the proper authorities—not because we think we can get something out of them, but because it is the law, and because it is right to do so."

Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
The Iron Glade man looks away in silence, a heavy sigh escaping him. Rubbing the back of his neck, he nods in agreement. For a moment, he was hoping to hear something much different, something that would give him a reason to use his sword. But as Elithil said, there was a proper order to things, and if he was anything, he was a man who obeyed the law of the land.
The second watch goes by without further event, and the last two of the group, Eric and Akabel take the final watch. It is during the final hours of the night that something catches their attention, just as the light starts to break slowly into the sky. Something wasn't right. The air, it was filled with the scent of smoke, too much to come from any single fire, and the fire that they've been nursing all night was ready to die at any moment.

Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
Elethil rises from his seat and smells the air. He looks around, trying to determine the source of the fire, fervently hoping that it is not the forest itself.
Re: Chapter 1: A New Dawn for New Dathan
Eric looks around the horizon looking for the unmistakable orange glow that can only mean one thing.
