A closer inspection of the desks reveals that a lot of documents here look important and even worth stealing. Deeds to the land that Iron Glade is situated on, tax records, business ledgers, hell, there's even a pouch of gold nestled in a corner of a drawer; not even an amateur thief would miss something like that. After searching Haeger's desk, Elithil moves on to Brother Bolden's. It is in a similar state of disarray, but your keen eyes catch something that is amiss.
Search for Hidden Doors [1d6] = 1

I made a roll for Elithil in searching for Hidden doors, in this case, panels. The result was a success. If you'd prefer to make these rolls for yourself in the future, do let me know. I did this to help save some back and forth, and to keep the plot moving.

Brother Bolden's desk had a hidden panel. You slide it to reveal a compartment large enough to conceal a book, but instead of a book, you found a single piece of fine parchment with a symbol etched on to it. It is the symbol of the Order of the Knife.
"Find anything?" asks the Iron Glade man. It would appear as if his search of the room was fruitless, only leaving more questions than answers. You can tell as much from just looking at his expression.
Even a child that receives one bit of praise has the ability to excel in a single talent, and those who receive regular encouragement can feel confidence, achieve success, and become leading members of society. Because they don’t believe they are worthless, they don’t need to raise a fist and have vengeance against fate or the world at large… ~Inspector Lunge

Elethil holds up the parchment with the symbol of the Order of the Knife on it. His usually impassive face shows a look of grave concern. "This is the symbol of an assassins guild—the Order of the Knife. We have had...dealings."

He regards the hidden compartment with a frown. "This may be a calling card," he says, setting the parchment down on the desk. "Perhaps a book was stolen, and the Order of the Knife wanted its owner to know who took it. If so, we are no closer to knowing what happened to everyone. Members of the Order are assassins, not soldiers; mass killing is not their style. Or would at least be prohibitively expensive to obtain. They are also violently opposed to magic—literally—and the disappearance of an entire town stinks of magic."

"I had hoped for answers, not more questions," he sighs.

Seeing no other option, Elethil speaks a few words in a strange tongue and scans the room before stepping outside.

Cast detect magic, scanning the room and then as much of the surrounding area as he can before the spell duration expires.

"Assassins? MORE magic?" The Iron Glade man simply groans in exhaustion. "Tomorrow, I will deal with this tomorrow, and I sure as hell am not going to sleep outside." The man departs and heads back to Red Rock Inn. He gives a look that says, 'go ahead, you can break the bad news.'

Leaving the building, after thoroughly scanning the rooms on the way out, you don't detect any magical items within the vicinity. The immediate area outside also does not reveal anything magical.

Based off of this knowledge, it is safe for Elithil to assume that Brother Bolden, if he did bring anything magical with him to this mining town, either had it on his person or had it hidden far away from here.

Elethil shakes his head, shrugs, and returns to the Red Rock inn to rejoin the others. On the way, he looks again for any footprints or tracks—any sign at all the people left or were taken away instead of simply vanishing. He has a growing sense of apprehension at what the mass disappearance might mean.

Back at the inn, he takes Flynn aside. "People vanishing without a trace," he says. "Does that remind you of anything? Could these people have been pulled away the same way we were taken not long ago? We thought we had defeated the person who did that to us and destroyed the magical item he did it with. Is it possible that we were mistaken?"

Eric busiess himself preparing a stem for supper. He stokes a fire and roasts some meat while he chops some veggies and brings them to a stiff boil. He then cuts up the meat and adds it all together with a healthy dash of salt.

Mehath

Mehath will search around and find a safe room to stay in for the night and see if there is easy access to the roof in case he needs an emergency exit. Then he will head down and help Eric with the stew.

The group's search of the inn reveals that it is devoid of any people, empty as empty can be. The rooms on the floor above show that people have recently occupied them, even some personal effects remain in a few rooms, but no sign of their owners can be found. Each room has a window, and the windows on the second floor open up to a steep overhang of shingles. Not impossible to traverse, but tricky to the untrained.

I should also note that there are no signs of damage found anywhere in the inn, no broken windows or furniture, no scratch marks or blood stains. This is all from just a cursory glance and sweep of the area.

The smell of a hearty stew wafts in the air as the others return from their searches of the town and rooms. It looks like you all will have a warm meal before retiring for the night. Some conversations are still to be had, but when everyone is ready for it, go ahead and set up some night watches if you deem it necessary. Once I know who is doing what and when I will start rolling some dice.

Flynn nods grimly in thought at Elethils comment. "I'm quite naive about magic, I'll tell ya for free.
But there's never just one rat on a ship. Ya see one, you missed five others..."

He takes another bite of bread. "We had the luck of knowin where the rats were last time, in a round about way...We're kinda goin blind now..."

"Do not worry," says Elethil levelly. "If our customary fortune holds, the rats will find us soon enough."

"As much as I value privacy, perhaps we should gather in one room tonight," suggests Elethil. "If whatever pulled these people away strikes at night or in our sleep, we will be better equipped to fight it or see it if we are together."

For those who find sleep, it is sound enough but you can't help but feel a nagging restlessness in the far corner of your mind. A pull? The thought lingers as you approach a door in some sort of dreamscape. On the door is carved an eye, closed but slowly opening...

Those on watch (mainly those who did not require time to recharge spells through rest) notices something strange around the dead of night. Looking out the window, you are able to tell by the moon's position that it somewhere between midnight and 1 in the morning. Down below, an eerie display of nocturnal sleepwalking is found.

A hundred or so figures, easily, can be seen slowly shuffling through the dirt roads to individual houses and buildings. No torches are carried and everyone, from what you can see has a glazed look on their face. The opening and closing of doors can be heard inside the inn now. Those who slumber in your room, stir in their sleep but do not awaken from the noise.

Actions?

Elethil, presumably asleep, sleeps.

Who is awake?

Eric, Elithil, and Akabel used spells, so they sleep/pray. The Iron Glade Man went to sleep as well. That leaves Flynn and Mehath being the only ones awake to see the night time activity. If the group went to sleep around the end of dusk (7-8) that would mean at least four hours of sleep until the activity occurred. If the spellcasters are awoken around the end of the second shift, they will have rested enough and be ready to take over for the early morning.

*Disclaimer*
I cannot find anything in the OSRIC manual about the necessity for periods of resting and prayer to recover spells. I believe it is one of those things where it is implied without directly being said. If there is a section on this, please point it out to me, otherwise, I will just abstract the whole process and say you got enough to sleep to recover your spells.

Upon hearing the sounds of activity in the middle of the night, and after having seen the display of people walking on the roads, Mehath wakes the others. 4 hours of rest has been had. The spellcasters received just enough rest to start memorizing and praying for their spells of the day.

The Iron Glade Man, clearly not enjoying being woken up so soon after falling asleep, struggles to get his bearings, awkwardly reaching out for his sword in a half-awake daze. "Wha- *yawns* What is it," he says in a low voice, barely above a whisper. He looks towards Mehath and Flynn, the only two awake enough to know what is going on right now. He then looks out the window to check the sky. Moon is high, not morning yet, he observes.

Mehath

In a low voice "The people are returning" as he points out the window. "They are acting like they are in a trance."

Elethil watches the reverse exodus, puzzled. "How could so many people have departed on foot and left no trace?"
