Flynn will jump from the cart and move away from it a bit so as to keep the prisoners out of the line of fire.
"Heel, hellish flea bag!" he shouts and lunges at the beast.

Flynn jumps from the cart and lunges his rapier towards the hound in front of him, "Heel, hellish fleabag!" The hellhound, in turn, backs off from the cart, dodging the attack, but setting itself up for a finishing blow from Elithil. The warrior elf does not hesitate in putting the creature down. The flames crackling in its mouth fade away as it drops to the ground motionless.

Mehath swings his long sword at hellhound 3, initially missing by a hair's breadth. Eric takes advantage of the opening that was created from the hellhound's dodge and smacks it with his quarterstaff. Dazed and focused on Eric, the hellhound does not see Akable whip out his mace. Summoning a sort of divine strength uncommon amongst men, he slams the mace into the hound with incredible accuracy.

The Iron Glade man's stalemate finally shifts to his favor as he is able to knick the hellhound before him, his fortune, however, does not last long. The hellhound rears back and leaps at the man, biting him in the sword arm. He shouts in pain, the burning fangs having bitten deep (10 points of damage). Though he is able to muster enough strength for another swing of the sword, he misses, not surprisingly. The hellhound confronting Eric switches target to Akabel, seeing him as a more immediate threat. The hound lunges but misses terribly as Mehath stops it mid-air with a second sword slice and puts it down for good.

Three of the four hellhounds are slain, and the last one remains engaged with the Iron Glade Man. The man is bleeding from his bite wound and is on the defensive now, slowly edging back to the campsite. Hellhound 4 is still in the same position as was last shown on the combat map. Elithil and Flynn are near the carts, and the remainder of the group has not changed positions.

Combat Rolls:
Mace attack [1d20] = 20 damage [1d6+1] = 3+1 = 4 Akabel's attack
[1d20] = 12 Iron Glade Man's to hit
Longsword attack [1d8] = 2
[1d20] = 11 Iron Glade Man's second to hit
[1d20] = 3 Hellhound 3's to hit
[1d20] = 13 Hellhound 4's to hit
[1d10] = 10 Hellhound 4's bite

Mehath moves and attacks the last Hell Hound

Long Sword, to hit [1d20+4] = 1+4 = 5, damage [1d8+4] = 2+4 = 6

Flynn will eyeball the prisoners to ensure they aren't up to mischief and then run to aid in the last dogs demise. If he can attack he will.
Rapier attack (Thac0: 13) [1d20+3] = 5+3 = 8 Damage:[1d6+3] = 6+3 = 9

The group rushes the last hound. Though Mehath reaches it first, his sword swings were made in haste, causing him to arc the air instead. Flynn too experiences a bout of ill luck as his rapier thrust is dodged. It is Elithil's final swings of the blade that put the last hellhound down for the count; his swordsmanship is as sharp as his diplomatic tongue and he is not afraid to show it in front of evil.

The battle is over, but the race against time is still afoot. As the battle waged on, the flames drew closer to the campsite. Smoke now hangs heavily in the air. You are near the forest's edge, but if you wish to save anything else not already on your person, you will need to act fast.

Flynn looks to the oncoming fire and to the prisoners
"I dont think we can pull the wagons and still escape the inferno. " he says grimly.
"A hard choice is on us."

"Grab what you can," says Elethil. "Bring the prisoners; we cannot leave them to a tortuous death in the fire. I will take the cart." With that, the strong elf hoists the cart and pulls it, making himself a beast of burden.

The Iron Glade Man, despite his injury, understands the urgency of the moment and joins Elithil in helping push/pull the carts. "Supplies can be replaced, lives can't!" he shouts to those nearby. "Hurry!"

Akabel too sees the wisdom in this action. After grabbing his pack, he rushes to carts and helps put his strength to good use.

(I cannot speak for Eric or Mehath. Please respond soon for I would like to get this game back up and running again. Thank you.)

Mehath runs over and helps push the carts. "Keep alert who knows what we will run into fleeing the fire!"

Eric lends his back and muscles to the situation while saying. "We need to find a clearing with some rocks, Run!"

The members of the group grab their individual belongings in a mad dash towards the carts with the bound prisoners. The flames of the forest fire spread like a lightning across the green brush as the heat of the fires bite against your ankles. With your combined efforts, you get the prisoners, and yourselves, out of the forest without suffering any major burns. As you turn to look behind you, the campsite and ranger's cabin bursts into flames as the fire consumes what is left of the clearing you were just in, hellhound corpses and all.

The flames, fortunately, stop near the forest's edge, not finding much ground to expand upon. The grassy plains and hills that greeted the forest were littered with many boulders and rock outcroppings. The Iron Glade man stops after reaching a safe distance from the forest fire and catches his breath. Looking back over his shoulder, he scans the area quickly to see if anything followed. From what you can tell, nothing did.

"Those damned hounds..." he says in short bursts in between deep breaths. "Were they sent after us?" He looks warily over at the prisoners. "Or after them?"

Mehath

"Good question. I think we will need to do some exploring once the fire has burnt itself out."

Elethil shakes his head sadly and closes his eyes. "Such a waste," he says. "So many trees."

His eyes, when he opens them again, are full of resolve. "We must get to Iron Glade. Perhaps there they can tell us more about what is happening here."

"You short-lived humans take umbrage when we express similar sentiments about you," says Elethil flatly.
