Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
At the risk of removing some of the mystery, I'm going to clarify something to avoid the chance of things going pear-shaped early.
As Keehnelf wrote in his (late dormant, lamented) West Marches campaign: the town is not the adventure. You're in the prologue right now. No one you will meet in town is behind the temple disappearing. Hostile acts—including the use of magic against people who are not hostile and are in fact already trying to help you—will be met with forceful disapproval by the town constabulary. You might be powerful enough to do serious damage to the town before they bring in enough reinforcements to put you down, but that's not the campaign you signed up for or I want to run.
Also, if you act like jerks to the person who knows the most about the place you're about to go, you may find yourselves less prepared for the trip than you should be.
So act civilized.

Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
I must say; I LOVE the book titles.....I ESPECIALLY want an autographed, first edition copy of Passion from Across the Astral!
Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
It's a bodice-ripper in which a deva and a succubus find true love but their families disapprove.
Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
Also: sorry about the wall of text. If any of you need a "Damn it, Jim, I'm too busy too read all that!" version, let me know and I'll try to summarize the important points.

Re: Character Creation Thread
Hey Zhym - do you include spells from the Unearthed Arcana list? A couple in there might be helpful that I hadn't thought of...
Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
Nope. No Unearthed Arcana. Sorry.

Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
Hi all - I'm going to be AFK pretty much until Friday the 30th. Please NPC Hallagad as necessary.
Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
Thanks. This week is going to be pretty insane for me too. I have two different moves—one local, one long-distance—and a whole mess of stuff to do at work. So it may be a slow week all around.

Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
Hey guys,
I'll be traveling this holiday weekend and may be unable to get online. Back on Thursday, 7/6.
If I'm holding things up, please NPC my character. Thanks!

Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
I posted the temple map and some biographical info about Emirikol (and the iconic artwork) in the Legends and Lore thread. I'd suggest keeping an eye open for posts in that thread—I may post background information there that doesn't make it into IC posts.
Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
That's a little out of context now, but it's about this post:

I wanted to keep the Legends & Lore thread clear of OOC chatter so I moved the comment here.

Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
Would a gate spell work in this case to open a doorway between us and emerikol (or does it only work between two different planes and not the same plane)?
thx,
thx,
Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
I'm going to say no. It may work between points on the same plane (that might come up...). But the target of the Gate must be a "being of great power" such as a demon, devil, god, demi-god, etc. Even very high-level NPCs aren't powerful enough to be Gated. Also, you need the target's true name, which not the same as a person's birth name, and is typically very difficult to discover.
And Gate only works one way: it brings something to the caster. It can't take the caster anywhere else.

Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
I'm on vacation this week so I don't know how much posting I will be able to do.
Sometimes this summer I will most likely be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

Re: OOC Discussion and Table Talk
As the new thread and the time stamp and status line on the latest post indicate, we're now out of the prologue and into the adventure proper. So no more convenient teleport devices and other plot devices to move things along.
In other words: you're on your own, kids.
I need a marching order.
Also: math time. The module says that the Metalstorm "can be heard for 20 miles." Assuming that's 40 dB at 20 miles, the sound pressure at 300 yards would be about 80 dB—roughly the noise level of a garbage disposal. At 100 yards it's 90 dB, about the same as a motorcycle at 25 feet. At 10 yards it's 110 dB, roughly the level of a rock concert. At 1 yard it's 130 dB, which is twice as loud as the level needed to cause physical pain and is the same as a "military jet aircraft take-off from aircraft carrier with afterburner at 50 ft."
