Character creation rules are here: viewtopic.php?f=489&t=6557#p306726

Note that the "Roll Stats" function in the dice roller is fine. So is re-doing that until you get stats you like.

Also: non-humans are not level-capped, but single-classed humans get an extra 4 points to allocate to their stats (imported single-class humans also get those four points).

If it makes you at all nervous that I'm basically letting you power up your PCs as much as possible...it should.

Thanks. After my terrible macro rolls, I can use it!

My Monk is morphing into a dual class Fighter-Monk, so he can have a katana.

Zhym, I've got questions about this:
What is the prime requisite stat for the Monk please?
Let's say he was a single class Fighter first, until 8th or 9th level, and then became a Monk until 14th or 15th level. Can he still have double specialization with the sword?
Does he gain 15% experience for the Fighter levels if he had a high strength?
Do the Monk restrictions (against Dex affecting AC, or Str affecting "to hit" chance) actually go away as a dual class fighter-monk???
Thanks.

I wonder if i dare create a mage again? Odilo didn't fare well in ToH nor in his rebirth in a different game.

I'm going to say a high-level monk can use a katana. If he chooses to attack with a weapon instead of his hands, he's just doing his target a favor. See post below.

Monks don't get XP bonuses (PHB, top of p. 30).

Double specialization is only available to characters that are single class as of the start of this game. I'm trying to give a bonus to PCs that don't have what I'd call "backdated dual classing," where a player can allocate XP to multiple classes. If played naturally, dual classing a character to two high levels would be a real pain. Brought in at high level, a player can avoid all that pain and get the benefit. I'm not going to nerf that too hard, but I want the attribute bonus to go to PCs that don't use this "loophole."

Also, I'd highly recommend making your PCs as high level as possible instead of splitting the XP among multiple classes. Some Tomb of Horrors PCs had that problem and it really limited the spell selection available, for example.

And I'm going to say that monk restrictions still apply in a dual-classed fighter/monk, based on dual classed fighter/MUs not being able to cast while wearing armor.

Man. Autocorrect made a mess of that one. :)

Now I want to create a character in some game who speaks only in bad autocorrect. "I wider dare I create a he again?" almost sounds like a language. Or authentic frontier gibberish.

I forgot about the bonus to damage monks get per level. That might make a weapon better than the open hand attack. So I'll say a monk can use a "katana" that does the same damage as other weapons the monk can use (spear, staff, etc.): 1d6/1d8. A katana is basically a short sword for game purposes.

Unless its a creature that can only be hit by a +1 weapon. :)

Monks can use a halberd for d10/2d6. Can he use the katana two handed for that?

Ah, right. "Pole arms," which usually means "halberd." :D

I've considered using a simplified weapons system where there are basically just four classes of weapons:

Tiny (anyone can use): d4
Small (most classes except MUs can use): d6
Regular (fighter types can use): d8
Two-handed: d10

That way people could choose weapons for flavor without worrying about damage. But I'm not sure I'm ready to go there yet. What do you think?

As for the "katana" - how about a naginata? d8/d10 damage. I'm not sure where it appears in 1e (oriental adventures?), but those are the 2e stats.

Thanks. I appreciate it.

But if you allow it, I might go Fighter/Monk anyway. His backstory is an honorless evil Ronin killer (Fighter) who has an epiphany and becomes a LG Monk.
Adding William Munny to the Caine/Morpheus/Elektra archetypes.

If you don't allow Fighter/Monk, I totally understand. :)

Let me think about that. I want to avoid "freebie levels"--i.e., a class needs only 2,250,000 xp for the level and the next level needs 2,750,000 so the player figures "what the heck, might as well use the other 250,000 xp for free fighter/thief levels." Or, "hey, with a few xp the PC doesn't need I can get some extra skills."

My first impulse is just to say that demihuman multiclassing is allowed at character creation but not human-style dual classing.

The whole race thing I know this isn't even in 1e as a race that I know of... but how badly would you entertain the idea of a Tiefling Zhym? Fairly certain i already know the answer to this one, if I'm right no worry I"ll just make something else. ;)

Looks like that first became a PC race option in 4e, so I'm gonna say no to PC tieflings. :)
