Welcome to Restenford!
Re: Welcome to Restenford!
Before Daregold leaves, one question - will anyone be lighting a torch or lantern? It's getting dark, so in a few minutes it will be difficult to see well, as no light source is close enough to illuminate the abandoned structure.
Daregold checks his gear, nods, and he he stealthily makes his way to the shadows and vegetation of the building, where he is quickly engulfed by the darkness and shadows...
A little over ten minutes pass and the intrepid halfling emerges from the opposite end of the building where he started from. With his patented smile he relays the following information (see map)
Without actually entering the building, simply peering inside via openings reveals:
Room 1: Daregold is unable to see in this room. The main door from outside leads to this room
Room 2: Through a breach in the wall (the roof is also burned away in the breach area) the following is visible: six charred and weather damaged cots, dirt and leaves strewn about, a couple small puddles on the floor.
Room 3: This room has some wooden racks and warped crates in it. There appear to be some arrows, spears and a few weapons in here, and a couple long tables with about 8 chairs. As with room 2, the floor is covered in dirt, leaves and some moss growing in.
Room 4: This room has two 10x10 cells in it, the doors to each cell hanging open. A cot, small table and a broken footlocker are centered on the south wall, and a door is on the east wall.
Room 5: Daregold is unable to see in this room, just that a door exists in the north wall.
In general, the building appears to be dirty and hastily abandoned, and apparently no items of value are visible. Daregold sees no signs of life, and there are tracks and disturbances in the soil at both breaches in the wall, but due to low light, he can't make them out.

Azhug - Fighter
Maybe start there? Pointing at the hole in the wall to room two. There may be weapons we can recover....
OCC: Azhug see fine at night and smell of rat will lead us.

Daregold: Thief
"Well, my friends, perhaps we can search the two rooms I couldn't view? We could always hold up for the night, lite an alluring fire, maybe spring an ambush if the overgrown rodent shows up to investigate?
Azhug has a good point. Maybe there are items to recover and make use of, or procure a bit of coin from."

Re: Welcome to Restenford!
I doubt a fire would be alluring to a rat, my friend. They tend to prefer shadows, says Holger. Let's search the building room by room, starting with, as Azhug suggests, that one. (pointing to Room #2) For some reason I doubt we'd recover weaponry, but if St. Poul then we will be thankful.

I'm wiling to acquiesce to your personal experience with rats, Daregold, replies the paladin with a wink.

"Well, I need some light to see. I haven't been blessed with the ability to see through the shadows."
Arduro lights his lantern and makes his way to the hole in the wall. (Room #2)

Re: Welcome to Restenford!
With the lantern shedding more light on the details of the room, you can see pretty clearly in room 2 (and parts of room 3) as you enter.
Room 2 is pretty much as described. The roof area over the breach between rooms 2 and 3 is broken and missing in a large spot, allowing water to enter and pool on the stone floor. The room is damp with a few puddles here and there, six burned and ruined cots are here, all looking ruined and unable to bear any weight without snapping. There are also some craps of clothing here and there, and a single broken arrow on the floor. In the dirt and mud, you do notice tracks from what appears to be a large rodent, possibly a large rat or similar animal. They are heading in random directions, so it's difficult to tell how many animals were here, or where they came from, but the tracks go out through the breach, and some go into the areas of the building. There are two solid oak doors, one in the south wall, and one on the west wall, both closed.
From what you can see in room 3, there are some warped wooden racks holding a couple spears, some arrows, and some other items on the racks, not clearly visible from where you are now. There are 8 wooden crates near the breach, all appear to be broken open and warped from water - all empty. The two tables and 8 chairs are against the far wall, and seem to be dusty but not suffering water damage. Some apparent rat tracks enter and exit this room as well. There is no door out of room three, but you can see some broken bits of what was likely a door that was near the breach in the wall, allowing access between room 2 and 3.
BOTH ROOMS: The tracks seem to be old, possibly anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month old.

Daregold: Thief
The Halfling goes to the weapon rack and gives that a once over. He'll also search the area for secret (trap) doors.

Re: Welcome to Restenford!
Holger nods at Azhug's suggestion, watching Daregold's activity with interest.
Re: Welcome to Restenford!
Azhug scans the rack and out of the 6 spears on it, he finds one that is serviceable and not warped and unusable. A quick search of the room reveals 80 arrows in one overturned crate, but all are warped, moldy and useless, two shortbows, also warped and unusable, and 2 battle axes, the blades rusty but possibly re-usable, but the handles are beyond salvage.
Room 2 is exactly as described. Cots are ruined, all contents of the room are ruined and soggy.
A search for secret doors or compartments turns up nothing. The only exit visible is the door in south wall of room 2.

Holger waits a moment for everyone to be ready, and then opens the door to the south.

OCC: Spear added to sheet.

Daregold attempts to hide in shadows before the door is opened.greyarea wrote:Holger waits a moment for everyone to be ready, and then opens the door to the south.
Re: Welcome to Restenford!
The lantern is hoisted high, and Daregold falls back a bit to hide in the ample shadows toward the back of the room.
The door is slightly swollen in the frame, but with a barely perceptible creak, it swings open.
The room is 40x40, and the only exit is the door to the outside on the east wall. The room is totally empty, save for a bunch of the large rat tracks in it. As with the other room, they appear to be anywhere from a week to a month old, or thereabouts. (I'm assuming since nothing is in this room, the party will go back into room two, then check the door on the west wall?
Hearing nothing at the door on the west wall, you cautiously open it, and it leads to a 10x30 passage. There is a door centered on the west wall (presumably leading to the room with the cells in it) and there is a closed door at the south end of the passage, to a room that you haven't seen in yet.
Actions? If you wish to do anything else in room 1, let me know.

Holger motions to Daregold the universal sign to "stay hidden."
