Weeba, standing by with sword and shield drawn, nods to Digsby to open it.

Day 1, Evening (turn 11)

Image

Deep within the indecipherable tunnels of the Eastlands, worlds away from home, the party prepares to burst through yet another door.

Digsby finds all in order and throws the latch once everyone is in place. The door swings open with the sound of wet creaking wood…

Your lights splash illumination onto another abandoned meeting room, this one rather officious and stately. Its centrepiece is an incredibly long and wide table lined with dozens of chairs. All of the furniture looks like it was once very fancy, but the dank wetness of this part of the dungeon seems to have transformed everything into a state of dilapidated rot.

The table is bare except for a brass container that glints in the firelight right in the middle of the huge table, about the size of a breadbox.

First, look under the table.

And Doughty inspects the ceiling and corners.

If all is clear, he'll look more closely at the box without touching (yet).

As Doughty and Weeba begin their inspections, Digsby keeps an eye out and plays rear guard. These tunnels had sprung more than one surprise and he certainly didn't fancy another.

Day 1, Evening (still turn 11)

The adventurers immediately begin scouring the room, being careful not to touch anything. There are no signs of bloody battle like the previous room, and all of the furniture looks more or less in place. The underside of the table is without occupants, and the ceiling and corners are devoid of interest. The box is wooden, reinforced with iron, and clasped shut with a rusty old lock. A thin slot is cut into the top.

The room is even more dank than the hall outside, enough that you can feel it in your lungs.

Digsby takes control of the rearguard and watches the halls for anything untoward. Fortunately, their pattering down this seemingly abandoned part of the dungeon hasn't seemed to attract any new customers, yet.

Doughty does his best to check the locked box for traps. If no traps present themselves, he will try to pick the lock and open it, facing the box so it opens away from him.

As Doughty begins to work with the box Digsby leans into the room. "Doughty, that slit on top, could a coin slip through?" Digsby asks. The gardener flips a gold piece across to Doughty.

I'm trying to get money out .. starts Doughty. Then he shrugs and tries putting the coin into the slot before his other actions.

Day 1, Evening (still turn 11)

Doughty gives the box a visual once over, then tries to reach forward onto the wide table to give it a physical inspection. The youthful hobb places a foot onto one of the nearby chairs and hoists himself up, and both chair and table snap and crumble beneath him! Doughty falls through and is covered by the collapsing table in a tremendous crash.

Doughty must make a LK Saving Roll (Level 3 - DX mod) to avoid taking 2 damage:
Doughty SR: [1d6] = 6 [1d6] = 1
7 + 7 (LK) = 14, vs SR difficulty of 27.
Failed, Doughty take 2 hits.

The others dig the poor hobb out of the mess and dust him off. Still a little concussed, the hobb looks down to see that he still clutches the wooden box tightly in his hands. The side of it burst open in the crash, and its contents—apparently gold coins—have scattered all over the ground where the table collapsed.

Doughty smiles awkwardly as he rubs his hips, shoulder and head. He flips the gold coin back to Digsby, then, after looking carefully at a few for features, he uses a small sack to gather up the found coins.

What are the coins stamped with?
And thanks for making the roll.

As the others extricate Doughty from the mess of timber, dust and splinters, Digsby carefully examines the hall outside for any attention the noise may have attracted. Once satisfied he turns back to the others and fields the coin flipped back to him. "Are they the same kind of coins we found in the balance beam room?"

The where? Oh. Right. Does that feel like a year ago to anyone else? This is the longest day of my life! Doughty checks the minting of the coins, comparing it to the gold balanced over the abyss.

No worries. At our pace I figure it helps to eliminate as much back and forth as possible.
By the way, Doughty receives 21xp for his suffering.

Doughty looks over the coins as he gathers them into his sack. They aren't like the ones that were being guarded by the orcs: these are all unusual in shape, regular polygons with anywhere from three to nine sides. The images stamped on them give him the impression that each shape of coin was the special mint of a different ruler of some ancient dynasty of beings that look vaguely, but not quite, trollish in appearance. They must have been in the box for a long time, because even the coins are caked in dank dust.

Digsby scans around the hallway outside, finding no commotion—but he does notice a faint flicker of light coming from down the hall to the west, that he swears wasn't there before…

Doughty let's the others know his observations and uneducated conclusions as he scoops the coins up into a sack. He massages his new injuries afterwards, admitting he could call it a day at this point. Maybe we can find somewhere to sleep. Somewhere without the threat of trolls and ghouls, preferably.

"That's a decent idea," Digsby agrees, "To my thinking there's the chapel just down the hall, the house we found back on the surface, if it still stands after that fire in the attic, or we could head back to the ship and see about getting some medical attention as well." He glances back out the door and down the hall, "But we might have more immediate concerns. There's a dim light at the end of the hall here which I'm pretty sure wasn't there when we entered this room."

Doughty will peak around the corner and check out the light. Digsby, does it seem any closer now? This part of this maze seems to be pretty deserted, so not likely the trolls what lived here way back when. How about I... Err... Should we go check it out together or leave well enough alone? Might be more of our brother halflings looting this place before we get the chance.

"Any number of people might be looting the place," Weeba mutters. "But would it profit us to meet them?
