That's very nearly a perfectly average set of character stats you have there. Impressive!

Thanks! I think his background will be changed to sous chef, or something of that sort. Because a cookbook and various spices is super important to have at all times. And a metal helm can double as a cook pot for the group. :)

Just need to proofread it all and then name him. Then I'll work on the second character to build my stable.

Perfect. I've done all my test fights, double-checked the rules and Pulpatoon's cheat sheet, and poured over the module a few times. Your GM is good to go!

Once we have the initial PCs finalized for Rusty and Lobo89, we'll begin. In the meantime, feel free to populate the OOC thread with questions and comments about T&T. And remember, most of us are complete infants to this game, so all levels of confusion are acceptable. ;)

I made some edits to the character I posted above, including a name. I don't get how to calculate the adds. What do candles cost? Let me know if anything else I missed and I'll fix it tomorrow.

Looking forward to this!

Go ahead and take as many candles as you like, at 10 pts of weight per candle.

For melee combat, your personal adds are +1 for every point above 12 you have in each of ST, LK and DEX. Conversely, having below 9 in those attributes gives 'negative adds', or 'subtracts'. In the case of your halfling:

ST 5 (-4 adds) + LK 7 (-2 adds) + DEX 15 (+3 adds) = -3 adds

For ranged combat, you do the same thing but double the DEX modifier:
ST (-4) + LK (-2) + DEX (+6) = +0 adds

Thus: "Personal Adds (melee/ranged): -3/+0"

OH! I was thinking "D&D" and couldn't fathom adding DEX to my melee roll or STR to my DEX roll. And I keep looking for the "adds" for damage. :P

Thanks.
I'll edit the sheet and post it tomorrow, figuring out coin.

Yeah, it takes a bit to get used to all of the stuff that's close to but not quite D&D. The thing that took the longest to sink in for me was that 'hit points' aren't how many hits you can take before dying, but how many hits you deal in combat!

Just working on character creation again... :? :D
Anyhow, that means a candle weighs as much as a torch. Is that right? It doesn't seem right...

And with a STR 5, he cannot use a short sword (requires STR 7), correct?

Thanks folks!

Sorry, that was a mistyping error on my part. That should read 1 pt per candle, so take them in packs of 10.

The quick-start rulebook just says you can't use the weapon if you don't have the strength/dexterity, but I'll use the following rules (I don't have my full 5th edition book with me, so I've pulled these from 4th edition, which I believe is more or less the same):

- If you lack the minimum strength, then you suffer -1 STR every round of fighting, just like a wizard casting a spell with a STR cost of 1.

- If you lack the minimum dexterity, then you have to make a DEX saving roll to avoid hitting a comrade or yourself.

So... If Doughty (STR 5) uses the sword for 5 rounds of combat, he dies from exhaustion? Wicked! I'll keep it in mind so he doesn't over exert himself.

Thanks. Doughty is ready to set out on this adventure now... (I just started him with no coin since I don't recall what he started with and don't feel like recalculating it. I am sure he loses in the deal, though.)

Not necessarily dead, but certainly KO'ed from exhaustion (I think your CON also has to drop to 0 before you're dead). I think the full 4e-5e rule stops you once you reach STR 5, and you can't use the weapon after that, but I'm ignoring that as too fiddly to remember and too restrictive in telling you how to fight with your own weapon. If you want to fight yourself until you drop from a heart attack, I don't think anyone should stop you!

I'll just roll some dice and give him 1/3 of that: go ahead and take 20 gp.

Hey TBG! That looks good to me. We'll round your Charisma up to 9.

Give your dwarf warrior a basic background type: we've had a farmer, hypnotist, slave, cook, guardsmen, and so on. You'll have bonuses when performing actions within the purview of your background.

After that, just fill up his backpack with whatever adventuring equipment you'd like, within reason, free of charge. Your remaining 28gp is pocket money.
