00. Intro: Ewell [onlyme]

Please refrain from viewing the other "Introduction" threads!

---

Having lived a majority of his life in relative protection, Ewell quickly found himself in unfamiliar land. He spots a lightly forested area ahead; a welcomed sight as the trees will provide some much needed protection from the heat of the midday sun.

Ewell pushes on, deeper and deeper into the forest. The squawking of the native birds remind him that danger is not near and frustration begins to set in. More than simply surviving nature, he longed to survice an encounter with an actual monster. At current, he has only heard and read of such beasts... now, to actually confront and defeat one.

He catches himself in mid-thought.

The birds.

They're suddenly quiet.

Lance held tight, Ewell can’t help but feel a foreboding sense of danger. He scans his immediate surroundings and nothing appears out of place, though, the area of forest he currently finds himself in feels thicker than he previously thought and limits his vision somewhat.

The occasional rustling of leaves or other foliage is occasionally heard just off to his left.

The rapid sound of hastily retreating feet (or sets of feet) is heard. Whatever it is that is producing the sound seems to be making little effort to avoid making noise.

Ewell begins to walk that direction, sheild in one hand, lance in the other. He uses the lance to help push loose branches and shrubs aside, to give him a view of where he is walking. He calls toward the sound...

I do not like talking to myself. Show yourself.

Despite your best attempts, a response is not to be had. Instead, the footsteps become more fleeting.

Ewell walks toward the sound, but loses it. He realizes that adventure is just not his game. he walks back toward the main road...

ooc: Do you mean you give up your pursuit of the retreating creature(s), backtrack to where you were before you veered off course, and continue deeper into the forest? Or, are you leaving the forest all together? There's not really a 'main road' in the forest, more like a makeshift path.

To be honest, I dont know what I meant. As you might can tell by the time of that post, I dont recall even typing it  I also didnt know what time I crawled back to the hotel, either. Now I do...(according to my time setting it was 3am)

My guess is (and I figure I should stick with it since I typed it...) is that Ewell stops following the sound and retracks toward the direction he was originally going. (Unless that messes up your arc, of course... )

If something is so scared of him that it runs away that fast, not sure he would see much adventure in killing it...but he can turn around and go after it if the story dictates it...

Ewell, frustrated that the first living thing he's almost seen has escaped him, begins to retrace his steps.

He's shocked back to his sense by a deep, rough, not-quite-human voice. "Bwah! Stupid human probably think Krul run from him." Hesitant laughter is heard following, before stopping abruptly.

Ewell looks up to see an imposing humanoid figure leaning agasint a tree roughly twenty feet away. He estimates that this creature is at least his height, but definitely has a weight advantage on him, even if it wasn't wearing a makeshift suit of plate mail. This primative humanoid is imposing, with its grey-green skin, snout, canine teeth and a muscular physique. The deadly looking two-handed sword, resting point down in the ground in front of this beast doesn't help make it appear any less intimidating.

Two similar appearing creatures, just on a smaller scale, stand in front of this beast. These creatures do not wear armor, nor do they have any weapons. In fact, once the intial shock of the booming laughter wears off, it appears these two creatures are wearing collars with chains that trace back to the hand of what is obviously their master.

"Redeem yourselves... kill the miscreant!" the massive opponent shouts as he releases the end of chain from each that he was holding.

The released creatures stand momentarily, unmoving.

"NOW!" booms the commanding voice.

With that, they rush to engage you.

Ewell clinches his lance and yells... I have no quarrel with the two of you. Stand aside. looking toward the leader...If you want to fight, let us do so with honor. Do not cower behind others...

I will be flying most of the day. If they continue attacking, you can npc a couple rounds of lance blows. The two smaller ones until run away or out, then up toward him. I would prefer to conversate with him unless he rages toward me.. If he calls off his lackeys, then I supposed I need to wait to roleplay the conversation...thanks. Even if I have cell coverage, I wouldnt be able to roll the dice, just make a couple line post...

The two advancing creatures pay your words no mind as the continue to close on you, rage fills their eyes.

I'll need an initative roll (remember, it's a modified d10 roll; see here: '01. Surprise and Initiative').

---

I would much rather you control your character, so I'm fine holding off on further actions until you're able to resume. We've already progressed a bit today, so we're fine.

Edit:
onlyme wrote:I wouldnt be able to roll the dice, just make a couple line post.
By the way, I know that I said I would prefer you control your own character, because I do, but by that I mean the actual decision making process. I would be more than able to make die rolls on your behalf, but would require your direction before doing so. You earlier stated "you can npc a couple rounds of lance blows" so you've clearly indicated your course of action. Therefore, I will complete the first round and await your response before proceeding further.

Reason: Per your directive, I will complete the first round of action.

The two advancing creatures advance on you with malice. "Olog make you pay!" it manages to crudely spit out in the common tongue. It decides to use the length of chain around his neck as a weapon, grabbing a length of it and swinging it overhead a few times in an attempt to both taunt its target and get a feel for its weight. Fortunately, you were able to time the rhythm of Olog's practice swings, which he didn't vary, and its attempt to bludgeon you misses very badly.

The second foe witnesses his ally fumble around with a makeshift weapon. "Olog, you idiot! Let Smark show you how to do it." He lunges at you, attempting to rake you with its claws.

In one fluid motion, you avoid this second lunging foe and bring your lance up and into the chain-wielding opponent, skewering it... badly (D11). It collapses dead, its body sliding off the end of your lance as it crashes to the ground.

---

Smark's eyes grow wide and, at least for a moment, it appears to be reconsidering its current course of action. He whips around, preparing to lunge at you again, clearly believing its armored master to be more of a threat than you are.

Ewell moves the lance back into position and thrusts toward the remaining lackey. The attemptn was halfassed apparently. rolled a five damage erred.

Ewell, hoping to make quick work of his current foe, moves his lance back into position and thrusts. His ugly adversary slaps the piercing attempt aside with the chain still fasted to his neck. Having dodged successfully survived an attack, longer than poor Olog managed, Smark feels confident enough to taunt: "Smark not be as easy to kill as Olog was. He weak." Ewell is almost distracted enough by Smark's conversation to allow the beast to rake him with its claws. Narrowly missing, Smark quips: "You not be so lucky next time."

Though fully engaged with your current adversary, whose chain whipping around makes a contant clinking sound, you believe you hear another metal sound, only this sound is fleeting.

---

Smark readies himself to attack you with his claws again.

I don't quite understand what you mean by the sound he hears. It is moving away or the sound comes and goes? Thanks

Would Ewell be able to tell if it was the plate wearing thug by glancing that direction? He should be in sight of it while fighting the others.

Ewell, while still engaged in melee with Smark, allows himself a quick glance over to where the apparent leader had been leaning against the tree. It's no longer there, leaving Ewell to deduce that the fleeting metal sounds he heard was the material from the leader's makeshift plate mail as he left the scene of the encounter.

The plate mail sound can still faintly be heard, but it becomes more distant with each passing moment.
