I just sent a PM to Computer + 1. I am basically read to kick things off again, but the reboot is obviously dependent upon his having a new character rolled up.

Soon, guys. Soon.

So are we going to begin in the middle of the battle we were looking at, or rebooting (?) somewhere else to re-engage?

I will ask that all players reply to this message once they are ready to continue. Once all six players have signed off... game on!

Ready.

Er... well, I'm ready, but I'm going to jump over to the other thread right quick and read the last few pages again to make sure I'm up to speed on where we left off.

This

If Comp+1's new character is umm, say, less noble than his previous one... is he still going to be walking with Ewell to meet the foreign party?

Awww... I'm going to miss the Cavalier/Paladin banter! :)

I think I would have a difficult time pulling off playing either class properly.

I will still be playing a paladin, just one with a different name and background.

I'm not super strict in this department, but most paladin characters will follow the same "mold" pretty closely since they're all obligated to adhere to the same code of conduct.

---

I am thinking it will be beneficial to rewind the game to the point where the intial discovery of the advancing party was first made:

Approximately five hundred feet from where you are, and advancing in your direction, is a small band of humanoids.

This will allow for some quick banter and allow everyone a chance to reestablish their characters. All characters are obviously free to duplicate their actions if their intentions remain unchanged, but that seems like a logical starting off point since it will allow you a bit of time before action must be taken.

Good to hear. I was afraid you might have been too much in awe of Ewell's glory... :D

As would I. Reading through the various threads to this game last night was fun. With all the strong, unique personalities in the group, I can hardly wait to see how you all handle the current situation you're in. :D

Quite the departure from the thief you typically play, eh? ;)

Which is so funny, because I NEVER played the thief class back in the day.

It's grown on me since I picked up Till.

As much as I'm not a big fan of the multiclass, I'm thinking I'll start exploring what one can do when mixing the thief skills with another class. The Tomb Of Horrors game is a starting point, mixing the thief with a MU. I think there are some great spells a thief might use that will really just be great for helping him be a better thief. Easy to see a character in a book might do such a thing. I was a bit disappointed with Lieber for not doing that with the Gray Mouser, even though he started off as a wizard's apprentice.

I think playing a ranger as a bit of a loner or one who is not used to spending a lot of time in civilized communities is an easy character concept for me to grasp.

I'm probably going to tone down my activity as well... at least a little bit. ;)

You'll still be able to check in daily, right?

while reading the rules again, I noticed these:
dmw71 wrote:Note that critical hits and misses apply to both player characters and monsters alike.
Natural 20
On a roll of a natural 20, the attack will do maximum damage and enable the character a second attack roll. If this second attack roll results in a hit, the already maximum damage will be multiplied by 1.5 (maximum damage + 0.5 maximum damage). If this additional roll is a second natural 20, the already maximum damaged is doubled (maximum damage * 2).
Natural 1
On a roll of a natural 1, some unfortunate event happens to the character who rolled it which will result in the loss of the next round's attack (the DM will decide the exact event when a monster fumbles; the player can elaborate on what happens when their character fumbles). As with a natural 20, a second attack roll is required when a natural 1 is rolled. If this second attack roll is also a miss, there is a 50% chance of the weapon breaking (for each magical bonus the weapon may possess, this percentage of breaking is reduced by 10%). If this second attack roll is also a natural 1, the chance of the of the weapon breaking is 100% (although, magical weapons are still entitled to the cumulative 10% breakage reduction per magical plus).
I dont recall remembering the nat 1 could lead to breaking the weaponry. I better make sure to load the roller's die.
