Re: 00. Intro: Jareth, Kaltar, Ewell [Comp +1, saalaria, onl

#21 Post by dmw71 »

The wolf and its pesky companions with their short goblin blades continue their hurried attacks. The pair of goblins flanking Jareth prove to once again be troublesome; Jareth is able to successfully dodge the first stabbing attempt, but the second manages to catch him with a damaging blow (D4). Meanwhile, Kaltar is able to successfully avoid the quick slash the goblin attacking him is able to muster. The wolf, clearly limited by its combined wounds, isn't able to penetrate Ewell's defenses.

Ewell matches the wolf's lack of success, but a spear launched from behind him catches the wolf and sends it toppling over.

Kaltar's attack goes here:
[update] Having dispatched of the goblin responsible for releasing the wolf last round, Kaltar surveys the remaining scene and finds the wolf has been killed, but quickly realizes that Jareth is being flanked by a pair of opponents. Jareth's burden is quickly halved as Kaltar manages to crush an unsuspecting goblin with his mace.[/update]

I will need declared actions, initiatives and attack/damage rolls from all for the next round.

Sorry lost track - didn't realise you were waiting for me!

Kaltar, gritting his teeth through the pain of the shortsword wound, makes a mental note to be more observant in future battles. He swings for the nearest goblin if the untyer is down - if not its that one again:

Mace Initiative [1d10+7] = 9+7 = 16

Mace Action To Hit [1d20] = 18 Dam [1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7

Then for next round he will continue with the same one if its still up - if not he will swing at whichever is closest preferring the one that stabbed him over any other:

Mace Initiative [1d10+7] = 5+7 = 12

Mace Action To Hit [1d20] = 15 Dam [1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3

Now that the wolf has expired, Ewell will seek out the cowardly goblins. His adrenaline in overdrive due to the bite, but also the disgust he feels for monsters who kept a chained wolf for protection...

He reacts instinctively to focus on the goblin not engaged by Kaltar or Jareth...
Modified initiative (using lance): [1d10+6] = 2+6 = 8

He thrusts the lance into the gut of the goblin...

lance to hit (+3 str bonus): [1d20+3] = 18+3 = 21 , lance damage on foot 1d6 (+5 Cav and str bonus): [1d6+5 ] = 6+5 = 11

I dont think there would be much goblin gut left after that one...

Jareth, close to passing out from his wounds, musters up his remaining strength and attacks one of the two goblins he faces.

Initiative:
[1d10] = 8+5=13

Attack:
[1d20] = 17+2= 19

Damage:
[1d8+3] = 3+3 = 6

Two goblins remain. Still speaking in a language unfamiliar to any of you: "Pellentesque elit metus, laoreet vitae." says one of them. "In odio nibh, faucibus lacinia." responds the other. They rush the party, hatred fills their eyes.

Ewell acts at the same time as the goblin rushing him; his lance skewering the engaging foe, its goblin blade falls from its hand as its body goes limp and it crumbles to the ground. The second goblin waves its sword in Jareth's general direction, but that will be the last action it takes. Kaltar clubs this second goblin with his mace, stunning it, and it is easily finished off by Jareth.

(+60xp each)

Four goblin bodies and the slain wolf are all that remain from your current battle.

Weary and wounded from your battle, you fear all is not over with the sound of something(s) approaching from behind you!

Edit: I wrote out an action and when I entered it I say Dave's post about sounds from behind. I edited my actions as thus:

Jareth spins around with his sword and shield at the ready. He whispers a silent prayer and prepares himself to meet his maker.

Before you stand an odd pairing: an elf and a halfling. The elf, hands empty, speaks first: "Hello and well met."

"well met indeed. Who might you two companions be? We hope you have no connection with these foul goblins but I am thinking that would be extremely unlikely."
Kaltar drops his mace to his side to show his peaceful intent.

Ewell looks around to confirm no trickery is afoot. He responds with a laugh...

No way... These two are too scrawny to be in with that lot.

He then becomes a bit more serious. Name's Ewell, from Alton. Curiousity led me here. What praytell brought you to this beautiful clearing?

Jareth feels relieved that the newcomers appear friendly. He drops the point of his sword into the earth and sinks down to his knees in prayer.
Dear Lord we thank ye for watching over us and protecting us. We also pray that ye look over the souls of those departed so that they may find peace in yer mercy.

Prayer complete Jareth stands up and sheathes his sword.

Well this seems to be a popular spot. Thanks to ye Master Ewell fer yer help. And greetings to you two new arrivals. Have ye encountered any of these creatures in this area?
