Quest # 9.5 "Missing Kids?"

#1 Post by OGRE MAGE »

Missing Kids
Waterday, 24th of Reaping
Midday, Hot, Muggy

Avalaa sprints from the tavern, rounding up his large dog and looking for any others that might still be around. He knows that a group of hunters went east down the beach a few hours ago, but he doesn't know how far away they are by now.

He does spot Chauncey and Lightfinger still in town and he tries to get their attention, telling them about the lost children.

He doesn't particularly like children, come to think of it, he's never really known any, but he supposes letting them perish in the wilderness is in bad form. He'll follow after Avalaa to see what there is to be done.

Avaala

Avaala stops when he sees Monocar and Alordan. He tries to recruit them to head back west and look for the children.

"Children. What do children do? What are their peculiar habits? I imagine they're holed up in their shacks studying? Or perhaps vivisecting an animal for research? Or burning something down," suggests Chauncey.

When he hears word of the missing kids, he steps up his pace. Where were they? Where did they go? How long ago did they vanish?

He glances at the ship, wishing he had time to stop.

Avalaa rounds up Chauncey, Lightfinger, Alordan, Monocar, and Luther as the latter 3 hurriedly make their way back into town. Very little detail is known about this sudden mission and Chauncey doesn't help clear things up with his limited knowledge of what a child actually is. The adequate wizard unintentionally reveals a bit more about his own tortured upbringing to his friends as he offers to help out.

They assemble on the west end of town and get ready to head up the beach in the opposite direction of the river. There are plenty of random tracks in the sand leading in that direction, making it hard to deduce if any of them were left by the missing children.

Actions?

As always, speak up if you haven't yet and want to go along.

Avaala

Looking at his friends, and in something of a panic for the children, Avaala says, "I've done a lot of things in my life, but no hunting. Can any of you make heads or tails of these tracks?" Avaala keeps heading west, slower now, hoping to see tracks smaller than the rest.

Avaala

Avaala quickly tells Luther, and anyone else within loud earshot, everything he was told about where they might be. He doesn't mention Randall, but does say he heard the kids were scavenging for coconuts.

Lightfinger raises an eyebrow.

"Scavenging for coconuts," He repeats, I do hope they have not befallen the monster Troll I've been hearing of. Monkoons would be ever so more pleasant.

Luther

Luther kneels briefly, studying the churned-up sand. Tracks are too messed up to tell me anything- let's head down the beach.

Luther leads the way, striding quickly along the wet, packed sand near the water. He divides his attention between the sand in front of him and the sea, dreading what he'll see if the troll has the kids.

His voice is a growl of fury. If it is that bastard troll, we hit him as hard as possible- genuine Lightning War style. You boys that are good with your bows, keep putting arrows in him. I'm going in for close combat- if you think you have a shot, take it! Don't worry about me. If you've got magic, USE IT.

Something's different about Luther- his posture, how he moves his head, maybe the set of his jaw.... something. The thick hair along his arms seems to bristle and stand up, his eyes narrow and gleam with a cold yellow light.
Expect Nothing, Appreciate Everything.

Lightfinger backs away from the Bear Man a step or 2.

Yes, well, you see, I'm not much of a fighter, the Halfling begins, but seeing Luther paying him no mind whatsoever, he tries to melt to the rear and unfurls his sling.

Missing Kids!
Waterday, 24th of Reaping
Early Afternoon, Hot, Muggy, Buggy

Luther scratches himself a little before hustling into action. He searches the area hard, trying to find evidence of recent movements. He spots plenty of tracks from the smaller feet of children, but they are scattered all around this beach and lead off in every direction. He is happy to report that he spots no sign of the dangerous troll anywhere on this side of town. Jack suddenly appears out of nowhere, inquiring about the groups next adventure. Raythan also shows interest in following along. Alordan reminds the group of the fate of the Owen, the islands carpenter, who is still being held captive by the Monkoons.

Once the group is fully assembled, Avalaa reveals all he knows about the mission, which admittedly isn't a lot. The large group begins following the ranger down the beach towards the west. After a little while, the tracks begin to thin out some and Luther thinks he's found 3 sets of distinct little tracks in the sand.

Following the footprints due west for about another hour or so, the group stumbles across a small, neatly stacked pile of a dozen coconuts sitting on the sand, right at the edge of the jungle. The coconuts must have been picked up off of the ground or plucked out of the surf as none of them look recently harvested.

Alordan sees the smaller tracks continue further west up the beach past this area.

Actions?

Jack 10/10 CL, DM, RM, 1/1 first

Not a big fan of the nasty disease carrying little vermin the holy champion none the less follows the others up the beach, lathering his skin in the insect repellant he previously made to keep the mosquito and fly menace to a minimum.

Flail and shield in hand, bow across his back and Longsword at his waist the half-orc lopes up the beach slowly searching for these infernal creatures missing from the township. Why anyone would bring such monsters along to such a dangerous place he cannot fathom, his guess irresponsible parenting, but the holy champion has always found these humans ways strange and making little common sense.
Greys Campaign.
