Chapter 24 - The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, part 1
Re: Chapter 24 - The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, part 1
"Oh, right. Not plants. Plant-animals," says Ulster in Common. He translates their response, then answers in their click-clacking and chest thumping communication.
"We are from outside. Not with other tribe. We our own tribe. We seek big monsters that have come from this metal fortress into our land. They kill our people and foul our lands. We want them to stop. Have not met other tribe. Other tribe good or bad? Where are they?" If he can, Ulster tries to get the veggie creatures to describe—or better yet, draw a map of—what they know of the ship.

Re: Chapter 24 - The Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, part 1
The veggiepygmies seem confused by this, motioning to each other and grunting things like, "What is this outside?", "Metal fortress?", and "How come they not look like us?" and so forth. The leader turns to Ulster and begins his gesturing, chest beating, and grunting, Other tribe have no green (pointing to green splotches, almost like moss on a tree or algae on a pond, on their bodies) Green and brown better than just brown. So we take just brown food! (The other plant creatures whoop and beat their "chests" at this.)
He draws a rough circle and divides it into four quadrants. He designates the center of one quadrant as green and brown area and another as just brown area.
He points to the lower left quadrant, indicating that that is this one and it is green-brown territory and points to the upper left and indicates that it is the just brown area (with what looks like a spit). He says they stay in their own area.

Grimes - Fighter
Grimes stands by looking about, and a thought suddenly comes into his head. "Hey, is there anything we can do to help these things, and perhaps they can help us get closer to an where we need to be. Maybe they can explain what they know about the odd surroundings here."
OOC: Not sure what we could do to help them, but aside from talking to them, maybe we could help them in some way and they could help us get closer to solving this mystery - or at least help us fight things we come up against.

"Good idea," says Ulster.
"Is there anything we can do for you?" he asks the plant men. "Why do you fight with the other plant men?"
This is an allegory on racism just waiting to happen. Paging Dr. Seuss and Frank Gorshin!

The vegemites reply, There enough food for only green and brown. Just brown get more food, green and brown die. So we take food and just brown will die. We deserve food because we better.
If you want to help, give us food or get rid of just brown people so we get food. He sniffs at you. You meat so you good food. Too bad you not really mean help.

Algrim gets a bit anxious at the idea of being eaten as food he steps out into the hallway acting as a guard.

"Maybe we should try to find the brown veggie men?" asks Ulster in Common. "If we can get there in about twenty minutes, I can talk to them too. I wonder if these veggiemen would agree to a conference with the other veggiemen?"

We get food from below, says the lead vegemite. He looks at you quizzically. If other tribe not send you, what do you want?
A turn is 10 minutes. It hasn't been half an hour since you performed the Speak with Plants ceremony.

"Below? What's below?" asks Ulster.
I figured it hasn't been half an hour, but I was wondering if it had been more like one or two minutes. If most of the half hour is left, maybe we could still talk with the brown veggiemen.
