Chapter 23 - Bissel Again

Outside the fortress...

Scott the twenty foot tall cyclops replies, Big drakes who steal sheep. Manticores who steal sheep too.

Oh, and traveling adventurers who attack Scott for no reason. Me glad you not like them.

Last time I say hi to group of men with swords, they ambush me. After I say hi and be all nice! Scott tentpeg five and rest run away. Jerks.

And people wonder why Scott's kind live away from people.

Grimes - Fighter

Grimes nods at Scott and says "You don't have to worry about us, big fella. We just finished making all that snow and ice go away, so we're not here to fight, but to get back to Bissel quickly!"

Grimes will retire for the evening, but occasionally glancing out to see what Scott is up to. As far as guard duty, Grimes will pull whatever shift he's needed on.

During the night, you are woken by what you initially think is the sound of the world ending. It turns out that Scott is a snorer. Sleep is poor to say the least.

When you finally wake in the morning, the cyclops has departed. Apparently he slept well enough and moved on. A dead deer, gutted and hanging, appears to be a parting gift for you. The morning air is cool and dew covers everything, but already the heat of the sun is making its presence known and you are certain that it will be a warm one.

The party breaks their fast on venison. There is more than enough -- the doe could have fed twice the size of the party.

Dieter's tower is shrunk again and you set off. It's a hard walk, with lots of elevation changes, but by evening you are nearing the end of the mountains and can see the sea in the distance, which you know will lead you to Bissel. You are in the foothills, heavily wooded, following an animal path. It is likely that you will make the shore by dark at this rate.

random encounter [1d6] = 2

You are given pause when [4d6] = 12 x 10 120 yards away you see, in a clearing, two beasts. Each has a head of lion, goat, and red dragon, including the wings of a dragon, the front portion of the body from a lion, and the rear portion from a goat. One turns his dragon head, which scream when it sees you!

Hmm.. not sure if they mean to attack or not. Dieter will stop and slowly pull out his wand of frost out but do nothing more.

Grimes, now invisible, steps from behind Furuk and begins to take a flanking position to the right, hoping to be in position to attack from the side when they advance. If they can see invisible, we'll learn soon enough.

Castinus, out of magic arrows, fires off a pair of ordinary arrows with his bow of doubling.

INITIATIVE baddies [1d6] = 4 party [1d6] = 3

The chimera separate coming at you from two angles (2 o'clock and 10 o'clock) and pause at 50'. They both breathe fire on you! Chimera 1 [3d6] = 10
Chimera 2 [3d6] = 6
Furuk save vs breath [1d20] = 4 fail
Dieter save vs breath [1d20] = 12 success
Castinus save vs breath [1d20] = 11 fail
Grimes save vs breath [1d20] = 3 fail
Dandy save vs breath [1d20] = 3 fail

Fighting through the fire, the party responds!
Dieter can only get one of the chimeras in his area of effect dmg [3d10] = 17 Chimera save [1d20] = 6, but the hailstones beat it out of the sky. Chimera1 is damaged but still alive!
Dandy hits the other one (he also can't get both) dmg [6d8] = 32 chimera save [1d20] = 11 and it is forced to the ground by the searing flame!
Grimes holds.
Castinus bow of doubling [1d20+3] = 2+3 = 5, [1d20+3] = 16+3 = 19 hits Chimera1 with the second dmg [1d8] = 3.
Furuk xbow [1d20+2] = 17+2 = 19 hits Chimera1 also dmg [1d8] = 4 further wounding it.

Both chimeras are on the ground, both are about fifty feet away from you and each other!

As he sprints away invisible, he says "I'm taking the one on the right!" (2 o'clock, I assume)

Grimes will try to flank it and cast web on it as he approaches.
