The party heads back out to the Temple, with their new companion Zef and their porters/torchbearers Jupe, Pete, and Bob.

random encounter [1d12] = 6 [1d6] = 1

On the road, you see a large wagon pulled by a steed. A stout man rides the buckboard and four men at arms follow and surround the wagon, guarding it. As you approach, the stout man says, Well met, travellers. I am Martin, a travelling salesman. If you are in no hurry, I can show you my wares. The lead man-at-arms eyes you all suspiciously, and his men keep lookout for bandits.

Odo also scans the woods for signs of bandits. A fake "traveling salesman" would be a clever ruse to stop unwary travelers, he thinks.

"Hail and greetings! What have you for sale?"

This is Martin's Marvelous Mixtures! he declares as he alights from the wagon, and opens the side jumper. I have potions and salves of all sorts! Excellent pricing and discounts for buying in bulk! Heroism, Shape Changing, Healing, Gaseous Form, Invisibility, Longevity, and even Love.

Of course, you don't look like you are looking for love,
he concludes with a smile.

The side of the cart is full of bottles, vials, flasks, ampules, flagons, and phials, made of glass, crystal, metal, and even stone in specially made holders. The liquids you can see range from clear to colored to cloudy to bespeckled to viscous. Every one is stoppered (and sealed with wax) and clearly labeled in common. He has a few that are not sealed and the labels are marked with "tester" on them. There is every potion you've ever heard of, each called "Martin's whatever" (as in "Martin's Invisibility Potion" or "Martin's Phial of Love").

The guards tense in case of trickery. You can tell by looking at them, they would make considerable foes.

Martin smiles broadly, his cheeks ruddy and bulbous, eyes sparkling: I will accept offers. Prices starting at 100gp each.

Thurwin - Wizard

Thurwin nods politely at the guards and then the merchant. He raises an eyebrow and says "Invisibility? Hmmm... how much for one of those, friend?"

Odo Bracegirdle

"Those all sound useful—well, all but the philter of love, I'd say. That can only be trouble. But invisibility, healing, gaseous form, shape changing—those would be handy. What do you ask for them?"

Calthas looks at the potions with an inquisitive eye. "Are you a salesman or an alchemist? If you only sell them, who made them in the first place?" he asks, suspicious.

Gentlemen, gentlemen, relax. The potions run from 100 to three hundred gold pieces, although I should note that they are each one draught containers not the usual three. A quick scan tells you that these potions are indeed smaller.

He looks at Calthas, I have a source for my wares in Greyhawk city and he is indeed an alchemist of some reknown: one Master Eli Lilly. Perhaps you've heard of him? he asks with raised eyebrow.

If you wish a tasting, I have these testers for you. He waves at the "test" bottles. Each has a dropper. I allow a single drop test, so that you may ensure potency. He grins broadly. He appears to have six of each potion, not including the testers.

    Clairaudience
    Clairvoyance
    Climbing

"Too rich for me," Zef thinks to himself. He watches the road for signs of trouble while the others barter.

"You said something about a bulk discount?" ventures Odo. "How about buy ten, get one free? Where we're going, potions are better than gold. Oh, dear, that's not the kind of thing you're supposed to say when negotiating, is it?"

Odo would like to buy:

Etherealness x 2: 200
Clairvoyance x 2: 200
Extra Healing x 2: 400
Heroism: x2: 200
Gaseous Form: 300
Flying: 200
Total: 1500 gp

Thurwin - Wizard

Thurwin will try a sample of the invisibility potion. Assuming it works, he smiles and says "Excellent. I'll take two of these, please. And one of speed as well."

He'll pay them in gems (9 of his 100GP spinels - deducted)

He'll tuck the potions away safely in his pouch and robe.

"Eli Lilly? I don't know him." says Calthas, still on doubt regarding the seller's honesty. He does not have any coin with him, so will not take a great interest in the transactions between the seller and his party mates.

Tavin - Monk

OCC: The Encyclopedia Magica indicates that potions of healing are only for "warrior" classes. Does Tavin qualify? If he does he will take 2 x healing and 1 x herosim, else he will take 3x healing. He will pay with 4 x 50gp zircons and a fine gold chain with fire amulet worth 100gp.

Very interesting indeed....

Calmert: Cleric

Calmert would like to purchase 3 Healing (the merchant may not have enough inventory for this), 2 Extra-Healing, and a Giant Strength.

Upon confirmation, coins will be deducted from Calmert's character sheet.
