"Oh, this is me, isn't it?" interjects Odo. He checks the door for traps, then shrugs and steps out of the way.

No traps are detected, so the door is opened.

Image

The corridor ahead seems familiar. You can make out the huge room that makes up the centre of this level. To the north, there is a door and a place where the hallway connects with where you've made previous progress.

No hint of red-caped bugbear, fleeing or otherwise.

South door in 204 next? If we're agreed, Odo will check it for traps.

Calthas agrees to backtrack to room 204. He will stay behind a few steps while the door is being opened.

Thurwin - Wizard

Thurwin nods in agreement, and he'll stay back just a bit to cover our rear as the others open the door.

Odo shrugs again. "Your guess is as good as mine," he says, standing out of the way.

Odo finds no traps and steps aside. Effric the druid opens the door.

A loud clatter fills the air and you look down and see a number of metal sticks that were leaning so that when the door was opened they would fall and sound a crude alarm.

Image

The room beyond is a 10x10 chamber. It is lit by a lantern and a burning torch, the latter on the east wall. The room contains a couch, writing table and chair, small brazier, and a brass-bound chest; on the table are quills, an inkpot, and a roll of parchment.

You have just enough time to take that all in when the lights go out.

You hear the door across from you open!

Effric slams the door shut "It must be magical darkness!" He backs off and readies his scimitar for who or whatever might emerge from the room.

Odo quickly looses an arrow toward the center of the darkness.

Calmert: Cleric

Calmert has seen this trick before! Before his companions can shut the door or move, a booming voice emits from the little Gnome, "Do not fear this conjurer of tricks! St. Cuthbert shine bright!" the Gnome casts Light on his shield exterior (not the side his arm-holds are), and charges into the darkness following Odo's arrow! The 'guard of St. Cuthbert' on Calmert's shield blasts light into the darkness, pointing where the Gnome charges, shining light in the direction for the rest of the party to see.

Hello Darkness, My Old Friend - Round 1

INITIATIVE baddies [1d6] = 2 party [1d6] = 3
The party has initiative!

The cleric casts his spell and his shield lights like a beacon. A beacon of hope. (ooc: gah, I have to stop reading comic books!) It cuts into the darkness but does not dispel it. The gnome waits a moment.
Odo's arrow lands with a solid thunk followed by a grunt. Calthas longbow into darkness [1d20-2] = 8-2 = 6, dmg [1d8] = 5 Calthas hears his shaft clatter in the room beyond.
Thurwin, Effric, and Tavin hesitate, Effric trying to slam the door shut but the diminutive cleric races past.
Calmert's beacon-shield illuminates a bugbear, arrow sticking from his chest, coming through from the south. Bror (autopilot) shrugs and charges, Bror's "glimmer" [1d20+2] = 13+2 = 15, dmg [1d6+2] = 2+2 = 4 Glimmer finding flesh in the beast. Sean charges in too, PC attack [1d20] = 6 his longsword missing.

The foul beast surprise [1d6] = 2 is surprised by the incoming cleric and holds his attack, the bite of the axe reviving him.

From the darkness, beyond, you hear in Common, Dammit, Garitruegek, I told you to wait for them to come into this room! You hear the slow somber prayer of a blessing being cast.

Bror Troll-Hunter 12/12

Sean 13/19

7 +1

OOC: Sorry folks, with Calmert charging in I decided to hold the door slam. Otherwise he'd be stuck in there and you'd waste a round re-opening the door. That's what happens with a brave cleric and, well let's just say "not quite as brave", companions. ;)
