Tavin will take the flash and spread the oil near the door/entry. I can strike up a torch to ignite this but who want to act as the bait?

Thurwin - Wizard

Thurwin smiles cheerfully and says "I'm up to being the bait!" He points to the door and says hold on... someone loosen the spike if I can get it to stop fussing."

Thurwin will say in goblin (or orcish if no response) "Hold on, I'm here to help. Stop bashing the door." If the bashing stops, let's yank the spike and Thurwin will say "Come on now!" and then he'll stand back to allow the trap to be sprung.

OOC: Taking a leap in hoping whatever it is if intelligent it will understand goblin or orcish. I'm thinking it's Mr Troll and he's a bit surly...

"I'm not sure that's a good idea," says Odo. He readies his bow in case whatever is thumping against the door thinks hobbits are a tasty snack.

"Well... I thought it was a good idea, but the last time Odo thought something wasn't a good idea, it wasn't." the Gnome trails off in thought.

If Odo (or anyone else) had misgivings, then Thurwin will wait. Whatever it is is likely coming one way or another.

Calthas find nothing to add to what has already been said, and prepares his bow.

"Let's try talking first," suggests Odo.

"Hey, you there! What's so important to get to this side of the door for?"

Oil is poured and traps are set. Thurwin prepares to remove the spike when Odo calls out. They wait.

There's a loud grunt and then there's another slam at the door. The whole frame seems to rattle!

Thurwin winces as the door shudders. "This thing is coming one way or another. Shall we wait till it bursts through and then set the oil ablaze? Whatever it is, it is pretty strong."

Thurwin offers to hold and toss the torch, freeing up the fighting folks to do their thing.

"I agree! It sounds like 'IT' is coming through the door, so we better put our plan into action!"

Bror "Aye. Tellin yah it's trollie er an ogre in there, let it break it's way free no need fer someone riskin their hide as bait."

"Now is as good a time as any to take on this thing, whatever it is." says Calthas, more than ever ready to use his bow.

" '...and that was the last thing he ever said,' " quips Odo.

"Me, I'd run away and spike all the doors between us and whatever's bashing that door down. Why fight today what you can fight tomorrow? That's my motto! But if you lads really want a fight, I'm ready."

Odo preaches sage advice, but it is too late. The door gives with a final smash and an ogre of prodigious size and substantial rage bursts through.

Neither side is surprised!

Wide eyed and needing no prompt, Thurwin lights the oil and flees!

Bror stays where he is waiting for the ogre to make it through the flames before he dares attack it. "Didna say it'd be trollie or an ogre? I shoulda bet on it coulda made some coin." axe in hand tensions rising "Smelly brute too aint it."
