The diagonal turns south and then opens to a large room with high ceilings.

This oddly shaped chamber is crammed with containers of all sorts—large clay jars, boxes, barrels, crates, chests, sacks, casks, bales, bags, hampers, and others. Some are obviously broken or empty, but many seem full. Bales contain black cloth and some finished garments (cloaks, capes, kilts, etc.). Scores of arrows, quarrels, javelins, spears, and several dozen hand weapons are in the 10' x 30'alcove to the northeast. At the south end of the place are boxes and several huge pottery jars, but near them are three humanoid skulls and a few bones.

Question: This room is crammed with items in apparently good condition - unlike the room with the fire damage and trash? Does this room appear to be frequently visited and stocked/used?

Thurwin quietly says "I think this place is a storeroom, so let's look sharp. We don't want anyone walking in on us." And he nods his head toward the pile of bones "that looks out of place to me, so let's be careful, eh? Might be a critter lurking behind those barrels or nearby."

OOC: Thurwin will examine some of the crates nearby, being careful to keep listening for anyone who might be approaching...

Calmert's spell reveals no magical items, at least from what can be seen for his position.

Thurwin examines the nearby containers, finding flour, salt, and dried and salted meats, all in good condition. He's opening another container when, from above, a creature springs down on Pax! Surprise roll 1 or 2 [1d6] = 1 Surprise in the supplies room!

The dwarf is set upon by a creature with a body like a wasp-waisted, barrel-chested hound and a gorilla's head! All four claws come down su-monster claws [1d20] = 17, [1d20] = 11, [1d20] = 15, [1d20] = 16 and bite [1d20] = 13 dmg [1d4] = 2, [1d4] = 4, [1d4] = 1, [2d8] = 11 damaging the dwarf severely and the bite ends him. The creature turns to look at the remaining party members!

What's the rate of fire for bows in LL/AEC?

INITIATIVE baddies [1d6] = 4 party [1d6] = 6 The party gets a break!

Thurwin's call for withdrawal are too late, as Bror and Tavin leap to battle!
Calmert begins his blessing on the party (hmm, it'd be interesting if that affected initiative rolls...)
Odo's shot flies wide!
Bror feels the shock of the blow up his arm as he deals the first strike!
Tavin leaps at the creature but his blow misses!
Calthas Calthas longbow blessed [1d20+3] = 9+3 = 12, dmg [1d8+1] = 6+1 = 7 sneaks a shaft in there, hitting the monster.
Effric comes steps in Effric scimitar blessed [1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16, dmg [1d8+2] = 3+2 = 5 and deals a blow!
Sean also wades in Sean blessed melee [1d20+1] = 7+1 = 8 but can't burst through the crowd.

The creature Su-monster claws [1d20] = 1, [1d20] = 11, [1d20] = 3, [1d20] = 17 and bite [1d20] = 11 hits Sean once dmg [1d4] = 1. The brave man-at-arms says, It's only a flesh wound, and keeps on!
