Now the party moves swiftly through the corridor.

Har, the dwarf, leads the way. Beside him are the two clerics; Brother Dumphey to his left and Brother Huxley to his right, their torches held high, sputter and smoke. The rest of the adventurers --Coat of Nine-Hides, the waifish beastmaster; Ilthuin, the elf; Gebhart, the medium; Boo, the gnome-- follow behind. And bringing up the rear, lugging a 10-foot pole like it was no more heavier than a gentleman’s cane, is Tun, the ogre-kin.

They follow the route showed to them earlier by their kobold escort and in nowise divert from their path. And in minutes they arrive at the threshold of the mushroom cave (X).

They stand at the top of a set of stairs that descend into an enormous cavern. The ceiling of the cavern is hidden in darkness, too high to be seen. Likewise, the northern wall of the cavern is too far off and indiscernible. Just beyond the stairs, below them in the darkness of the cavern, the party can just barely see odd, round shapes looming in the shadows. As the adventurers inch their way carefully to the edge of the stairs, they get a better look at the ‘odd, round shapes’ and realize that they are actually the tops of giant mushrooms!

Just as they reach the mushroom cave, Tun hears something from behind. Something is following them, coming up from behind them in the corridor...

Tun will turn to be on guard facing back toward the corridor, whispering company to alert the others.

Boo softly alerts the front ranks, let's deal with whatever is coming up from behind before we descend into the mushrooms. But once we do, what think you of tossing a lit torch down into the cavern to get a glimpse of what's around while we still have somewhat of a bird's-eye view? Boo prepares to sidle up next to Tun to speak the native language if the incomers are kobold.

Brother Dumphey peers down into the mushroom-crowded darkness. "I-I got the willies."

Coat of Nine-Hides, turning to face their oncoming visitor, readies her spear. "A messenger, surely."

The party turns to face whatever is approaching them from behind. A group of (6) figures in hooded robes* emerge from the shadows into the torchlight; from their size and build likely kobolds. Their hurried pace does not slow as they charge into the party, attacking with their claws. As they intiate their frenzied attack, their hoods drop away revealing kobold skulls. The hooded figures are animated kobold skeletons!

Party Initiative [1d6] = 6

Skeleton Initiative [1d6] = 6

Combat is simultaneous.

Two Skeletons attack Tun. They leap onto the huge ogre-kin and begin tearing at him, but with no success.
Skeleton vs Tun 16 [1d20] = 8 Miss
Skeleton vs Tun 16 [1d20] = 5 Miss

A Skeleton attacks Boo. The undead thing claws the gnome drawing 1st blood.
Skeleton vs Boo 14 [1d20] = 17 Hit
Skeleton Claw Damage [1d3] = 2

A Skeleton attacks Ilthuin. Somehow the skeleton finds a weak spot in the elf's plate armor.
Skeleton vs Ilthuin 19 [1d20] = 19 Hit
Skeleton Claw Damage [1d3] = 2

A Skeleton attacks Gebhart. The unfortunate magic-user is slashed by the skelton's talons.
Skeleton vs Gebhart 10 [1d20] = 11 Hit
Skeleton Claw Damage [1d3] = 2

A Skeleton attacks Coat of Nine-Hides. Her nine hides protect her this time from the skeleton's attacks.
Skeleton vs Coat of Nine-Hides 19 [1d20] = 3Miss

Actions?

* These hooded figures look very similar to the hooded figures the party saw earlier standing in the shadows (in room c).

Boo, furious at the sense of betrayal, leaves wonder at undead kobolds for later. He attacks the one before him with his short sword.
to hit [1d20] = 18
damage [1d6] = 1

Tun attacks the nearest kobold on him (easiest to reach to hit) with the end of his 10' pole.

Coat of Nine-Hides applies her spear to the problem.

Brother Dumphey
tries to put himself between the skeletons and the lighter-armored members of the party. He attempts to turn the undead. Puffing up his chest, he bellows, "HAVE YOU FORMED A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH QUASES, THE ANGRY BRIDEGROOM OF WISDOM? DID YOU KNOW THAT SPIRITUAL SALVATION AND FINANCIAL SUCCESS CAN BE YOURS? AMAZE YOUR FRIENDS, ATTRACT MATES, AND DANCE TO THE LAMENTATIONS OF YOUR ENEMIES. LET ME OFFER YOU SOME HELPFUL PAMPLETS. CAN I SIGN YOU UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER?"
