Because even common classes and races will be new to me in this newest edition I've decided to embrace, I am going to use this thread to randomly create 5e characters. This will be an exercise to eventually familiarize myself with all the races/classes/backgrounds, but also to build up a potential pool of NPCs.

My plan is to start with just the information found in the Player's Handbook, but expand to other sources after the core combinations have been properly explored.

Roll: Race: [1d9] = 6, Background: [1d13] = 7, Class: [1d12] = 11, Level: [1d6] = 2

Race: Gnome
Background: Hermit
Class: Warlock
Starting Level: 3rd

Thoughts
Oh, $#@!. I have never (ever!) created a gnome, and have always shied away from arcane casters. This one is going to truly be a challenge (but is exactly why I'm performing this exercise in the first place).

Edit:

Ugh. This is just about a worst-case scenario.

Thoughts
The hits just keep on coming. I didn't want to roll ahead, but I added 'level' as a variable on my macro and wanted to make sure it worked. It did.

Another warlock?!
And a dragonborn on top of it?!

Hopefully, having to create two warlocks in a row will make the second one that much easier to create (even if it's starting a higher level with more options). No, probably not. Lol
