Chapter 02: Out and about
Re: Chapter 02: Out and about
The huge snake-like creature lies still as far as Ox and Norbold can see. From the angle where you're standing, no head is visible, but (as mentioned earlier) the creature's body mass does continue behind the mud corner.

Norbold Ernessaeia (Sylvanian Elf Cleric): Scale Mail AC 6 : Hit Points 6 / 6:
Norbold will approach closer to it, by coming up from it's tail end, rather than whatever he can make out to be it's head.
If he gets to within 5ft of it he will put away his bow and draw his mace.
Then will observe to see if the creature/object is breathing. If not breathing Norbold will prod it first with his mace, then hands.
If it appears to be breathing, he will back off about 20 ft and look for pebbles to throw at it.

Re: Chapter 02: Out and about
Norbold moves up closer to the coiled reptile-ish creature lying on the shallow water's muddy edge. It seems to lie perfectly still so Norbold prods it with his mace.
In an instant, the huge tubular being uncoils itself, and Norbold only has time to see it revealing its snake head as, in a flash, it attacks the elf with its fanged jaws! The huge snake manages to chomp through Norbold's armour and scores a hit: Snake to hit: [1d20] = 11, damage: [1d3] = 1 / (PC must also save vs poison if injured)
Not only that - another snake (that couldn't be seen before) starts slithering (slowly) around the corner throught the water, towards where Norbold stands!

Re: Chapter 02: Out and about
Korin looks for a place to tie off the horses so he can go see what the devil is going on up there with Norbold and Ox. Grumbling along the way "Blasted friends checkin on somethin then just yellin back obscenities, probably gettin himself killed." the dwarf will then head towards where Ox and Norbold went weapon in hand.

Re: Chapter 02: Out and about
Norbold's armour gets a nasty stain from the snake's poison gland, but it looks like the foul liquid did not penetrate any deeper.
Korin finds an ancient ironwood stump on the bank strong enough to tie the horses to, and is free to come up and investigate what's going on where Ox and Norbold are.

Ox - M.U./Fight-HP 10-AC 3 Fire his bow at the Snake.
L Bow to hit [1d20+2] = 5+2 = 7, to Dam[1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7

the long bow firing rate is 2 per roundIs it only 1 atk per round
approx. 80-90 feet.how far from the battle is Korin?
Also: be aware that the 2nd snake is moving in towards Norbold.
Re: Chapter 02: Out and about
Norbold's mace just bounces off the taut, slimy scales of the giant snake, while an arrow from Ox whizzes past and embeds itself in an opposite mud bank, doing no harm to anyone. Ox will still have time, though, to reload before the snakes attack again.
Ox and Norbold also hear Korin scrambling up from behind, grumbling dwarven expletives in an annoyed tone....

Ox fires a second arrow into the mud.

Re: Chapter 02: Out and about
Korin advances the rest of the distance and will engage the second snake. Broad Sword [1d20 +1] = 13+1 = 14 to hit [2d4 +3] = 4+3 = 7 s/m dmg [1d6 +4] = 3+4 = 7 lrg dmg

Re: Chapter 02: Out and about
Transfixed by the snakes' evil appearance, Ox loses grip of his bowstring and the 2nd arrow lands limply just a few feet to the side.
Into the skirmish comes Korin, bravely charging with his broadsword. The cursing dwarf deals an injuring blow to slithering reptile #2 - but it keeps advancing!
Snake 1 snaps its jaws after Norbold but is still fazed from getting its fangs stuck in elfin armour last round, and misses: Snake to hit: [1d20] = 4, damage: [1d3] = 2 / (PC must also save vs poison if injured)
Snake 2 however, although hurt, raises its strong shiny neck from the shallow water and lashes out violently against Korin, jabbing his arm. It doesn't look too good for our sturdy dwarf: Snake to hit: [1d20] = 16, damage: [1d3] = 1 / (PC must also save vs poison if injured): Korin also receives 1 pt. damage and must save vs. poison
Actions ?
(Btw I assume you experienced guys are aware that unless swift remedy is at hand, monster poison generally equals sayonara in 1e... ?)

Re: Chapter 02: Out and about
we have only one archer. 3 PCs and no healer. No way to stop poison and we didn't bring the snakes into this you know.
Korin having no choice besides melee or throw a dagger or hand ax fights on hopefully Broad Sword [1d20 +1] = 7+1 = 8 to hit [2d4 +3] = 8+3 = 11 s/m dmg [1d6 +4] = 3+4 = 7 lrg dmg
Save v Poison (13) [1d20] = 18

Re: Chapter 02: Out and about
Korin's sturdy constitution stops the poison from having any effect (but he still suffers regular damage)
As Norbold scampers away, Snake 1 gets an advantageous attack from the rear - its fangs scratches Norbolds bum ( or 'ass' ): Snake to hit: [1d20] = 16, damage: [1d3] = 2 / (PC must also save vs poison if injured) Save vs. poison!
Korin gallantly continues to fend off the vicious reptiles but this time his solid dwarven blade just skids off Snake 2's hide. However, a third arrow from Ox, who has quickly regained his posture & confidence, hits right into the soft underbelly of Snake 2. Foul blue-grayish blood gushes forth from the cut, but the snake still sways menacingly in front of them, hissing wildly, and tries to bite Korin once again: Snake to hit: [1d20] = 2, damage: [1d3] = 3 / (PC must also save vs poison if injured), without much success in its injured and weakened state.
Both Korin and Ox quickly gauge the situation and realise they might have a chance to outrun the snakes, if they manage to get up out of the low watery area, up onto the surrounding banks (which are slippery!). Especially if Ox forfeits his 2nd arrow shot this melee round, his chances of getting some lead will increase, a little....
