Chapter 2 (GreyWolfVT, sulldawga)

#1 Post by Rukellian »

The day has been long, and the air has been extremely dry and hot. You are about to retire for the night when you hear the sound of a thundering roar. The roar sounds close by and the noise does not stop.

Actions?

Seven "What in the hell is that?" he says rushing to the door, drawing his guns, and going to look outside and see what is making all the noise.

Zeke also arms himself with his hunting rifle and moves to look in the direction of the noise.

You lost an opportunity to describe the situation, what exactly is making that noise and where you two are at. So I shall do so for you. As a reminder, in this game system, vague beginnings are intentional, allowing the players to choose how they want to continue or start an adventure. :)

The day was long and you just finished rescuing the doctor's boy. The afternoon passed uneventfully as you collected your caps, medicine and the free house in the settlement. The Doc spoke of leaving the settlement soon with his boy to escape the grasp of their pursuers, those interested in the strange serum that the Doc created.

It was towards the end of the day when the sun already set and the moon was high, that the thunderous roar occurred. This was no storm or a beast, but the sound of multiple motorbikes circling the settlement. Judging from the sound and what you can see around you in the darkness, there are easily 20-30 of them.

Raiders. Back with a vengeance.

Actions? Any new details you want to add?

Shit! I knew we should have gotten out of here as soon as we were done with the boy. Well, what do you think Seven? Hop on the bikes and outrun them? We could easily lose them in the darkness.

Or else we could open up a can of whoop-ass. There's only 20 of them.

Seven "I'm a bit surprised there was that many of them left we killed the entire camp just about only had like two survivors. Something doesn't set right with this. If we still had the gyro-copter I'd be using that to leave how they gonna see whats above em? That's coming from me and I hate the idea of flying. Unless it will save my hide." then the cowboy smiles "I think we're both forgetting about our contingencies in place for such a situation." the cowboy goes and digs around for a second and returns with what well looks to be a button detonator for the contingencies he smiles grimly and presses the button, all around the perimeter of the settlement mines begin to go off when the raiders bikes drive over them.

Zeke frowns.

Man, I was hoping we could save those for some serious threats, like deathclaws or what have you. Plus now the salvage on these clowns is going to be in little pieces. Still, that's better than us being in little pieces. And we can go back and hit their camp afterward.

Zeke sights his rifle and looks to see if any of the raiders managed to live through the explosions.

Seven "I know but this at least gives us and the rest of the folks here a fighting chance for survival. I'm just thankful we warned them about the extra protections we put in place so hopefully nobody ran out there into the mines. Always a concern I've had but we told them in advance so they would not do something stupid. Besides we have other protections and there are other explosives out there we can use to setup the security measures again. I was working on some similar to the old vaults automated gun systems but need more parts. After all that is why we ended up in that old hotel I was trying for other parts."

The miniature minefield Seven set up in advance worked exceedingly well. The 20 some raiders are no longer moving but sprawled out on the ground in various positions, dead. Many of their motorbikes are in pieces, but the pieces are salvageable at that (assuming a good dice roll). The only other raiders you remember seeing were the ones that left the encampment in the city for a supply run. They must have come back to see the boy was gone and some of their men dead.

The folks inside the settlement are safe for another night in the wastes, but without the minefield, some of the guards will have to be extra vigilant on the walls now. Some are even uneasy now, speaking of things worse than raiders. "All those explosions in the middle of the night.... you think it woke up some of them monsters in the sands?"

Seven will go and salvage what he can for parts from the motor bikes and work on getting the gun turrets working again if possible.

Zeke accompanies Seven and covers him while he salvages.

If you see any intact bike parts, grab those, too. And then let's hit the raider camp again. Should be pretty close to empty and we want to get there first, before anyone else hears we wiped them out.

When they're finished, before they leave, he addresses the settlement folks gathered around.

You all knew those mines were a one-shot deal. I hope you had a back-up plan for when they finally went off. If not, we'll do our best to get some turrets up and running but, in the meantime, be cool. Don't panic. That doesn't help anyone.

It isn't much, but you are able to scrounge up enough parts for only two turrets. The rest of the twisted metal and blown apart parts will take some time to hammer straight again and be made useful at a later date. The guards posted near the walls nod in silent understanding. Their numbers are few, but they are experienced. Before Seven and Zeke came along, the guards were charged with defending the place using only guns and scopes.

Reginald, the mayor, agrees with your current course of action. "If you are able to get rid of the rest of them raiders in the nearby city, that will be one less thing we have to do deal with out here. Asides from the glowing critters out in the sands, we might actually be able to call this place safe then."

Seven nods to the mayor "We'll take care of em don't you worry sorry about the noise but it had to be done we were vastly out numbered and that was why I took the risk. I'll finish getting the turret guns working with the salvaged bike parts. Then Zeke and I'll gear up and head out to deal with that raider camp again."

Zeke waits for Seven to finish up and then they ride out to the police station hideout. Before they do, Zeke grabs a couple cans of fuel.

Deuce told me he left the gyrocopter at the police station because it was out of gas and there wasn't any more where he was heading. We can use it to get over the fence at the raider camp if we want.

As you two head out, you find that the guard's concerns from before turned out to be true, sort of. The racket of the motorbikes that the raiders came on woke up a lot of critters in the desert. You can see Radscorpions strewn about on the sandy surface of the wastes. Even some pit vipers can be found, shot up thoroughly like the rest. Nothing seems to stir as you drive by and inspect the carnage. An unsettling thought flickers across the top of your minds. If the raiders hadn't shot these creatures up before arriving, the mine field explosions would have drawn all these things in afterward.

[1d20] = 13

The trip to the police station is uneventful for the remainder of the drive. It's dark out, but you can still figure out where the station was by memory. The shadow of something large can be seen on top of the station's helipad.

Seven checks the tripwire traps he set when last they were at the police station hideout to ensure nobody has been in the place since last time they were there. [1d20] = 11

As they're driving past the carnage, Zeke looks at the radscorp corpses to see if any of them have an intact carapace that could be used to make radscorp armor.

Tripwires are still in place, and the radscorpions yielded some carapace. If you have something to store it in, you'd wager you have enough for about [1d20] = 5 pieces of armor (gauntlets, boots, chest plate, ect.).
