Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"

#1 Post by OGRE MAGE »

Bring Me the Sea Monsters Head
Moonday 22nd of Reaping
Mid Afternoon, Hot, Sunny, Humid, Buggy

Saracen and Monocar are about to set off for a couple hour walk down the beach to see if they can locate the monster that needs to be dealt with.

I will hold the action for a bit to see if Luther wants to go along.

Since this is Saracen's idea, I will let him decide if he wishes to recruit others or not.

He goes back to watching the sea for signs of the creature, or anything else out there of note.

He wonders up close to the water taking a good long scan of the shallows to see if he can spot anything that might offer a clue for old Fish Lips. Off handily to Lunthar: "You suppose there is much in the way of good fishing here? I think someone mentioned before that they had just about fished the place out. I wonder if there were something we could find to attract more in general, like sinking some of the brush for fish homes out here instead of just burning the useless brush."

Raythan tags along, finally coming out of his stupor. " I am sorry that I started all this, but at least Owen is still alive. We must kill the sea creature, whatever it is so we can get him back, at least. And Luther, I m glad to help in your efforts to befriend the tree-folk."

Luther

Before leaving BeachTown, Luther will spend a couple of minutes placing his fish traps- they'll be staked under the edge of the pier, hopefully where something will swim into them while looking for shade.

We may not get to see the thing until closer to sunset. I don't know a lot about fish, but most land predators do their hunting in the early evening.

Have any of you heard any details about this thing? Even anything as basic as its size would be useful. I've got some thoughts on the equipment we'll need to go after this beast- I'd like to hear what the rest of you have to say.

Quest For the Sea Monsters Head
Moonday 22nd of Reaping
Mid Afternoon, Hot, Sunny, Humid, Buggy

Saracen
Luther
Monocar
Raythan
Alordan
Jack
Devrin

Led by the bright orange warrior priest Saracen, the group makes its way down the beach to a point about half way to the river. Once Jack hears about the possibility of a sea monster, he skips along with his big buddy Luther, so he can keep the ranger safe.

The group sets up on the beach and watches the sea, but has no luck in spotting any monsters. After a little time passes, the group spots a lone figure running up the beach towards them. It looks like the elf Devrin, for only an elf would be foolish enough to run in this climate.

Devrin spots the group he seeks about a mile ahead and continues running in that direction. He doesn't get much closer when he sees a horrific creature in the water up ahead, between him and the others. The hideous ten foot tall slimy monster rises up out of the shallow waters of the shoreline and slowly lumbers towards the much faster elf.

The others watch in shock from almost a mile away as Devrin unknowingly offers himself up as their bait.

Monocar

Will shout and point to make sure everyone sees what is happening and he draws his short sword and limbers in the direction of the elf. He is carful to gauge where the intercept will happen rather than over excert himself when everyone is coming his way anyway.

Saracen will begin to make his way towards the elf, collecting his weapons and shield before he goes, and points at the creature emerging from the surf. He will set an arrow in his bow as he lumbers along.
how many rounds until the half-orc is within long range does he reckon?

Jack, lost boy:

"Adventure at last!"
Jack races toward the sea monster, hurtling down the shoreline on the inland grass, grinning all the way.

Once he's within range of an arrow, he'll stop and unshoulder his bow.

It will obviously take several rounds for the group to reach the monster from a mile away, even at a sprint. Lets see what Devrin will do before we start making ranged attacks. :D

I forgot to post these stats in my last post:

Devrin Treesong 9/9 CL, DM, RM, 1/1 first
Alordan 9/10
Saracen Solaris 10/12 0/3 first
Jack 8/10 CL, DM, RM, 1/1 first
Monocar 12/12
Luther 11/13
Raythan 6/6 CL, DM, RM, 1/1 first / 3/3 first (cleric)

Devrin

Devrin stops and evaluates the situation for just a moment. Seeing his friends and allies moving on the monster almost immediately, he decides to keep the thing's attention on himself. He unslings his bow and nocks an arrow. He then walks slowly toward the creature, waiting for it to enter the range of his short bow (15).

"Hey hey hai!!" he yells, keeping the thing focused on him. "Hey hey hai!!"

When the creature does come within range, Devrin fires two arrows.

[1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16 Attack with Bow, inc/ Dex and Race

[1d6] = 3 Damage from Bow/Arrow

[1d20+2] = 18+2 = 20 Attack with Bow, inc/ Dex and Race

[1d6] = 6 Damage from Bow/Arrow
"There is no spoon."

Scraggly Attacks!!!
Mid Afternoon, Hot, Humid, Sandy

The group sprints up the beach towards the action, they do not get close.

But Devrin isn't afraid of some lousy ten foot sea monster. He does not run away at all. In fact, he walks towards the monster. The elf readies his bow, hoping to fire once the beast gets close enough.

Deciding it best to stick to the water, the monster wades back out to about 25 feet off the shoreline as it continues to move towards Devrin. The beast is so lanky that everything above its waist is still visible in about 5 feet of water. As soon as it gets into range, the elf lets loose his arrows.

The first arrow bounces off the things boney elbow, causing it no ill effect. The second arrow thuds deeply into the monsters chest, causing it to slow just a little. The beast reaches up with one webbed claw and yanks out then snaps the arrow as if it were a matchstick. Discarding it into the sea with a flick of his arm, it continues its slow approach towards the elf.

Monocar

Makes his way over to where the melee is setting up and puts himself more or less in place to intercept the Ogre shouldbit come out of the water. He holds his shortsword at the ready to take a swing soon as the monster is in range. "Hey! Double ugly! Come on! I'll give you a hair cut from the neck up!"

Saracen continues onwards at his lumbering pace, arrow knocked ready to fire when he is in range.
Looking at the sea creature does he think it the same one (or type) he saw tailing the water crew earlier?
