WTF? Round 1
The Communal Meeting Place
Mid-night, Cooler and Less Humid
Pitch Black and Even More Buggy

As the party awakens and readies for battle, Keilif, being the only member who can’t see what is happening, fires up a torch. Bonnie quickly returns to the inside of the hut to grab her gear, yelling for the group to beware of possible incoming fire. Wes begins an incantation that should hold the bizarre creature right where it is, calling on the plants in the area to come alive. He mentions that the group should get ready, but to hold their fire until the things intentions can be discerned.

Franny shakes off her sleep and loads her crossbow. She flips open another unrolled wall mat to get a better look at what is coming, but for the time being, she holds her fire. Krystal remembers the vegetable horrors she witnessed deep in the jungle and thinks that the actions of the creature seem to mimic a bowman about to fire an arrow. She rushes for cover behind a few of the bamboo wall sections.

Brufrig is not happy to be woken up after just getting to sleep, but he feels mysteriously good for being so injured when he went down. He slips outside and begins yelling at the dark figure, hoping to simply scare it away. He yells to get a torch fired up as he and Ferris open fire on the lumpy form. Their bolts disappear into the black, hairy mass, leaving them both unsure if they caused it any damage or not.

After this strange looking monster rears back, it thrusts its full momentum forward violently without actually advancing any closer. What the group sees next sends a shiver up their spines. Several large lumps spring off of the main form, flying in the direction of the occupied pavilion. As the hairy lumps shoot through the air, each of them flay out eight spindly legs from their bulbous, round bodies. Over a dozen strong, the smaller creature’s eight creepy eyes dart all around, searching for a fresh target to pounce onto. They quickly move towards Brufrig the dwarf, the only party member standing outside the hut.

The lone creature does not try to move any closer once it unleashes his friends at the group. The vines and grasses start to curl up around its legs, apparently holding it firm right where it stands. The beast looks a bit different now however without its black hairy covering. Its body is actually a dirty off-white color and it has flaps of droopy skin that wrap all around its man sized, humanoid form, looking similar to a mummy. It gives off a horrifically sour odor once it releases its army of insectiods in your direction.

Actions!

There are a total of 13 of the large volleyball sized many legged hairy spider thingy's coming at you that are about to attack. I will post a pic and a position map next round, once I know where everyone is going to move to.

Ferris 3/7 DM, RM, 1/1 first

Krystal

Krystal points a finger at one of the spiders flying through the sky, incanting a zappy zingy bolt of energy from her own arcane repertoire. When her trigger finger fires only 'dum dums' she kicks herself forgetting she never attended That class in school, and so draws her long sword and impales a creature instead as one advances in the doorway.

Longsword melee [1d20+1] = 15+1 = 16 damage [1d8] = 4

Brufrig Granitesunder

Seeing the strange spider-like creatures coming toward him, Brufrig drops his crossbow and tries to skewer one with his halberd but is not quick enough to hit the small creature.

Waes looks at the hurtling creatures coming towards the hut to try and determine if they are natural spiders or some nefarious magical creation or Undead or other unnatural phenomenon. If they are somehow controlled or linked to the entangled creature that's seemed to spawn them.

The half-elf will look for a defensible position in the hut, where his back and flank are protected.

If any come close and try and attack him he will strike out with his spear set as they charge in
Greys Campaign.

Now that Franny can see they're under attack, she'll fire her crossbow at the nearest spider. Her weapon must need some adjustments, after that horrendous miss! So she gently throws her crossbow to the side and pulls out her battle-axe.

Ferris

swinging a heavy pick axe at mobile 'don't-want-to-be-squished-hairy-spiders' proves a tad too difficult for the tired gnome.

Ferris heavy pick melee [1d20] = 6 damage [1d6+2] = 3+2 = 5

Legs and Eyes Everywhere, Round 2
The Communal Meeting Place
Mid-night, Cooler and Less Humid
Pitch Black and Even More Buggy

These small spider-like critters are very quick on their many feet and are proving to be hard to hit. They rush towards the pavilion, scurrying in under the wall flaps and through any opening that they will fit into. Six of their number jump up onto the outside walls of the place and disappear towards the top of the thatch roof. The other 7 charge in to attack the party members.

Waes readies his spear, setting it up against one of the walls to take on the charge of the small creatures. Sidestepping the dangerous spear point, the little monster charging in tries to bite at the half-elf, but its attempt is ineffective. The druid is pretty certain that these things are simple jungle creatures and acting completely on their own accord. They don’t seem to be following any commands from their “carrier”, verbal or mental.

Krystal steps out of her hiding spot once the spiders breach the hut walls. The confident elf wants to zap one with magic from a distance, but instead walks up to the doorway and skewers the spider charging in at her with her sword. The blow nearly kills the thing outright, but it still seems to be holding on by a web-like thread. Its injury clearly makes its counter attack far less effective.

Franny fires at one ineptly with her defective crossbow, deciding to toss it aside to draw forth her battle ax to chop at them with instead. Ferris and Brufrig have the same luck with their attacks on the charging spiders, each missing as they flit around trying to bite at them. Franny, Brufrig, and Keilif are all bitten once. 1 dam They start to get the sickly feeling of a weak poison beginning to course through their veins as they press their attacks. Save vs. Poison at +4, please.

Keilif retaliates with his torch in one hand and his fancy mace in the other. He swings down at the bug that just bit him, squashing it into a messy splotch of hair, eyes, and guts onto the floor of the hut. With the party’s backs to the opposite wall, Bonnie can be heard reentering the hut behind the others. She seems to be searching through her pack to find something special to toss at these hairy pests.

The sour smelling mummy-like monster does not advance from the center of the druids spell area. He makes no commands or any noise at all, really. He just stands there watching the events of the battle unfold, seemingly content to let his tiny soldiers to do all of the dirty work. Now that its hairy jacket is off and attacking you, it appears that the pasty white monster has a sword stuck to its chest.

Waes thrusts the spear at the small spider sadly trying to fend it off. [1d20] = 3 : [1d6] = 4

"Help get this one off me so I can try and reason with these spiders with a spell!" he calls to the others.

Brufrig Granitesunder

Not pleased at all with the quickness of these hairy assailants, Brufrig is nonetheless able to find the soft, gooey center of one (6) with the blade of his halberd.

Legs and Eyes Everywhere, Round 3
The Communal Meeting Place
Mid-night, Cooler and Less Humid
Pitch Black and Even More Buggy

Krystal smashes the big bug on the end of her sword onto the ground, stabbing it again when it falls off for good measure. That spider is now quite dead. Ferris attempts to “pick” on another, but his attack lands “short”. He contemplates drawing forth his clever instead for a little cleaner controlled chopping.

Brufrig gets the hang of these things attack patterns rather quickly, slicing one of them in half with his attack. He can feel the burn of the things bite still rushing through his bloodstream, even though the thing lay dead at his feet. 1 dam Franny is more fortunate with her ability to defend against the bugs poison, but her aggressive attack falls far short of its mark.

Waes wants to cast his final magicks of the day over these tiny monsters, but he needs to deal with the one trying to bite him first. He misses with an errant spear swing and calls out for aid. Bonnie lights a torch and secures a flask of oil from the pile of packs on the floor. She approaches the druid from behind to help, but she is not in time to take a swing at the hairy pest.

Keilif, still splattered with spider guts, walks forward and clubs the huge insect that Ferris missed. The priest shakes off the burning affect of the bite he just sustained. His swing falls true again and he coats himself with ichor for the second time, also splattering some onto the gnome. The remaining spiders press their attacks, but this time only Brufrig is bitten. 1 dam

While the battle rages on, the party stands their ground well. The smelly monster stuck in the foliage doesn’t seem to be very interested in the outcome. It just stands there watching from its little writhing garden. The acute senses of the group’s elves notice a disturbance in the thatch towards the top of the shelter. They can tell that something is still crawling around on the outside of this building.

Krystal

"They're digging their way through. Nasty critters."Krystal will focus on a point where the thatch is being disturbed and shaking and then stab through the covering into the body of a beasty above.

Longsword melee [1d20+1] = 20+1 = 21 damage [1d8] = 5

(If she can't reach the roof, she will use Ferris as a step up!)

Bonnie

Bonnie squeezes in front of Wes to shield him from the spider. Waving her lit torch at the spider hoping to force it to back off, she agrees with Krystal. "There are more on the roof! Step outside!"

To the spider: "Back! Back! See the bad fire? Back!"

Ferris

Decides to load his heavy crossbow, kneeling on the hut floor and slowly manipulating the bow pulley back and plucking a 'lucky' bolt from his pouch. He does it methodically and concentrates to regain his 'touch' after several poor attacks. Only to be almost interrupted by some kinky boots and fishnet stockings filled by trimmed elven long legs that mount him in the process.

Brufrig Granitesunder

Fresh off his kill of one of the spiders, Brufrig returns to his previous pattern of missing his targets.

If Waes is able to cast a spell whilst not being engaged with a slider he will attempt to speak with them with his magic. If he can't he will stab at one with his spear again.

Legs and Eyes Everywhere, Round 4
The Communal Meeting Place
Mid-night, Cooler and Less Humid
Pitch Black and Even More Buggy

The call to watch out above rings out over the noise of spiders squishing in the night. Krystal tries to reach up to the roof of the hut, finding the peak to be just out of her swords reach. She contemplates using the gnome as a stepping stool to boost her way up, but hears a rustling noise coming from inside the chimney and decides against the move. Bonnie rushes in front of Wes with her lit torch, trying to shoo away the dripping fanged enemy. Her intuition proves to be accurate as the spider reluctantly backs away from the flame and does not attack. Wes is just about to begin a spell when he sees Keilif rush over towards him with a bloodlust in his eyes. The cleric swats again with his ornate seahorse headed mace, connecting for a third time, but not quite killing the little monster outright. Wes shakes his head, unable to direct the chaos of this battle. The druid resigns to using his spear instead, killing the injured spider with a quick jab from his long weapon.

Ferris keeps the stout dwarves in between he and the arachnids, using the down time to load another bolt into his fancy pickbow contraption. Franny starts to get upset over her complete inability to hit these elusive buggers. Her disposition causes her swing to fall wide yet again. She is paid back by a sharp chomp on her leg, again feeling the poison of this monster begin to enter her system. 1 dam and Save vs. poison, please Brufrig has about the same luck, missing the spider trying to bite him. Fortunately, he is able to dodge the return attack this time. The normally stoic dwarf feels sick to his large stomach now as the spiders poison flows through his innards.

Just then a hole in the thatch roof begins to appear and spiders begin to drop through it. One of the hairy beasts pops out of the stone smokestack opening. Luckily, Krystal is right there waiting for it. She cuts the thing in half easily just as another one pops its ugly head out, ready to inject the she elf with its weak poison. Two more slowly descend from the ceiling, trying to sneak up behind Bonnie and Wes.

Actions!

Ferris 3/7 DM, RM, 1/1 first
Waesfaren Rhey 10/10 1/4 first (Entangle spell: 7)
Bonnie 6/6 Torch
Krystal 5/5 CL DM RM 1/1 first
Franny Buurlslammer 8/12
Brufrig Granitesunder 6/15 poisoned (-1 hit point/round for ? rounds)
