Luther

Luther almost loses his grip when the rope begins moving up. Whoah! He looks upward, trying to see what he's gotten himself into now.

Monocar

Revision!

He grasp at the nub of rope, briefly grabbing hold with one hand but after a few feet of upward motions he looses his grip and lands hard on his feet. "Luthar! We'll find another way up!"

Hard DEX (17) [4d6] = 18

Looks for a climbable tree!

Going Up?
Late Morning, Hot, Humid, Buggy, High

The hungry but helpful townsfolk who were already tilling and planting the newly cleared area continue to stay back at the warnings of the three adventurers. They look on in disbelief as the strange events play out in front of them. The men shout out warnings to "be careful" as the ranger continues to rise further away from the ground.

Luther hangs onto the vine rope for dear life, no longer having to climb it as he is being lifted up alone towards the elevated structures. Monocar tries to jump up to the rope, hoping to stay with his friend as he rises. His attempt just misses the vine, forcing him to find another way up. Raythan keeps looking towards the sky, his mouth wide with wonder as he estimates the distance from ground to tree tops. He assumes that the tops of the tallest trees in this area have to be at least 150 feet high. The half-elf believes Luther should have a pretty good view of the area once he arrives at the structures.

Monocar locates a very tall tree nearby that he thinks he could climb, but he knows just by looking that he wont be able to climb the tangled monster nearly as fast as Luther is being pulled up. He jumps up onto a large branch and begins to slowly shimmy up the thick trunk and the next branch that should hold his immense girth.

Higher and higher the ranger is pulled up, quickly nearing the wooden structures above. At this dangerous height, the burly human squeezes the vine even harder, certain that a fall from this distance would be most deadly. He begins to see the structures and platforms a little better now and even spots a few of the creatures that are laboriously tugging up on the rope. They look like some strange cross between a raccoon and a monkey. Through the opening at the bottom of this platform, their eyes squint down at him in anger as Luther nears the last few dozen feet of his ascension. Once lifted above the overgrowth that was hiding the platforms from the ground, Luther can see that there are many of these hidden platforms and hut-like structures built up here in the tree tops. He also sees many rope bridges that connect most of these tallest of trees to a massive central platform just off in the distance. The monkoons doing the pulling say nothing as the man nears closer and closer to the small opening that they are about to pull him up through. Luther finds that the wood used for these structures is somehow familiar to him. Give me a normal Wis check, please Urson.

Actions?

Due to his woodsman skills, Monocar can climb the tree at approx. 40 feet per round. Putting him up near the structures in about 4 rounds.

Luther lets the monkoons do their thing, but will climb onto the platform when he can. He looks around, making sure not to make eye contact with any of these creatures, or to smile and show his teeth. He's mainly looking for walkways and platforms, so he doesn't fall to hisoverduedeath.

Sounds good to me! I guess we are assuming he is smart enough not to rush?

Monocar
"I'm coming Luthar!" He moves fast as he dares, his eyes always scanning ahead to pick out a predetermined path as he moves upward.

Take your time- don't startle these things, or I'll be trying to learn how to fly.

Luther continues his ascent and eventually reaches the underside of the wooden platform. He suddenly realizes that he has seen the planks used to build these structures before. In fact, he has seen them in several places around Beachtown. It is the same material that his shack and many other buildings around town are made from, including parts of the Treehouse itself.

He reaches up to grab onto the wooden structure as he is pulled the rest of the way through the square opening. The burly ranger finds himself on a well built platform that is about 15 feet square. There are many ropes hanging here and there, most look like makeshift railings but others are obviously connected to the many bridges that span from treetop to treetop in every direction. It was impossible to see from below, but theses creatures have made themselves quite the little metropolis up here in the sky. It is difficult to tell just how vast this monkoon settlement is, as the bridges and structures spread out as far as the eye can see.

Looking around, Luther sees the vine rope elevator he rode up on stretched along one of the long rope bridges and about 20 or so of these monkoon creatures that must have been the ones doing the pulling. He sees another dozen monkoons that are now surrounding him on this platform, all brandishing sharpened sticks that are pointing in his direction. A few of the 3 foot tall creatures are actually waving around small rusting daggers as they all screech and squawk at him loudly and incoherently. As if that wasn't scary enough for the lone human, the ranger then spots the unmoving form of the dark skinned handyman Owen lying in one corner. He is badly beaten and quite bloodied, his hands and feet are tied with more rope and he has a cloth gag wrapped tightly around his eyes and mouth. It is impossible to tell if the man yet lives with this small army of creatures blocking the view.

Monocar continues his climb and Raythan continues to watch it all from far, far below.

Monocar

"One... hand hold... then the other... easy does it... nice and steady.... LUTHAR! LUTHAR? ARE YOU OKAY UP THERE? I'M COMING!" He continues to pick his way upwards carefully now as he gets higher.

Luther

Don't yell! I'm in a tight spot, but I'm OK. Luther uses his knowledge of animal behavior to try and make himself look small and harmless- hard to do when you're 6' tall. He slouches, keeps his shoulders hunched, avoids all eye contact. He gestures toward Owen and begins moaning in apparent sadness, trying to move between the monkoons without threatening them.

Up, Up, And Away

Monocar shouts out loudly AGAIN after being told not to, there is no detrimental affect from it this time however. It almost seems like the monkoons aren't even paying attention to the pokey giant tree climber as he laboriously pushes on with his loooong climb. Luckily, the young man grew up in the woods and holds no fear of climbing or heights.

Monocar and Raythan can no longer see Luther since he popped through the opening in the platform.

Mono will reach the area below the platform in approximately 3 more rounds. Can I assume that he will simply continue on with his climb till then?

Raythan has time to do anything that he would like for the next 4 minutes or so.

The Mountain continues his climb, sweat pouring off of him now due to the sheer effort it takes in not falling to his death from this dizzying height. For the first time, he is happy to not have anything in the way of possessions weighing him down. In fact, he is starting to get used to this minimalist way of adventuring.

Raythan badly wants to help, but he stays on the ground to guard the tree's thick trunk.

The townies all still look on in amazement, pointing up at Monocar as he climbs higher and higher. Raythan notices that two of the farming commoners begin to slink away during all of this excitement.

These posts don't really require a response unless either of you want to do something different.
I am just filling in the time it will take for them to kill Luther and toss his dead body back through the hole. (that is probably only a joke)

Monocar keeps chugging up the branches with care, getting very close to the platform now. He hears Luther shout down through the hole at him.

Monocar

Freezes and looks up confused. He finds a pair of good sturdy branches to stand on and holds on. He also checks downward to see what Raythan is doing before refocusing up to the platform, straining his eyes and hears for clues of what is going on up there.

Monocar continues to listen, staying put where he is in the tree for now. He hears more conversation from above, but he isn't able to make out the words. So far, things don't seem to be getting too heated. He hopes Luther knows what he is doing up there.

Raythan wisely readies a spell to catch either of his friends, just in case something bad should befall them.

A few more minutes pass with no sign of the burly ranger returning safely to the ground.
