At the sea shore, Wes sees Saracen handing over the bugs to the 2 men tending the fire. They seem pretty stoked to get some fresh meat and begin the preparations for smoking them right away.Jernau35 wrote:Wes
On arriving back in town, Wes walks down to the shoreline and into the surf. He takes off his helmet and rinses out all the grime and sweat. Then he fills the helmet with water and places it back on the sand behind him. Then he fills up his two water bottles and places them next to the helmet on the sand. After saying a prayer to Obad-hai, to thank him for bringing him safely out of the jungle today, Wes casts his last spell of the day: Purify Water.
Stowing his water bottles away, Wes heads for the Treehouse, noisily chugging on the contents of his helmet as he goes.

The half-orc waves at the dripping druid and gives him one of his menacing grins. Yawning the holy champion will head back to the shared hut and fall to sleep, exhausted.

Since it doesn't look like the others will be making it back tonight, or maybe ever, I will begin keeping a running total of who is down for the night and who is still out and about. As soon as the majority of folks are content to advance to morning......we will.

From the trail-head, Chauncey will make his way first to the community water barrel for a much needed drink, then down to the beach. He spies the rude bonfire men roasting up the centipedes and shudders. There must be something available more attuned to a sophisticated palate such as his own, he thinks, and scans the shoreline for any sort of edible crustacean - some sort of small to medium-sized crab, perhaps? If he sees any, he'll try to catch one, from behind, of course, to avoid getting pinched.

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
Chauncey finds nothing in the way of edible wildlife at the waters edge. There is not a crab or crustacean in sight. He looks around a little but it becomes clear to him rather quickly that this are has been completely denuded of any food sources. He hasn't even see any edible plants around the town as of yet.
Perhaps it would have been a good idea for his group to return directly with the 400 pounds of ape meat when they had the chance. Ape steaks would have to be better than a chunk of smoked centipede, right? Plain ol' dried up iron rations for a midnight snack is going to get old pretty fast.
Let me know if you would like to go any further up or down the beach to search for edibles.

Brufrig Granitesunder
Leaving behind his shovel, cloak, and iron rations, as well as his extra set of clothing, Brufrig wakes in the morning, refreshed after the exertion of the day before. He wanders off to see what is going on in town, if anyone has any plans for the day.

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
Saracen looks into the primitive water collection and storage system currently being used in Beachtown. On the side of the Hi-Lo building, he finds a huge cask and a smaller cask. The big cask is used for any overflow water that is collected from rain or daily trips to the river. It can be drained into the smaller cask through a spigot on one end. There is a crudely built ladder that reaches up to a hinged cover where buckets of collected water can be poured inside to fill it.Storm11 wrote: The half-orc will inspect the towns water supply to see how it is built, with the possibility of building another and using his magic to begin to fill it if Nehru isn't game for a deal.
The smaller cask holds about 50 gallons of water and is currently about a quarter full. The 12 gallons maximum that the half-orc could produce in one day would be a help, even if it was a small amount of this large system. Unfortunately, Mr. Nehru does not seem willing to pay for such a service, not yet anyway.

Thank you kindly
Is the water within drinkable does he think, without causing any long term effects of disease that has been seen or reported.
The half-orc will go and see the carpenter about building his own smaller water storage tank. If he can find him he will ask about logistics and cost and materials likely to be of use.

Ferris the gnome finishes his studies and decides to vacate the shack for a spot of sunning his tootsies in the island sunshine. Not so many people around today, seems like the zombie quest got stomped for now. So exploring the camp he will make a visit to Wes the druid.
"Greetings earth-friend. Building a shrine for Obad-Hai today perhaps?" he says shaking his trusty pick in case the druid needs to excavate a few stones and tries to chat a bit in old gnomic with a fellow speaker. "can speak to burrowing mammals you know. Maybe a sand rabbit or an indigenous mole can let me know what is happening in the furry underworld."

The water in the casks is potable and gets cycled through fairly regularly. The concerned warrior priest does not think that the storage system is all that modern a unit, but it seems to be working adequately enough so far.Storm11 wrote: Is the water within drinkable does he think, without causing any long term effects of disease that has been seen or reported.

After seeking out Owen, the islands carpenter, Saracen learns that he will be tied up with Raythan's shack for at least another week, likely longer. He is more than happy to take up another job once that is finished, of course.

"No shrine today, little friend. I hear that Mr. Nehru isn't much on religion being pushed around here anyway. I will be setting out on a quest with Alordan and possibly Saracen very soon though, if you wish to come along. We are leaving with the town's water gatherers on a trip to explore the river. Your skills and abilities would be very much welcome."

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
After returning from the loggers camp.....
The pair of elves that went ahead on their own is molested no further and soon begin to smell the salty sea air and spot Beachtown just up ahead. Jack sprints the last few hundred feet of the trail, proudly displaying to Krystal that he was the first one of the group to return. Krystal begins looking and asking around for the old man dressed like a wizard that a few of the members saw when they first arrived on the island. She does not see the elderly gentlemen anywhere around the town and gets very little in the way of help from the commoners when asking about him. She then remembers that the handsome halfling was also asking around about the man. Perhaps the little guy would be able to offer her some insight as to where he is.
Once all of the others return, I will post XP and revise the "things to do" list.
Fell free to continue posting here or in any of the other town threads in the meantime.

Jack, lost boy:
Beaming with pride at being the first one back, Jack will follow Luther around some more, helping the injured giant get some rest... at least until dawn.

Monocar
"Man-Mountain" Monocar enters into town helping Belfrig the dwarf haul his macabre load like some draft animal from the front line of a horrific war. Covered in bug bites, stings, half closed wounds, sweat, dried blood, and the general foul and filth from the ordeal do little to help the almost blank preditory look in his eyes. The empty waterskin slaps his side as he walks, almost naked. He face contorted with pain, anger, and most of all, hunger. None of these things help his appearance much less his mood. He still mumbles under his breath on occasion as if having some private conversation with someone he doesn't like. Still, he keeps moving without any outward complaint although his exhaustion is evident. Say what you will, the young man has the constitution of an old soldier.

Luther
The ranger stashes his gear in his shack, and takes a quick rinse in the bay, cleaning off the worst of the mud, blood and trail dirt. He'll get Monocar's attention afterward. Let's see if I can help you replace some of your gear, buddy. He leads 'man-mountain' to his shack and begins laying out his spares and supplies.
Once this is sorted, Luther collapses in his bedroll and sleeps the sleep of the near-dead.

Lightfinger makes the attempt.
He knows sneaking up on an Elf is difficult enough as is, but Krystal is not just any Elf! Still, his innate orneriness gets the better of him. Harold, he speaks, no more than inches from the Elven Lass' robe, and keeps walking as if he were utterly innocent of any chicanery, The old Man's name is Harold. It's been my experience that you won't find Harold, he'll find you. I'm going to check that very possibility now, if you'd care to join me. Then I have an old Woman I need to speak with. The wicked little rake smirks as he marches to the Hi-lo.

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
The sunlight begins to fade on yet another rough day on this oddly named tropical island. The normal activities of the townspeople begin to bring on the night. Families and loners alike begin to head to their shacks and the large fire pit is stoked up again with dried fronds to get the smoke billowing throughout the camp. To your amazement, their still doesn't seem to be any security measures set up around the perimeter of the town at night. It is amazing to some of you that, with the sheer danger of the jungle butting right up to the town, that there aren't more attacks on the place once darkness sets in.
Luther heads down to the water with his little buddy Jack to clean up a little in the warm surf. Jack splashes and squirts the salty water at the jovial bear man, who takes it all in stride and even splashes back a little bit. The ranger tells Monocar to stop by later so he can offer up some of his extra clothing and gear. Monocar just nods as he listens to his large stomach growl with hunger pangs.
Bonnie thanks all of the friends who came along to help. Though it was a long and anticlimactic day of recovery, at least nobody was killed or lost. The she elf then heads straight to her shack to get some much needed rest.
Lightfinger the handsome halfling spots Krystal who is currently looking for the old man that was wandering around town when the group first arrived. He tells her that the wizards name is Harold and that she may as well stop searching for him as he has already found him to be rather elusive in nature. The vertically challenged hobbit then makes his way to see his large lady friend at the Hi-Lo before it closes.
