Experience Points

XP's will be awarded for enemies vanquished and magical treasure collected. None of the monetary treasure gained will count towards earned XP initially. However, in an attempt to stimulate future character growth, any monies used at a later time for continuing your profession etc. will gain you experience on a ratio of one XP per gp invested. example: if a wizard were to build a tower to continue his magical studies or if a druid wanted to buy some land and develop a grove etc...

The best way to gain experience is by completing "missions". Rewards for solving the islands many mysteries will vary largely based on difficulty and the complexity of the results. Once a mission is complete and the group involved gets back to town, XP will then be rewarded and any leveling will be done at that time. (you won't level out in the bush)

Bonus experience points for high ability scores will not be used.

I am not a stickler on the time you need to spend attaining your newly gained level. You can just write up a little something about whatever you did to train, study etc. Your character won't need to spend weeks at a time away from the game just so they can go up one level.

One exception to this will be when attaining "Class Levels". (Wizard, Lord, Priest, etc.) Once a character has gained enough experience to obtain his class level, the next experience earned must be done in the service of his master, deity, church, family, etc., and it must be a special quest, something away from the current mission. This will all be determined by the DM on an "as needed" basis, obviously. (for most classes it won't come up for a long time) These could be done as a group endeavor, a small side party, or even a solo mission, depending on the current game situation. When the time comes, I will confer with that player to try to come up with something we both like. Hopefully it will be a fun little distraction from the main game.

Here is a template of how this process will happen.

All experience point values, including magic items, will be divided up equally amongst each party member involved. Amounts awarded for completing missions and other special instances will be based on its circumstances and outcome.

Trip to BSI:
Defeated 6 Bluntskulls

Monsters = 100xp ea x6= 600/12 = 50ea

Non Monetary Treasure = 0

Mission Accomplished = 0 (this will vary by difficulty)

For a grand total of 50 experience earned for each character on board.

Beach Zombie Welcome Party:
Defeated 9 Zombies (with the help of half of Beachtown)

Monsters = 20xp ea x 9 =180/18 (or so) = 10xp each.

I will add a bonus of 15xp for each character for some good strategy and fortuitous spell casting. (and to make it actually worth the effort to adjust it) :D

Each of you can add 25xp to your total.

I know it ain't much, but I didn't want to forget about it.

Quest #2 "Beach Walk" (west)
Brufrig and Ferris defeated one large lizard and found one abandoned campsite.

Monsters = 100xp / 2 = 50xp each.

Non Monetary Treasure = 0

Mission Accomplished = 0

Brufrig and Ferris can each add 50xp to their sheets.

Quest #3 ZOMBIE STOMPING

Chauncey, Wes, Lightfinger, Saracen, Brufrig, Ferris, (and Alordan) defeated one carnivorous ape, one black panther, and two giant centipedes. They found a concealed trail that runs in a westerly direction into the jungle that was covered with small boot prints, but were unable to make it to the end to see where it leads. They did find one abandoned campsite on the trail, about 2 hours in.

Monsters = 700xp

Non Monetary Treasure = 0

Mission Accomplished = Saracen brought the centipedes back to town, but the 400 pound ape was never recovered. (+50 for bringing back a little meat) I will also throw in another 150xp for finding the trail to.....

Total = 900xp / 6 = 150xp each for the original 6 members.
(Alordan can take 50xp for taking part in the final battle.)

Quest #5 "Gathering River Water"

Wes, Ferris, Saracen, and Alordan
set out to help the townsfolk gather water and to check out the river. (and beyond) They found the black cliffs and some obvious caves on the opposite side of the river. They also discovered a trail that follows the waterway up into the jungle. (S+A also spotted a strange water monster that was watching them from under the surface of the ocean as they passed along the beach)

Monsters = 0

Non Monetary Treasure = 0

Mission Accomplished = 400xp

100xp each for Wes, Ferris, Saracen, and Alordan

After the mission:
For finding some Monkoons and saving the elf Devrin....
Saracen and Alordan can each take another 100xp

Quest #1 "Loggers Run"

Raythan, Bonnie, Franny, Krystal, Jack, Luther, and Monocar Made their way up the loggers trail to learn information about the jungle from the loggers. You learned about Lignum trees and that the loggers aren't really loggers. You have also learned of flamboyant captain called Stew Bing.

Krystal, Jack, Luther, and Monocar defeated 28 of the vegepygmy monsters. Luther also found the trail that the zombies used to get into Beachtown.

Monsters = 2800xp

Non Monetary Treasure = 0

Mission Accomplished = 700

Raythan, Bonnie, and Franny will receive 100xp each.

Krystal, Jack, Luther, and Monocar will receive 800xp each.

"Zombie Monster Attack on Beachtown"

Chauncey, Avalaa, Sotha, and Lightfinger
saved the good people of Beachtown from severe damage by killing an undead gorilla-bugbear. They failed to get to the bottom of the mystery of the blinking, big eyed zombie that continues to spy on the area, however.

Monsters = 400xp

Non Monetary Treasure = 0

Mission Accomplished = 0

Chauncey, Avalaa, Sotha, and Lightfinger will receive 100xp each.

A BIG Bump in the XP:


One rather large negative that I have definitely noticed about this game so far is that, with the current allocation of experience points, it is going to take a LOOOOOOONG time to level up for most of you. (especially the multi-classed characters) Since character building is basically the main objective of this game, I think some drastic steps must be taken to address this issue.

Therefore, starting right now and from this point on, I am going to reward a LOT more XP per character for completing “missions”. I am also going to boost up the totals for any general exploration that is done on the island.

So, from now on, every “mission” will be categorized by the level of danger it will take to complete. Simple missions (like feeding the townies) will be considered level 1. More dangerous missions will be graded by their difficulty and will garner a lot more XP for completing them. This should also be a good tool for those of you that want to organize something. A higher ranked “mission” might indicate that it is too big of a challenge to risk until you obtain higher levels for your characters.

Also…..from now on, any of you that just want to explore the island will be rewarded for your efforts as well. Every character involved with investigating any of the unexplored hexes on the map will receive 100 XP per full hex that they explore, regardless of whether they find something interesting or not. If you want to take a group out into the jungle for a while to see what you can find, even if you come back empty handed, you will still receive XP for uncovering new territory.

Quest #9 "Chauncey's Crab Hunt"

Godsday, 23rd of Reaping
Chauncey organized a party to hunt and kill a giant crab to help feed the town. After supervising the construction of a large gravity driven spear trap, the wizard simply cast his sleep magic on the unintelligent crab so it could be dispatched humanely.

Level = 1

Monsters = 90xp

Non Monetary Treasure = 0

Hexes Cleared = 0

Mission Accomplished = 1000xp ea.

Chauncey's bonus for organizing the party = 100xp

Jack, Luther, Monocar, Alordan, Raythan, Lightfinger, Saracen, and Avalaa will receive 1,010xp for doing their part to help feed the starving villagers.

Chauncey will receive 1,110xp for being so darn adequate.

This giant reward is for completing the "feed the town" mission, not from killing one lousy giant crab. :D

Quest #9.5 "Find The Missing Kids"

Waterday, 24th of Reaping
Avaala organized a group to go out and search for the missing children that Randall sent out to find coconuts. They located them 4 miles up the beach to the west and a little ways into the jungle. They were found inside a grey circle of dim light, dancing to the music of a mysterious grey figure that disappeared as soon as the circle was entered.

Level = .5

Monsters = 0

Non Monetary Treasure = 0

Hexes Cleared = 0

Mission Accomplished = 500xp ea.

Avaala's bonus for organizing the party = 100xp

Avaala, Chauncey, Lightfinger, Jack, Raythan, Luther, Monocar, Saracen, and Alordan will each receive 500xp for doing their part to help the kids.

Quest #10 "Beetle Juice"

Earthday, The 25th of Reaping
Chauncey brought a group together to seek out the rumored acid shooting beetles that plague this jungle. He hoped to find one that could be killed easily so that its acid could be harvested and put to use against the sea troll. Instead, he found 4 of them.

Level = .5

Monsters = 4 giant Bombardier Beetles 600xp (75 ea.)

Non Monetary Treasure = 0

Hexes Cleared = 0 (a well used trail there already)

Side Mission Accomplished = 250xp ea. (plus a 250xp reward for all the great role playing) 500xp ea.

Chauncey's bonus for organizing the party = 100xp

Avaala, Monocar, Lightfinger, Jack, Saracen, Alordan, and Luther will receive 575xp for taking part in the mission.

Chauncey will receive 675xp.

Quest #6 “Investigating The River Trail”

Moonday, 22nd of Reaping, Ferris and Waes asked for some help trying to determine why the natives on the island were disappearing. After investigating the river trail for 2 days, their group stumbled into what appears to be a dangerous herb smuggling ring. Captain Bing seems to be the one responsible, though he hasn’t been confronted about it yet.

Level = 2

Monsters Vanquished = 3 Lacedons, 13 large hairy spiders, 1 Adherer, 2 ogres, and 3 first level swashbucklers. 3,615xp total

Non-Monetary Treasure = +1 Longsword (Bonnie) Potion of Healing (Bonnie?) Magical Brazier (Keilif) Crate of Foodstuffs 1,600xp total (also found 5 uncut stones that haven’t been evaluated yet. Krystal holds these)

Total = 5,215xp / 7 = 745xp each

Hexes Cleared = 7 (700xp each)

Mission Accomplished = 1,000xp each for uncovering the slaving drug smugglers. (another 1,000xp can still be made here for putting a stop to it)

Ferris organization bonus = 100xp

Krystal, Bonnie, Brufrig, Waes, Franny, and Keilif will all gain 2445xp.
Ferris will gain 2,545xp.

Now that was a proper adventure! :D

Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"

Sunday, the 28th of Reaping.
Led by the monkoon whispering Luther, his friends Saracen, Monocar, Chauncey, Avaala, Alordan, Lightfinger, Jack, (and originally Devrin) set out to kill the sea troll that was not only harassing the beach travelers, but also messing with the local treefolk. They killed the monster by temporarily trapping it in a sand covered net and then using caustic beetle acid on its watery ass.

Level = 2

Monsters Vanquished = 1 Salt Water Scrag 1400xp

Non-Monetary Treasure = Magic Wax Pencil (Ichabod's Magical Marker) 2000xp
(Seven pearls were also found and are all roughly 100gp in value. That's one each unless you choose to split them up another way.)

Total = 3,400xp / 7 = 486xp each

Hexes Cleared = 0

Mission Accomplished = 2000xp each for killing the troll and making the beach safer to travel. In addition to gaining the release of Owen and opening up a better line of communication with the treefolk, allowing future trading possibilities and also developing new storylines and missions as you work together in the future.

Organization Bonus = Luther 200xp.

Saracen, Monocar, Chauncey, Avaala, Alordan, and Lightfinger each gain 2486xp.
Luther gains 2686xp.

Good times!
I hope the ups and downs in that mission were as fun to play as they were to run.

Quest #11 "Raythan Wants To Make Amends"

Sunday, The 28th of Reaping:
Jaxsen and Raythan went out into the wild to locate a monster that was messing with the phanatons sacred burial site. They found an ally in Storm the Halfling druid, and then recruited the good priest Brother Gilbert to go with them to do some clean-up as well.

Level= .5 (500xp ea)

Monsters Vanquished= 1 Needleman (150xp / 3 = 50xp ea)

Non-Monetary Treasure = 0

Hexes Cleared = 2 (200xp ea)

Organization Bonus = Jaxsen gains an extra 100xp

Total = 750xp each for Brother Gilbert and Storm (Raythan) Jaxsen gains 850xp

Due to the strangeness, I sorta combined those two encounters together for figuring the xp. Deal with it. :lol:

Quest #13 "Whats On The Green Flash?"

Godsday, The 2nd of Goodmonth:
Saracen and Avaala rowed out to investigate the Green Flash, a small sailing ship anchored out to sea near the mouth of the river. They rescued a kidnapped boy and a half-orc prisoner, but weren't able to take over the vessel or collect any important information about the smugglers.

Level= .5 (500xp ea)

Monsters Vanquished= 2 Sailors, 1 Bugbear (320xp / 2 =160xp ea)

Monetary Treasure= 0

Hexes Cleared= 0

Organization Bonus= Saracen gains an extra 100xp

Total= 660xp for Avaala and 760xp for Saracen

Quest #12 "Rapping With The Village People"

Moonday, the 2nd of Goodmonth: Lightfinger had talked his group into bypassing the ship at sea in order to get to the river trail unnoticed. The group wanted to get to a native village up the trail unseen by the ship so they could find out what happened to the first party that went out that way. After meeting up with a group of 5 sailors at the clearing of the burnt village, they decided to rush in and attack them. They killed 3 and got some questionable information out of the other 2 before they fled into the jungle.

Level= .5 (500xp each)

Monsters Vanquished= Three 2nd level Fighters (600xp)

Monetary Treasure= 100gp total in loose coin and small gems (20gp each)

Magical Treasure= ??? (no armor or weapons were taken from the dead men, though Chauncey did take their little signaling devices)

Hexes Cleared= 0

Organization Bonus= Lightfinger gains an extra 100xp (I couldn't actually find any conclusive evidence of LF leading the way, but I think I remember it being his idea. Please correct me on this if I am mistaken.)

Total XP= 620XP for Chauncey, Luther, Monocar, and Alordan. Lightfinger will receive 720xp.

Congrats to Monocar and Lightfinger for leveling! Our very first 4th level character!!! :D

Quest #16 "Hunting and Exploring East of the River"

Earthday, the 4th of Goodmonth:
Wes set out on a one day adventure to see what could be found on the other side of the river. Taking a tiny elf named Gwen along with him for support, they were the first folks from Beachtown who dared to make the crossing. They got a closer look at a large cave opening, decorated with shiny and colorful accoutrements. They also spotted macabre offerings of some kind hanging in the nearby trees. Following the cliff face into the jungle, they explored a 2 mile area, finding barefoot human tracks near the cliffs and heavy boot prints alongside the river. They also spotted the smugglers ship, hidden behind a large outcropping of cliffs. Killing a giant lizard on their way back to town, they met up with a newcomer elf named Galanthas who soon befriended the half-elf. After a short confrontation with the phanatons along the beach, and a not so friendly meet up with three hyenas, the trio eventually made it back with plenty of meat to offer the town.

Level= .5 (500xp each for W+Gw)

Monsters Vanquished= 1 Giant Lizard and 3 Hyenas (370xp total for W+Ga)

Monetary Treasure= 0

Magical Treasure= 0

Hexes Cleared= 2 (200xp each)

Organization Bonus= Wes gains an additional 100xp for putting the mission together.

Total XP= Galanthas gains 385xp, Gwen 885xp, Wes 985xp)

Congrats on finally reaching 3rd level!!! :D

Quest #17 "Hunting Up The Loggers Trail"

Freeday, 5th of Goodmonth:
Hoping to help out the townspeople with a bit more food, but not wanting to get too far from town, Wes, Greff, and Galanthas took a trip up the loggers trail to see if they could spot some wild game. They found a few unfriendly dwarves disguised as large rocks that chased them away from a side trail and were then chased back into town by a strange giant blue chicken.

Level= .5 (500xp ea for discovering the dwarves trail and their nasty disposition while also bringing in some more food for the town)

Monsters Vanquished= 1 Axbeak 60xp (20ea)

Monetary Treasure= 0

Magical Treasure= 0

Hexes Cleared= 0

Organization Bonus= I couldn't tell if someone organized this hunt, or if it was a mutual agreement. So I will divide this bonus up equally amongst the three of you. (33xp ea.)

Total XP= 553xp each for Wes, Greff, and Galanthas

Quest #18 "In Search Of Dragons!"

Sunday, 7th of Goodmonth
After hearing Mr. Nehru tell them about the possibility of a dangerous dragon near the river, Wes organized a few others to go out and investigate the threat. They crossed the river and took a very deadly look into the Sea Hags cave. After losing 3 friends, they managed to take the hag and her slinky pet down. Greff was paralyzed, and they had to leave behind one crying baby, but eventually they managed to make it back to town alive.

Level= 3 (3,000xp each) :shock:

Monsters Vanquished= 1 Sandworm (400xp) and 1 Sea Hag (1,400xp) 600xp each.

Monetary Treasure= 3 gold baubles worth a total of 225gp. (75gp each)

Magical Treasure= ? (300xp total) 100xp each.

Hexes Cleared= 0

Organization Bonus= Wes will receive a bonus of 100xp for organizing the mission.

Total XP= 3,700xp each for Greff, and Galanthas. Wes will receive 3,800xp
