Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters"
Re: Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters
Jaxsen Reiter
Upon hearing the noise around the corner, Jaxsen stops rubbing the creosote off his hands and swings his halberd from his back to a ready position. He backs to the opposite wall and near the pit, giving himself as much room to his front as he can. He takes just a second to wave at the others, point to his ear, and then to the corner, to let them know he heard something.

Avaala the Grey
Avaala continues to be engaged by the nature of the green slime and the pit. He grabs the top of his staff, and tries to reach the bottom of the pit. He will not let the top one foot of the staff enter the slime, so if the pit is deeper than seven feet, he will not reach the bottom.

Re: Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters
Saracen watches the mage continue with his experiments with the pit. He sees the nimble monk swing over the pit and begin to scrape his hands frantically.
As he sees the novice stand on guard and indicate there is something over there, the holy champion bosses to the others to be still and points at Jaxen. He lowers his flail to rest upon the wall beside him and takes out his bow and knocks an arrow, praying to Pholtus his aim is true.

Re: Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters
Storm continues to look about this side of the pit. Seeing the affects of the black goo upon Jaxsen, the little aspirant will consider its uses as a weapon, for possible collection, and is about to ask if anyone has a spare glass vial on them when he hears the half-off hiss and looks over the pit. Watching Saracen grab his bow the Druid unpacks his sling and sets a bullet into it, ready to chuck if any enemy appears.

unaware of what is going on back in the tunnel Gramble identifies the right tree and begins chopping.

Maag
Having been working with Gramble and Judson on the tree cutting plan, Maag is still outside, watching Gramble's back as he works on the tree.

Eawad Driftwood
Seeing the druid ready his sling, Eawad does so as well, seeing if he can sidle up near the halfling without upsetting him.

Re: Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters
Inside The Wooden Structure
Freeday, 5th of Goodmonth
Morning, Hot, Humid, Buggy Outside
The nimble monk prepares for the worst once he hears the rustling noise coming towards him from around the corner. He gets into position against the wall and awaits his newest fate. The others still inside the complex prepare to help him any way they can by readying their ranged weapons. The noises stop right at the edge of the next wall and 2 small hairy legs start probing around the corner of the dividing wall near its base. The creature doesn't show itself completely, but Jax is pretty sure it is large spider or some similar type of monster.
As he waits to see if it will charge in to attack him or not, the monk spots two small pegs at chest height sticking out of the wall in the very corner of the structure. Above the pegs is a circular impression that looks like something once sat there. Whatever it was, it seems to be missing now.
Despite the current commotion, Avaala is determined to figure out what this slime pit is all about. He sticks his staff into the green muck as far as he feels comfortable and still doesn't feel a bottom. Pulling it out seems much harder to do with the suction factor causing a bit of resistance. The only thing the mage learns is that his staff is now nearly covered in a bright green snot.
Magg, Judson, and Gramble are still outside looking around for a proper tree to chop down for a make-shift bridge. The huge fighter finds that most of the trees nearby are hardwoods that will be very difficult to chop through with a battle ax. There are several saplings and new growth around this area that might be easier to harvest, though.

I can cut down the smaller ones and bundle them together with rope. spreading the weight across a greater surface area will keep it form breaking.

Jaxsen Reiter
Jaxsen moves quietly towards the hairy legs coming around the corner. He notes the hesitancy of the creature and decides to use the wall against it. He raises his halberd, blade side downwards, and lines up for an attack. When a head appears at the corner, Jax will attack, using the edge of the wall itself to guide the blow. He carefully measures the distance against the length of his halberd.
So I suppose that is a "wait" for my move. Jax is looking for something akin to a guillotine effect, using the wall to help insure a hit. I am looking for a 'to hit' bonus.

Avaala the Grey
'OK,' Avaala thinks. 'That might explain setting off that trap detection spell. This stuff will suck you down like quicksand.'
Noting the Monk's situation, Avaala sets his staff against the wall to let the slime drain off, and gets ready to cast a spell if needed.

Re: Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters
The spiders legs tap on the floor a few times as Jaxsen moves in for the kill. It then backs up again, around the corner and out of the monk's sight.
It continues chattering and tapping loudly just on the other side of the wall.

Maag
The half-orc listens to Gramble's plan and ruminates over the practicalities, the logistics, the physics and various other aspects of it for several long moments. Eventually he delivers his verdict: "Well, it's better dan a kick up the arse wiv an open-toed sandal. Let's do it".

Beware the other entrances, keep an eye out above and behind us, I think the spiders may be upon us. calls Saracen training his bow above him, knocked and ready.

Storm, who has been curious about the possibility of being able to scrape off the black goop and possibly use it as a weapon, turns around and watches the rear with his sling ready, at the ugly half-orc’s words.

Jaxsen Reiter
When the spider legs retreat, so does Jaxsen. He quietly pulls back to his previous location. 'Trapsters and devious enemies. I'll not walk into their trap.' thinks the monk. He has no doubt that to walk around that corner is to run into several of those things.

Avaala the Grey
Seeing that the spider threat seems to be averted for at least a moment or two, Avaala spares a glance at his staff.
Is the slime draining off of it?

Brother Gilbert
He is watching what is happening, and gets out his mace and shield. The spider monsters are real enough, and he has no desire to meet one. The green goop must keep them inside the structure. The sealed door near the entrance may prove to be more promising.
I am behind you, but stay away from the spiders.

Eawad Driftwood
As the group continues to discuss giant spiders, Eawad grows more nervous. He glances about, wondering from which direction they might be approached. Absently, he begins to finger the medallion around his neck, even as he begins looking around for shadows to hide in. He still has his sling readied, though, and watches the druid for a cue as to when it might be time to let loose a shot.
