Out-of-character chat

#1 Post by tumblingdice »

DM questions, strategy, vacation announcements, etc.
These are ghouls. They hang out in graveyards, they have long tongues, and they eat people.

We've got an elf, dwarf, wizard, cleric and Craigers07 is playing a thief. No halflings or human fighters yet.

Make that sans Elf, and two Dwarves!

Characters are looking good so far, though I'm puzzled by Sumo's character's Axe to Face spell. Is that something from Unearthed Arcana? Maybe from a page I lost when the binding broke. :)

Oh how I love thee - two reasons:

1) your humor
2) the level of depth to which you apply yourself when reading character sheets in their detail(s)

Truly, it saddens me this is your last 'hurrah' (for a while) ~ so to speak. :(

Thanks, Rik. Don't get too sad, though. The adventure hasn't even started yet, and modules can take months to years via pbp. There are still many days of D&D goodness ahead of us.

Rik and Brandon, I'll leave it to you to decide if Hildebad and Gristle are from the local dwarf clan in Karameikos, or hail instead from the distant Rockhome. Can't wait to see those two get on a boat.

Rattler, I love the name Hanequin The Jackal Slayer, Priest of Darokin. I had the old gazetteer for Darokin, and there wasn't much mention of either religion or jackals, but a) who cares? and b) no jackals!? Well, now we know why. Don't change him a bit. Deities don't play a big role in basic D&D and the Known World. There are immortals, but no gods. Make up whatever details you like. Question, though: why does he have so many spells, and so many crossed out?

Spanningtree, glad to see Soldath back in action. We'll see what, if any, terrible misfortune befalls him on this trip.

Craigers, nice picture of Blercer Silenttail, straight out of the old PHB. I can see that when I told you guys not to worry about your characters' clothing, you took my suggestion to heart.

We'll wait a few more days for greyarea, Hagakuri and Bloodaxe. This being the week after the holidays, I expect everyone's catching up with work and their routine.

Also, start figuring out who knows who. You don't all have to start out as an established party.

Well, if it's years then okay. :D
tumblingdice wrote:Rattler, [...] Question, though: why does he have so many spells, and so many crossed out?
Steve, this was my doing because he's playing on a mobile device. My thinking was it would be easier to just use the "memorize" function for all of them, and then he only needs to click one 'button' (on his character sheet) to cross it off when used, then the same to re-memorize.
...it made sense at 3am - for an old dude

If it's not to your liking, or if the rest of our players find that confusing, we can go in and change that. He's on a business/vacation trip with his lady & 3 teens (California, Disney Land, etc.), so he may not be posting too much until his return (mid next week, I think?).

Because he's sans PC, I can make the adjustments, if needed.

Rik, thanks for explaining my spell situation. I hope the current set up works for everyone, because I do appreciate the ease of crossing and uncrossing them as I use and rememmorize them.

Ubetcha! If you were a Magic-User, that would be different because Clerics basically have access to all their spells they're eligible to use as they just pray/meditate for them. Wizard type characters have to actually learn/scribe each particular spell into their spellbook, which is why scrolls are so sought after. If you were a level 4 Magic-User, I would've done the same but only for his/her 'known' spells.

Ok, my stats are :
Str 17
Int 12
Wis 11
Dex 15
Con 15
Chr 10
Are we able to move them around and switch points 2:1 ? (p. 7 Choosing Class)
I think I'll be a Fighter.

How do I use that fancy character sheet?
