Deckplans

Type A-J2 Far Trader

The hull design is a venerable design dating back to the days of the Vilani 1st Imperium, when it was adapted by the Terrans from the Vilani. The original Terran Confederation Navy designation for the ship class was simply "Type A." When Terrans asked what the ships were called, their crews often responded disigshar, which means "sandwich filled with a variety of sliced meats and vegetables." This was an example of Low Vilani slang, commenting on the ships'less than elegant appearance and pedestrian mission. However the most popular early Vilani to English translation program of the time translated the word disigshar as "hero" (for hero sandwich). The name stuck, and eventually even the Vilani adopted Siigiizuni ("heroic person") as a designation for Hero-class ships operating under Terran command.

While nominally a modified free trader, this far trader has a series of modifications that have become accepted as standard, and many free traders are either modified to this specification or are built this way from new. The far trader swaps cargo space and low berths for a larger jump drive and fuel tank, allowing it to reach systems a basic free trader cannot travel to. While less cargo can mean less profits, the ability to reach further systems or to travel between stars at a faster rate can more than make up for this in the hands of a clever captain.

This particular hull is 25 years old, and was bought at a 20% discount with an additional 1 MCr. ship share included. Its thrusters are old and unreliable (-1 to Pilot checks) and the ship itself has taken a beating (-1 DM to repair attempts). Notably it was fitted with concealed compartments in place of the normal 6 low berths of this design.
