I'm hoping that Splinters will find something in that pile that will trigger some memories of the dimly remembered life before the transformation, if at all. Apparently it's all so far back it's really hard to remeber anything at all. Or those wooden neurons don't work as well as one would expect. :)
I run a blog. I also run a site for campaign wikis. I wrote a face generator, a character generator, a dungeon mapper, a Traveller subsector generator, and a hex map generator (editable as text).

Unless we just want to fight a giant wooden man, we're not getting upstairs without a plan and could be in this room for weeks of real time.

What do you all think of Deet's idea? The nutcracker seems to only react to speech or someone on the stairs, so let's rush him, wrap his legs in rope, and up the stairs while he's toppling over. What could possibly go wrong?

I certainly am not up to fight the giant nutcracker I think we (Kurt and Hans) will stand back and watch ;)

As much as I love my PbP games, I need to step away.

I spent the last week (Spring Break) with my family and the time off made me recognize that I am overcommitted. Work, school, family (a toddler and one on the way), and other little writing projects.... It's too much and I need a break.

I'm sorry that this is abrupt.I've wrestled with working through this, writing me out, etc. But I think that I need to address some personal issues now.

I hope that another time, I can join your games again. I've enjoyed them immensely.

Sincerely,

Michael

Michael, 1000% understood. You are always welcome back at my gaming table.

Would you like to have Brick and Langston depart company with the party, perhaps in hope of them rejoining, some day, or would you like them to carry on as NPC cannon-fodder?

Michael it's perfectly understandable most all of us can relate to that good luck with it all and once things calm down a bit I hope to see you back here. :)

Thanks, everyone. I've loved these PbP games. If you'all want to stay connected, you can find me over at G+: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+MichaelJulius or Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mjulius

Pulp: Fantastic game! You are uniquely talented. In regards to characters... I never really figured Langston out so you can keep him as a human shield if necessary - it's pretty much how I used him. On the other hand, Brick, for whatever reason, really clicked with me. He's all id. So yeah, I'd like to play him again either here or elsewhere. I may even stat the rest of him out and flailsnail him some uncrazy day.

Signing off..

I've been thinking a lot about how to streamline things for PbP play. Into the Odd is a seriously streamlined ruleset to begin with, but I'd like to propose a little rules change, if you're up to it.

The attributes in ITO are reactive Saving Throws. You only roll them in response to a potentially dangerous outcome. As a player, your job is to try to describe your actions with enough plausibility and caution that you don't trigger a Save.

So, rules-as-written: you describe a course of action, I ask you for a save, you roll, and then I tell you the result. At the table, this is an exchange of seconds, but at PbP rates, it can take a week or more.

I propose that the GM takes over Save rolls. This reduces the above to two steps: You describe an action, I roll and describe the outcome. Much zippier.

The question is whether or not this removes agency from the player. I would say it doesn't, since the roll is triggered by your described action. The only thing that changes is who triggers the randomization of the outcome.

But, I don't want to discount the magic power of triggering the random. There's a dopamine jolt that comes with that split-second where success and failure hang in the balance.

Where do you guys land on this?

I'm totes ok with GM rolled saves, personally.

In other news, I'll be at GaryCon starting tomorrow, Thursday, through Sunday, ( 8-) ) with sparse posting as a result. I'll try to weigh in, but please NPC Wikerus if it becomes necessary. Remember: he's kind of an idiot. No move is a bad move. ;)

I'm content with the GM rolling saves

Yes, streamlining sounds good and I don't think I'll feel like I am missing anything by not rolling for myself.
