I suppose if you don't like using free retro-clones like Delving Deeper (OD&D Rules), Labyrinth Lords (D&D Basic/Expert Moldvay/Cook Rules), or OSRIC (AD&D 1e Rules).
But who wants to play any of those, amiright?

Dave, I think you're going to really struggle with the Grand Canyon-like gap of power between 1e and 5e. I've listened to quite a few live play pod casts and almost all of them played lower levels where all players basically advanced after every adventure. It was consistent enough that I wondered if it was something discussed in the rules.
Anyway, Shaede, if you ever decide to go OSR, you can find plenty of games here in the original or clone rules and you'd always be welcome.
Otherwise, you boys have fun with your 5e!
