Hello, pleased to make you <virtual> acquaintance!!

#1 Post by sirlou »

Hello everyone,

I'm sirlou, an avid gamer, GM, and writer of fantasy adventures.

I've been meaning to register here for a while, since I learned of it, and had not gotten around to it until now...so consider this one New Year's Resolution ticked off!!

I've been playing D&D since I was about 9 years old, with the original Basic version of the game in 1977. Good heavens its 2017 now, so that's 40 years!! I've also played 2nd Ed. a lot, as well as a bit here and there of 3rd Ed and a little 5th Ed. I also played a million other D&D type variants over the years (Tunnels & Trolls, MERP, Runequest, etc.) as well as lots of sci-fi, cyberpunk, superhero and other type RPGs. I've played various meta systems like GURPS, Palladium, etc. I also played a zillion PC RPGs as well as online RPGs. I played a ton of MUDs back in the day and GM'd a lot of IRC D&D and Shadowrun adventures -- but I've never played in a play-by-email game.

My real gaming craze is Old School gaming, 1st Ed. and OSRIC currently. This is where my writing is focused, and if you are interested in learning about my writing you can check out my website and my twitter, which are in my signature.

Anywho, I'm excited about joining you all here!!

Cheers!

sirlou

Welcome aboard! Plenty of Old School games being run here, you should be able to find something to tickle your fancy.
Sometimes this summer I will most likely be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

Welcome Lou!!
1E and OSRIC are well represented here, as are other OSR games.
Wonderful to have you!
Be well,
--Ron--
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Thanks for all the welcome messages!! Much appreciated!!

Now that I've passed the Turing Test, I'll go kick the tires around the forums and see what's what.

Never played in a play by mail or play by email adventure, any tips, advice, or starting points would be most welcome!!

cheers,

sirlou

You may want to check out the 'Tips for the Player' section, but I think the following two discussions will be especially helpful: Just dive in, have fun, and ask questions as needed. I'm sure you'll fit right.

Good luck!

Yes! I've followed her for a long time now, and enjoyed her book as well, so I jumped at the chance to meet her at a book signing near me.

Oh, then how can I not mention this?
Starry Knight Press: About wrote:"Second, I made some wonderful new friends, including Greg Covey of Unseen Servant Press. Here was a guy just like me who had actually published his own module, in an amazing professional, top-notch, completely badass manner."
Agreed on this as well.

You're definitely in the right place, friend. ;)

Your beard is much more awesome now. Is that a result of colder New England weather?

The "beard" I was sporting in the last Skype session is long gone, and was just a result of my laziness and not wanting to shave.

And, the move out east never happened and I'm still stuck in Illinois. :(

Still liked the beard.

If you oil it, that makes it not just being lazy.

Funny story about this:

My oldest, Sarah, was video chatting with a classmate this past weekend when she turns her laptop at me so her friend could see me. I chat with her friend for a about a minute before turning the laptop back towards Sarah. As Sarah is walking away, her friend says:

"Sarah, I think your dad needs to shave."

She was probably right.
