Pft... they should call it "Next?"
I wasn't going to play test but I was really hoping they learned a lesson when Piazo kicked their ass in the wallet.
It's sad to see a childhood icon morphed into such a... Pile of orc doo.
The sad thing is that, like 4.0, they ask for all of these testers because they "Want an RPG made for RPGrs " then they disregard what those testers tell them and do it their way anyway. You know, a lot of us Beta Testers chat and converse on different forums. When I get 50+ of them saying the same things I'm saying, and it's all ignored...it's just such a waste of time...
DnD is being turned into a game that is TOO MUCH like a computer game and not a PnP RPG . Maybe that's what this generation wants.

They asked me to test it too, but I declined basically because I just wasn't that interested. I stopped caring after 3.5. Playtested 4.0 at Gen Con and wasn't impressed at all. By then, Paizo had my interest and Pathfinder was heating up like a red dragon's breath, so I switched over to Pathfinder. However, every game I joined either died a cruel death or was going so slow (and we all know pbp's can be slow) I felt I was going backwards, so I left.
Finally found me way back into 1E and 2E...but still got a lot of love for 3.5. Just wish I had more time to run a game.
Winter is coming...

I always liked 1st edition, probably because it's what I cut my teeth on, then fell in love with 2nd edition when they released the options books. 3.5 fixed a lot of 2nd edition, and piazo "3.75" fixed 3.5.
Which do I like best? Oof! Love 1st edition for simplicity, love 3.5/3.75 for more versatility.
Recommendation is scrap it all and play BASIC Roleplaying from Chaosium.

I stopped caring after 3.5. Playtested 4.0 at Gen Con and wasn't impressed at all.
I stopped caring when I "tested 3e" personally my view is 3e/3.5e/4e and Next aka 5e all look alike to me, they play the same to me and suck evenly to me. Needless to say WotC I am unimpressed.
I'm an "old school" D&D person and I plan to stay that way. 2e 2.5e and 1e all the way. Thats my opinion and wow we just turned a welcome threat into a edition chat/war thread lol sorry bout that. ;)

EDITED to include 5th edition D&D, which I HIGHLY recommend :)

tooleychris wrote:A cold chill runs down, you, the Game Masters spine, as yet another greenhorn with delusions of grandeur and aspirations of unattainable greatness dares to stand before your magnificence. A blatant sneer of contempt and over confidence crosses his face as he opens his dirty hide backpack and begins tossing relics of ages past to the foot of your throne.*

"These..." shouts the noob, "These are trophies of my previous conquests!" You stare down from your lofty seat of high station at the plaques gathering at your feet. Amongst them you see the familiar tomes 1st edition Dungeons & Dragons, Star Frontiers, Top Secret, Car Wars, 2nd 3rd, 4th edition(UGH), and finally 5th edition (which rocks!) Dungeons & Dragons, FASA Trek, Starwars, Serenity, Basic Role playing, Dark Sun, Alternate, Gamma World...and still the arrogant fool continues to remove tome after tome from his worn pack.
Rolemaster, MERP, CODA...

"ENOUGH!" proclaims you, the Dungeon Master, with a roar as soft as thunder. "Why come you hither, if more than to litter my throne room with relics of days gone by?"

Cowering from the verbal lashing the noob responds meekly "T -t-to find favor in thy sight, Master of a thousand dungeons. To be accepted into thy arms and welcomed into adventures thou hast yet prepared. Will thou haveth me not?"

*You, the Dungeon Master furrows your brow in quiet contemplation. At last a decision is made and your icy glare humbled the newcomer further as he awaits your ruling *

Okay. That was fun. I'm an old school player (mostly Dungeon Mastering/GMing) of the above mentioned game systems. Since 1970s I've had my finger in dang near every pie. I also enjoy computer Role-playing Games and have played everything from Zork to my Favorite (so far) game, Neverwinter Nights2 for which I was a server Dungeon Master as well.

My group of table top players doesn't meet nearly enough to quench my RP appetite and I am hoping to do so here. I'm mostly interested in 1st edition Dungeons & Dragons and Gamma World but...am open and at least moderately proficient in most other systems. Hope to see you in game!

What pretty Easter water (the blue water in the toilet). Welcome to the site. There is some good variety with systems to choose from. Wander at will.

Oi! I resemble that remark!
;)
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.
