Lafiska are a minor alien race mostly found in the Spinward Marches.
  • The Lafiska are small insectoid like creatures about 1.5 meters tall with high intelligence and high dexterity. They weigh 30 to 40 kg. They have a hard exoskeleton and are bi-lateral, but with 6 limbs. All of the limbs are usable to manipulate tools. Lafiska are typically found wearing hooded robes that cover all but their faces and the ends of their forelimbs.

    Lafiska's speech is too high for human hearing, but they can communicate using translators that they wear around their upper thorax. The translations are not of the highest quality so what humans hear is a sing-songy pidgin. This leads some Humans/Vargr/Aslan to underestimate the Lafiska's intelligence.

    Lafiska are from a low tech world originally, but colonies have spread to almost all worlds in the area. Lafiska are not especially comfortable in large open areas, and their colonies are typically a warren of buildings or in some cases a complex of tunnels below a city or town.

    You will mostly find Lafiska working in skilled trades and as specialized fabricators. A Lafiska speciality is the manufacture of clothing. Lafiska preferred colors are mostly up in the ultra violet, so, simply look blue to Humans, but to a Lafiska they are a riot of colors and patterns. When making clothing for Humans, Vargr or Aslan they use goggles to change the frequence they are seeing so they can produce clothing pleasing to their clients. Lafiska garments are usually of a very finely woven silk-like fabric. This Lafiska Cloth is light in weight, but extremely tough, giving some protection from blade and claw attacks and even a little protection from slugs and pellets. Scouts swear by Lafiska Cloth and have taught the Lafiska how to produce their favored Hawaiishirts, but Lafiska produce every thing from tailored suits and dresses to the exterior of hightech "skin suits" that can take the place of vacc suits in all but the harshest enviornments.
