McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Pocc remains on standby with a reserve of sailors to maintain order on the McGregor. He has an armoury of prepared spells and Roger and Gaston spit and snap around his neck, speaking mock curses learned in the McGregor below decks underworld. Their language is not the sort taken from Poccs' study books to be sure. Gaston confesses being fed a mouse spiced in some liqueur and blushes, his frill widening on his neck. Roger just hoods his cobra shaped head in shame.
Rexlin and pal Fishy rush at the emerging metal figure. They strike it with hard blows but their edged weapons fail to pierce the 'tin can', instead scoring huge scratches down the side of its head and body. Geoffrey slices at the creatures torso but again the attacks are ineffective. His men subdue the remaining marines by the cabin. The figure prods at Rex and Fishy, Golem: net and spear [1d20] = 18 [1d20] = 16 [2d4+2] = 5+2 = 7 touching them both with the electric blue sparking spear point. (roll a save vs paralysis please Rexlin and -1hp) golem spear damage [1d6] = 1 [1d6] = 2 Ignoring the pair the golem tries to cross the rails and jump onto the McGregor decks.
Szmodics assaults the remaining halberdier. The fighter stands surrounded by the mob but is able to parry Szmodics blow with his halberd shaft and ducks beneath a frenzied slash. Szmodics injures a comrade in the close quarters, who falls from a severe head wound. The man valiantly retaliates, Henri Halberdier, Szmo, men [1d20] = 9 [2d6] = 12 [1d20] = 1 [2d6] = 8, hefting his weapon in a head-cleaving swipe that just misses and then gets overwhelmed by the mass of grappling hands. He is brought to the floor.
Zoggrot clears the decks with his men. They secure the area and no more men are left to fight. Some uniformed marines by the cannons sleep from mage spell, the barque sailors lift hands up. Zoggrot and his men may frisk them down and with the prow jib the only place of any sails, raise a flag to show the ship has been conquered. Looking over the deck rail for the men who jumped previously, Zoggrot trains his newly acquired pistols to pick out someone to orcishly snipe at. He cannot locate anyone in the water. however.
Siggard and Iggway with allies descend the cargos steps. Similar in design to the previous vessel, there is one remarkable difference. Past all the jumble of crews hammocks and storage crates, at the stern end of the barque is a studded metal wall. A single sealed door with a thick glazed window and a large wheel. Wet booted prints lead from the foot of the door up the flight of wooden steps to one side. (the sound of Geoffrey's pirates can be heard echoing above). To one side of the wide hold a figure cloaked in a bloody white apron checks over some injured men. A few dangle rosary beads from limp hands, eyes closed breathing their last. Siggard casts a furry ball into the midst of the cargo deck, unaware of the impending mayhem he will create. Deciding to 'beef up' his protection. As the ball lands it rolls close to a stretcher. A dying man moans, the fluff moo's...grows in stature and horns, blackens into a matadors dread nightmare, vengeful eyes and cud chewing lips snarl, the cloven hoofed beast scrapes digs a scraped furrow in the boards, snorts angrily, belches almost as thick pea green as the hagsmist and then rampages in the berths.
So ironic that Iberian marines, so awestruck by the gallant prowess of the majestic bull get trampled and riven apart by a water buffalo.
next actions please.

A faint electric hum zips around Rexlin's body. It causes a momentary spasm but unlike Fishy he doesn't collapse to the floor, for his newly acquired amber pangolin scaled cuirass seems to absorb some of the effects of the nerve shocking spear tip. Rexlin, on the ropes but not out the fight may try to land his own knockout blow.

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Siggard is somewhat shocked to see the massive buffalo appear from his small ball of furry magic. He shouts to Gin and Iggy as he kicks at the odd shelled creature at his feet.
"Don't worry, he wont hurt any of us! He will only mess with our enemies and then dissipate once they have all been dealt with."
The mage badly wants to discover what is hidden behind the strange metal door.

Shakes off the ill effects of the electric spear. That hurt a lot less than he anticipated! No time, he thinks, seeing the golem is trying to get to The McG. "Don't let it on the McGregor! It'll rip it apart! Edged weapons are no good, use something else!"
In. Desperate attempt to do some damage, be points his musket up at the thing's head and squeezes off a round.
To Hit [1d20-1] = 8-1 = 7 Dmg [2d6] = 2
If we're still doing double attacks, otherewise, please disregard:
He the drops the musket and aims his pistol.
To Hit [1d20+1] = 18+1 = 19 DMG [2d4+1] = 6+1 = 7

grabs at the arms and legs of the fallen halberdier."Chuck him overboard lads, let's see him swim in that armour!" With his men he drags the body to the rail and hoists him up in the air and into the sea, "Fish food!" he taunts the man.

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Iggway jumps back when she sees a Titonka on ths ship. Gin, can you see anything thru the window on the metal door? Can you hear anything? Sig, we gotta find out what's in there.
Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Zoggrot would not snipe at people in the water. Even if he is half-orc. Racist.Zhym wrote:Zoggrot Grimgut takes the downed officer's pistols. Fat lot of good hot lead did him against Zoggrot's cold steel, but the guns might come in handy sometime.
"Secure the ship!" he commands as he rushes to join the remaining fray.
His stated action was to try to join the others in combat. Can I post attacks for him in that combat, or is there something else to do in the rest of the ship?
Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
For Zoggrot:
The sailors by the prow have surrendered and the living Iberian marines have been put to sleep by a spell. Szmodics has the last halberdier but is going to throw him overboard. The only other foe is the golem figure. It is presently engaged in melee with Rex, Geoffrey and aides and tries to push past them to board the McGregor. It carries a blue tipped sparking spear and a metal net containing some large sea shells. From your position you can fire at that enemy or narrate a move to engage in melee or go downstairs (you can hear the sound of men screaming and a cow mooing!) or explore the officer cabin at the stern.

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
The golem is trying to board the MacGregor? Meaning its back is to Zoggrot?
Are the attacks against the golem totally ineffective so far (i.e., it looks like normal weapons don't do any damage)?

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
the edged weapons didn't pierce or impale the golem but they did score jagged scratches around the breastplate and rib area. The movement of the creature was not affected nor did it react much to the attacks though it was hit by several stabs. You may determine that the sheer number of hits does some damage but not as much as a bludgeoning weapon might. Any enhanced blades would feel more effective. No one has hit it yet with a pistol or musket shot.
The 'golem' is of human-like proportions in size and mass. It will have its' back to you when it climbs over the rails.

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Zoggrot draws his stubby pistol—formerly the armored officer's stubby pistol—and sneaks up behind the golem. When he reaches point-blank range, he fires.
Pistol (THAC0 20): [1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16 [2d4] = 6
Stubby pistol bonus damage: [1d4] = 2
Rolls do not include to-hit bonus for attacking from behind (+4 as thief), x2 point-blank range damage multiplier, or backstab damage bonus, if it applies.

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Siggard does not like the look of the giant clam that is now burrowing into the hull of the ship, but he has no idea how to handle such things. He shouts up from the hold to anyone topside that might be listening.
"Anyone seen Pocc? We could really use someone with a little knowledge about sea creatures down here before this vessel sinks to the bottom as well!!!"

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Pocc reluctantly boards the other ship before it sinks to see what he can assist with.

Pocc can do that but only after he actually hears in character regarding the stuck shell. for now he might want to cope with the metal golem trying to clamber aboard the McGregor with a glowing electrical spear and a net full of giant molluscs...

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Pocc, can you give me a [3d6] vs dex roll to time how long it takes you and the crew to load a cannon, also tell me what kind of shot being used? Traditional round shot, grape shot or chain shot. (see weapons and armour forum for blast notes, range and damage).
give me then a [1d20] to hit roll and either a [4d6] or [3d6] for damage.

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Mooing', Molluscs and Mayhem:
Geoffrey and his pirates connect with savage slashes to the iron figure. Their edged weapons doing blows that would slice a man in half, but this is no mere man. The blades score huge rips in the legs and torso of the golem. Geoffrey slashes against it's throat. Rexlin recovers from an electric spasm to draw his pistol. The shot causes a huge dent in the back of the golem but the shot ricochets into nearby spars of the wood. Zoggrot sneaks up on the harassed golem, point blanking a shot from the pistol taken from the cloven chief. The stubby pistol has a big recoil and blasts a metal cranium plate off the head of the golem. Clockwork digits, rivets and ochre liquid spill out and run down the spine, some acidic juice sizzles on the floor. The golem lights up in a distinctive outline, (like that warm feeling you get from eating winter porridge), The faerie fire of the sea druid illuminating the golem. Following orders, Pocc's eye patched marauders blast the creature as it steps on the rails. The cannon fired grape shot pierces the creatures body plates and exit the other side, carrying with them more spurting liquids and screws. Firing at such close range and into a melee, the impact of the shot causes massive collateral damage to all those engaged in melee with the creature. Rex, Geoff, Zoggrot, Please make a [4d6] hard dex saving throw or take full damage from the scatter-gun effect.-13hp, successful saves take -6hp
The golem, riddled with molten cannon shot and with its cranium blown away, rocks unsteadily on the cusp of gaining a foothold on the McGregor's Revenge. It prods vainly at its foes with the blue tipped spear. A last discharge crackles but to no avail. Gas seeps from ripped vents all over its shattered body. The sloop and the barque are tied together but loosely, the sea ebbing a widening gap between the two vessels. With life force ebbing in a widening gap in the golems own functions, the metal enchanted figure lurches overboard. With a splash it lands, vainly raising an arm to swim before submerging to a rusty doom in the briny sea.
Everyone within a 10'ft radius of the golem prior to it falling overboard, which includes all the folk who failed a saving dex throw against the cannon blast need to make a save vs poison please. If you passed the cannon dex save then you have rolled more than 10'ft away. Pocc make a save too please.
Golem: net and spear [1d20] = 5 [1d20] = 2 [2d4+2] = 3+2 = 5
meanwhile below decks, buffalo Bill gores and tosses the Iberian sailors below decks. It takes a bloody revenge for all the murder of its' bovine cousins in the many famed arena. Siggard and Iggway are able to slip by the beast and look through the metal door porthole. The room beyond is dark but several white patterned shields look like they hang around the walls. A smell of salt comes from the door though it seems sealed with a large rubber ring around the frame. As a thought Siggard remembers the large clam like shell the sailor dropped. It resembles the shields. It remains unmoving at the bottom of the stairs but is very tightly suctioned to the floor. The metal door is raised a few feet above the floor boards, so you have to step over to gain access to inside. The door is shut and seems to open by turning the wheel. The clam by the stairs has sunk maybe a few millimetres into the decking floorboards.
Szmodics throws the plate mailed halberdier overboard. Like the golem, he too disappears vainly waving an arm. A few figure clutch the bottom rib of the hulls. Four sailors, thrown overboard by the poisonous hag cloud and deadly cannon fire climb up the side netting. They surrender meekly and join the other sailors in a meek huddle beneath the newly raised flag of the McGregor.
Congratulations, the Sierra Nevada is yours.
