Pocc continues to converse privately with his ettin snake friend while awaiting orders from the captain to head back to the ship.

Feeling betrayed by the Padre's lack of honesty regarding the true nature of the virus affecting the settlers the group of pirates round up to head back to the sloop.

"I understand your fears Padre Claude, letting on the children were infected by a were-curse may not have brought many ships sailing to the rescue. Has it is, my debt to you and my duty has been repaid. Though how we manage these feral youth as the moon rises who can tell. I will risk no more of my men (generic with ladies present!), and these ant-venom potions will amply cover any bribes needed to resettle your ship-wrecked lives elsewhere. Strength and fortitude to you my friend."

Captain Lazarus salutes the padre and hugs the Sisters Cecilia and Beatrix goodbye. he doubts with native unrest wether he will see them again. In a gesture of accord he offers the farmers the muskets as an extra boon to fend off any native attack. (Rexlin minus 1 musket and bayonet)

Elijah Crowthorne sees the folks swigging away with flagons at the traders store. He berates their idle hands and warns them of the dangers of drunkenness before indulging in a 'small ale' himself. He offers to Rexlin an extra shot,"to boost yer morale and spiritual strength though I canna do nowt about yer brainz" he pours out a few sips of his extra-healing potion, extra healing 1/3 [1d8] = 8 (+8 hp Rexlin).

Folk shake hands, some more reluctant than others. Best wishes, strength and fortitude offered around. Iggway has her precious research notes and a set of experimental equipment and serpents in a sealed vivarium tank. With the chapel still under threat and the Infirmary laboratory wrecked, she needs to conclude her secondment to Monte Verde elsewhere. Rexlin carries his swag bag of loot, Pocc has found two new best friends. Siggard also has a swag bag but bulging slit eyes and forked tongue leer menacingly at anyone peering into his sack. Geoffrey is glad he can peer anywhere, the cobra venom thankfully gone from his stinging eyes. Elijah has filled up his Poseidon blessed waterskin with a gallon of Holy Water from the baptistery. Holden has a set of new tales to put into song and a copy of Sister Adelaide's psalm Chant spell. Zoggrot carries a bite scar from a couple of asps and a red bruised 'hickey' bite mark from Sister Cecilia which he declines to show off. His face masked by bone shards and his leather armour covered with the vestments of the shaman he clove in half.

With that the men lead off down the partially cut trail into the dense forest and down the steep undulating hillsides to the cove where the jolly boat was kept. About an hours trek into the forest, point men cutting vines and bracken with heavy blades and steering the file clear of snakes, wandering snakes [1d6] = 1 tribesmen [1d6] = 2 you hear the ominous tolling of the Mission chapel bell. After a pause to listen, the escaping file of pirates and refugees continue.

wandering snakes [1d6] = 6 tribesmen [1d6] = 1

In the thick greenery, it is hard to see too far ahead, easy to both hide and remain hidden in the undergrowth. Broad spreading coverage of trees fighting to gain the sunlight limits even the dawning light to play as shadows around you. Halting on a game trail for a breather in the humid environment the party catch the sound of natives voices off to one side."Down there, among the groves, I scent them, down there" voices call in Olmaic. Captain Lazarus signals folks to hush and draws his claymore blade and pistol. He nods to a few men to form the rear guard action with him and signals the rest to continue with the children and settler womenfolk down to the beach landing. One group moves off through the wild sycamore copse downhill, after a few tense minutes a burst of scaly colours erupts from behind some bushes. Four writhing snake-men and a following group of native warriors rush the alerted defenders.

Okay, choose a party group, the rear guard or the settlers and give me an action post or attack roll please everyone.

Grins at the old salt's words and happily takes the swig of Healing Potion, feeling it work it's way through his vains and stretches as the wounds begin to close and bruises let up through his limbs. "Aye, thank you, Brother Elijah. Much appreciated. Now I feel ready to do the gods dirty work."

To Blood: "You'll be a bit longer gettin laid lad!" Laughing at Elijah's puzzled look he exits to the formations gathering near the captain.

Rexlin falls in early with the rear guard, Sword and pistol at the ready. On seeing the mutated natives burst through the forrest he fires without hesitation.

Rexlin pistol shot, point blank range [1d20+1] = 20+1 = 21 damage [2d4+1] = 8+1 = 9

Do the warriors Scales count for this?

Siggard is tired! Very tired!!! And his magic has been completely spent. He didn't just hump several miles through the jungle, with zero sleep, carrying a heavy statue, just so he could die right here in the mud, only a short ways away from the relative safety of the ship. He keeps his distance from those more willing to charge in at the oncoming natives, preferring to stay out of the reach of their vicious swords.

He backs up a few steps, reaching into his pouch, and pulls out a simple cloth bag. Sticking his hand inside the bag, he draws forth a furry ball of........fur and throws it in the direction of the lead warrior. He smirks a little, thinking about the battle against the terrible Yung-ti warrior, all the while Face is looking out for anything that might sneak up behind the group.

Zoggrot steps into the bushes, where he hopes to hide and strike at the attackers from behind.

Boarding axe (THAC0 20): [1d20+1] = 5+1 = 6. Dmg: [1d6+3] = 3+3 = 6/[1d4+3] = 2+3 = 5 (SM/L) +4 for attacking from behind, if any of the attackers happen to be AC 10...

Holden

Holden stays wit the rear guard behind the first line,, he draws his new short sword and raises it talking to the captain specifically to inspire him, "We stand here to defend the weak, the helpless, we stand here for duty, for our captain, for our brethren and sisters! We shall not fall for the enemy's petty reasons, WE STAND!"

The escaping settlers continue down the hillside, fleeing quickly the attacks of the pursuing snake men. Pascale cuts the way forward with Elijah who swears he can taste the sweet salt air blowing in from the reef. He shepherds the afflicted children with his trident, prodding the slow ones to 'hurry, hurry'. Iggway feels the group are heading close by the tribal menstrual camp and veers a course wide of the area so as not to entangle the adolescent girls in the troubles. As for the fate of the injured old crone she can only peer and wonder at Erik, who remains still under the influence of the were-blood curse.

The rear guard make their stand, some back-to-back, others flitting between the beech and sycamore trunks.

A huge snake-man warrior bursts through the bushes, twirling his spear expertly through a series of acrobatic feints and lunges. Rexlin is not amused or impressed, simply drawing the bronzed pistol and shooting the snake man in the temple from point blank range. The critical hit and max damage redeeming his martial prowess after several trap finding disasters. (See clip of Indiana Jones and arab in market place for same effect.)

Holden inspires the men with a rousing anthem, his bardic skill amplifying the Captains accuracy and Lazarus thrust through one of the natives with a slash from his gilded claymore. Forced into the fray, Holden draws the envoys' blades from his waist scabbard. Unused to their weight and fighting two-handed in the serpent creatures style he still amazingly hits a snake-man twice despite the penalties incurred. Holden shortswords [1d20-3] = 19-3 = 16 [1d20-1] = 16-1 = 15 damage [1d6+1] = 1+1 = 2 [1d6+1] = 1+1 = 2. The warrior impaled through both rib cages and groans in death.

Geoffrey Blood lives up to his name, severing a snake man through the jugular and leaving a spurting fountain of crimson to drain from the mans neck.

Pocc hacks and slashes at the nearest foes but they dodge his blows, Zoggrot also leaps from concealment to strike into the back of an opponent who survives his lunge.

Siggard throws a fluffy toy at a snake man... the hand sized ball of fluff amazingly grows in proportion as it 'slo-mo's' through the air to land on the snake mans' chest a large, angry, animated and very agitated Baboon. The creature beats his chest and the chest of the snake man before leaping into the branches of a nearby tree and snarling viciously. The sudden surprise stops the slithering warrior in his tracks and he pokes a spear at the new red arsed apparition before him.

Goldie and Grimwald complete the defensive force, though they are ineffective with their melee strikes. It proves a disaster as both receive minor wounds, Goldie taking two stabs with spears, Griwald pierced again in his previous healed thigh. his clubbed by a critical hit.

The natives press their attacks, most fail, Lazarus and Zoggrot feel the cut of native blades. zog and Capt damage [1d6] = 6 [1d6] = 1 The half-orc getting a critical clubbing bringing him once again to the verge of death.(-6hp).

With no side giving quarter, the melee continues.

next attack rolls and spells please, you face 1 live snake man and almost a dozen natives.

natives [1d20] = 19 [1d20] = 16 [1d20] = 15 [1d20] = 11
natives [1d20] = 8 [1d20] = 5 [1d20] = 5 [1d20] = 20
natives [1d20] = 5 [1d20] = 2 [1d20] = 2 [1d20] = 17

Smiling after seeing the warrior distracted by the monkey butt, Siggard pulls out one of his pistols.

He takes the time to aim very carefully, trying to pick an enemy that would benefit most from a lead ball to the head.

Pistol Attack [1d20] = 17 Damage [2d4] = 3

The colorful furry baboon swings down by his tail, trying to bite the snakeman for looking at him funny.

Random d20 [1d20] = 15

Hit Die [1d4] = 3

Sorry for any confusion, just using random macros for these rolls.

The melee in the forest continues, it becomes a bloody pitched mass of hollering natives and the slithering and chanting of a serpent man against the hollering of a wild summoned baboon (no, not Rexlin but a close cousin!) and the fatigued pirates.

Pocc manages to slice through the ribcage of a native warrior, severing his spine. The body crumples to the floor. It is soon joined by his tribal brothers, two natives both shot as they charged relentlessly into the fray only to be headshot by Siggard and Lazarus. The baboon jumps from the branch onto the back of the native poking him with a spear. It snatches the spear off the man, breaking it half and clubs him mercilessly to death with it. The baboon celebrates his victory by jumping maniacally on the corpse torso and mooning a scarlet bum cheek at the other figures.

Rexlin,
his dandy red shirt dripping scarlet dye in the sweat of battle, backhands a native through the throat, Zoggrot's boarding axe chops another's skull as a woodmen might split off cuts for the hearth. Grimwald and Goldie, despite being seriously injured combine to deadly effect. Each thrusting the guts of a native who drops dead between them. Only Geoffrey and Holden miss time their attacks. With more than three quarters of the native group dead, the remaining natives turn to hurriedly flee into the shadowy forest.

The patter of feet disappear among the trees and overgrowth. All is silent again save for the hard breathing of the party. A quick search of the bodies reveals only trinkets and baubles, they carried nothing of consequential value. (apart from more XP!). The group press on to catch the other folk up.

That second group, a few minutes ahead bypass the girls camp and head downwards following Elijah's 'call of the ocean'. The children shepherded along by the priest of Poseidon. The escape to the sloop becomes a frantic chase through the game trail, thorn bushes ripping fabrics and skin, Iggway surveys the trees ahead aware that they passed this way before. Her tank of snakes and experimental equipment weighing heavy upon her. Erika, the young girl exorcised of the lycan blood curse, offers to carry some of her burden. "Will Pa be coming with us? Will you try that incantation again to save Erik before the moon comes up tonight?"she asks mournfully.

Her mother Lucille frowns unsure of the whereabouts of Logan, last seen being chased by natives into the forest. "Maybe I should go back, check he isn't with Padre Claude. He would come with us, leave this dreadful place. I should go and look while you board, what harm can a few minutes be?" she says and begins to move off the game trail. A snap is heard from a small branch under her footsteps.

okay everyone narrate an action and I will post the final conclusions to the scenario

Siggard Hagslayer commands his colorful monkey to give chase on the fleeing snakemen, trying to prevent them from getting any idea of turning and following the group to the shore.

After taking the time to reload his pistol, he follows the group to the ship, keeping a wary eye out for any other trouble along the way.
