Geoffrey will attempt to retreat away from the snakes, hoping no more bite him before he succumbs.

Looks around the passage where he is guarding for anything he can surmise from his surroundings. Maybe any sign the Sister had been brought through here? Signs of the recent passage of persons or beast? Are there Bats on the ceiling? Guano on the ground? Fortune cookies? Wait... Those would be bugs, right?

Siggard allows the songsmith some space at the door, hoping there is something else to be heard coming from inside. He cant shake the ominous feeling that he got after entering this place, but he is sure the mystery will reveal itself eventually, good or bad.

He whispers to Holden once he is done.
"I don't like being in here one bit. This seems like a death trap to me. If I had any idea that this cave complex would be so vast, I think we would have taken a more logical approach to entering. Lets see what we find up ahead in the main chamber before we open any of these side rooms. If we find the sister, lets just get the heck out of here before we are overtaken by their indomitable numbers."

The mage sneaks up ahead even further, hoping that he wont be spotted in the dark. He tries to get a look into the chamber with the drumming.

Native Village: Pachucapatls Cave:

Holden decides to tune his ear into the sounds emanating beyond the curtain of the second room. He listens to the constant hog sound of a man snoring, breathing in turbulent passages of air traveling over his open mouth, vibrating loudly upon his tongue, tonsils, and adenoids. His throaty uvula ringing like a tuning fork. Beyond the disgusting drone Holden hears a softer sound. A womans' voice, calling on some deity in prayer, in frustration, in weeping, in pain. She is out of view but a clink of chains scrape on the ground.

Rexlin takes point again which means he sneaks to the end of the cut passageway. To the right a narrow adjoining passageway opens which leads off in a straight passage and then up a flight of stone cut stairs. The stairs have a bannister rail on one side and pot plants on each step. You feel a breeze coming down from the steps and a faint smell of a distant bonfire. Further up the main passage you hear the loud rhythms of tribal drumming, bass and tenor voices in unison chanting some trance like vocals.

Siggard feels the heckles rise on his neck, already struggling with vague memories of mage school and lessons of spells he could have learned. The catches up with the marine and as a pair they sneak as close as safety allows to peek beyond the end of the passageway. What you see alarms you...

The auditorium is indeed a large cavern room, a circular natural domed rock cave about 80'ft in diameter. Large flat topped low boulders have been made into benches around the circumference. Seated on these and kneeling on the ground in front of them is an assembly of native warriors. crowded together they chant and pray, bowing to the ground or stand raising arms to the heavens as the line of drummers beat a constant ritual. In front of stone altar stands a tall majestic figure. In your eyes he looks a rather charismatic figure, wise, powerful and commanding. A savage yes, but a noble one defending his ancestral culture. Dressed in a costume resembling a fabled glorious winged Coatyl (a famed flying serpent, often portrayed as celestial servants), he dances and struts before the cowering men. Behind him writhes an enormous constrictor snake. Seeing this you pick out in the flickering torchlight, detritus piles of bones and skulls littering the place. The python must be at least 20'ft long and thicker than an ogres thigh never mind an orcs'. It sways to the drumming. The whole scene is hypnotic and engrossing, only the prompting of Holden tears your eyes away. Presently you remain unseen and unnoticed at the back of this native ritual.

actions please.

Infirmary Raid

The focus switches to the main corridor as the spitting cobras launch acidic burning ejections of poisonous fluid at the intruders. Pocc receives a face full but mercifully he is able to rinse his eyes and cry enough to wipe the toxic venom away. Red raw eyes and stinging but still able to see. Geoffrey stares wide eyed at the ferocity and scaly beauty of these fascinating creatures. He is a target they cannot miss, Blood pours sweat and tears from his eyes as the venom irritates him so much that he staggers back blinded by the strong poison coursing through his eyeballs. Blinded and -4 to hit penalty. With no physical damage you will need either to wait it out or receive a specific 'cure blindness' spell. or man up and 'feel your way' ahead.

Zoggrot takes his cue from Elijah, to clear the foyer from any serpents. He swipes at retreating serpents, not slaying any but steering some towards the open double doors. Heeding a prior warning of an unseen figure, shaman Iggway intones a Protection spell, warding herself from any summoned creatures with evil intent. Just as well, the green decaying fingers of a black dark wretch opens the birthing room door and leaps out into the foyer stepping on several serpents as it attacks the party. Hissing snakes aggressively bite at it but despite latching on with their venomous fangs the creature seems immune to these effects. It makes a grab for the doom laden prophet of the sea...wight attack, z,e,i,pc [1d4] = 2 [1d20] = 7 [1d4] = 2 but fails to wreak a life wrenching strangle, life draining bleach on his nemesis' hoary throat. Elijah halts the wights progress across the foyer by stabbing it but his prongs just rip bits of decayed flesh and clothing rags from the living dead.

"Gaston, what have you become? I command your evil spirit to decease from your mortal body, away from us!" exclaims Padre Claude as the settler in wight form attacks. Raising his holy symbol higher and trying to drive back the farmer that was, the Padres' faith is heard turn attempt [1d20] = 6 [2d6] = 6 and the creature reacts by screaming and cowering away, going back through the doors into the small room beyond. It rails in futile gestures of anger, tossing bits of broken furniture against the door.

actions please

The captain raise his steady hand and blasts a cobra with pistol shot, splattering the hooded head in slithers of meat across the vivarium doors. A dark shadow moves across the face of frosted glass panes of the door, melding as one with the darkness perceived beyond.

Holden fetches the others quickly barely able to look away from the scene unfolding in front of him, "Absolutely fascinating", he mumbles to himself before snapping out of it. "I found our missing sister", he takes them back to the door with the sleeping guard behind it.

He examines it further trying to determine a way in, it can't possibly be that it only opens from one side he thinks to himself. He checks the strength of the bolts keeping the door closed.

Zoggrot is reaching his silvered throwing daggers, ready to wade in to combat with the wight, when Padre Claude turns the thing away. So he returns to the immediate task of clearing the room of cobras.

Cutlass (THAC0 20): [1d20+1] = 15+1 = 16. Dmg: [1d6+3] = 6+3 = 9/[1d8+3] = 4+3 = 7 (SM/L)

Shakes his head to clear it and looks at Holden "great work! " he whispers.

Once they are at the door he nudges the other two pointing with his thumb and making a motion like he was ramming his shoulder into it. He the points at the two of them and drags a finger across his throat. He waits for a response.

Siggard suddenly develops a wizards intuition after being pulled away from the large cavern. It is as if a lantern was suddenly lit inside his brain.

He whispers to the others as they move back to the curtain covered door.

"I think I finally have an idea of what is going on here. Thank you Holden for pulling us out of there. I almost felt like I was going to walk in there and join them for a moment until you grabbed my shoulder. Did you feel that too Rex? Well, at least I think I have discovered why."

"That dressed up man in there has some power to him and I believe that he owns a magical hold over these natives. There is an old incantation that will sway a persons favor towards you if they do not overcome the power to resist. I believe that the stone above the cave entrance is magical and has a power to sway, just like the spell I speak of. It is a great way to make "friends", but in this case, I think that shaman is using it to dupe the other natives into following some snake god cult or something similar."

"Let Holden try to open the door from this side before busting it open physically. If he cant, then we should time the shoulder bash out with the sounds of the beating drums. If my intuition is correct, those natives in there are in some sort of trance anyway. But the leader might still hear us if we aren't careful. I would like to get out of here unnoticed if we can, seeing as how we still haven't secured the statue and we don't really know what is happening with Gin outside."

The mage nods at Holden, hoping he has some ideas about how to get past the door quietly.

Hearing Siggard he looks impressed and more than a little surprised at the explanation. Not because he doubts the wizard, but because he realizes it makes perfect sense. "Suppose those gents in there are not here willingly. Could we just shoot that froggy bastard and free them before they turn into snake kibble? Or smash the rock?"

Siggard Hagslayer replies as Holden looks over the door.

"I thought that as well, but now might not be the time for such heroics. Lets see if we can get what we came here for and cross that bridge once we get back to the others. I think the cap'n might have something to say about all of this. Besides, we need to get back outside to Gin before they flay his ass like those poor bastards strung up out there."

Siggard is getting all kinds of new ideas form somewhere. Remembering that Holden hasn't started with his thief training yet, the mage offers another helping hand to this locked door dilemma.

He mentally commands his invisible helper to slip its mass through the crack of the door, hoping it will be strong enough to simply slide the locks open from the inside.

The mage looks at the others coyly and whispers one last thing to them.

"Get ready......"

Native Village: Inside Pachucapatls cave:

The auditorium offers insight into the mystic tribal culture and the Orphiological cult (snake worship). The chief Pachucapatl holds a charismatic hold over the warriors assembled in the cave. Assuming it to be a temple of sorts the ritual is engrossing to watch and fervency to support and cheer on the leader rises in provocative thoughts However the pressing need of Sister Adelaide turns your attentions away and with Holden suspecting he has found the captive, in hushed discussions the trio debate the best way to go forward or backwards. Rexlin is all for charging in, intending brute force and violence on the sleeping guard. Siggard remembers the ethereal presence of his summoned aide and it manifests on the interior of the room and slides the two bolts back.

The door opens easily revealing a set of caves, each with an ornate mosaic of floor tiles. Swishes across the dusty floor look like a maid has casually swept by. The small circular caves rooms are each about 20'ft in diameter, the entrance one, one directly opposite and another to the immediate right. (An L shaped set...8o). Smouldering candles lit on a marble stone tableau flicker in dying light from the second cave. Some figurines stand upon it, sparkling in the dimness. In the cave on the right, a woman kneels. Chains between her ankles drag on the floor and her hands are tied by a thick hemp to a metal cuff linked to the wall.. She has a bloodied head wound and her clerical clothes are partially torn. She fervently clutches a holy symbol on a beaded rosary as she prays incoherently. A stuffed mattress of straw, a serving plate of humble breads and fruits and a spilled tankard pushed aside. She hardly notices you as the door is opened.

Your eyes would take note of all this and feast upon the information but to your alarm the sleeping guard, resting on some luxuriant cushions in the ante-chamber is no mere native warrior. Creatures of legend, half man half beast are the vanguard of faerie stories. Centaurs, Satyrs, were creatures. But this imposing figure is like none you have encountered before, From the torso upwards the figure has the broad muscles and head of a male warrior. From the waist down he has a long serpent like tail. It is awash with colourful scales and several feet in length. Strapped around the snakeman's body are two swords. An empty jug of hooch lies sprawled at his feet...no his tail.

You have a surprise round of action, gentlemen please...

Infirmary Raid:

Zoggrot's long reach with his cutlass neatly severs one of the spitting cobras in half, the portions wriggle in death spasms. The half-orc has a habit of slicing his opponents in twain, cleaving a mobster, a native and now a snake in equal disregard. Beside him Lazarus stabs the third. Pocc tries to stone the last but his slingshot ricochets wide, bouncing unceremoniously off the frosted door panes, eliciting only a small crack. This fourth serpent reacts by striking out ineffectually, latching onto one of the thick armoured gaiters of the druid.

Geoffrey steps back into the warded square, held in force by the chanting Iggway. Padre Claude and Elijah decide to hunt down Gaston the Wight, still shrieking and fleeing from the divine radiance cast by the Turn attempt."I fear Roger too has come under this evil oppression to rise as a 'diabolique' also." says the padre, unsure of the whereabouts of his former aide. The creature pitifully flees the commanding presence of the cleric quick to avoid the splashing of holy water, squirted from the wineskin of Poseidon's acolyte. Gaston shrivels in pain at the few drops that fizzle and burn into his decayed blackened hide, running into the larger ante-natal room.

The foyer is clear of dangerous snakes apart from those swaying under the influence of the snake charm spell. The two doors to the top offices remain closed and the corridor leading off is dark and cluttered with a jumble of wrecked boxes and cabinets. The four doors on the bottom rooms are all ajar, the wight fled into the first room. "We have some study notes on relieving the symptons of snake poisons in the health clinic cupboards." the padre offers in comfort to the blinded pirate. Though whatever dangers lie in that room may outweigh the benefits of searching for the healing scrolls.

actions please, Iggway, you may opt to do an action and another cleric take over the warding chant if you desire.

Pocc takes out his scimitar instead since the sling is doing little of any use and tries to slice the snake instead. Scimitar [1d20] = 14 to hit, [1d8] = 3 dmg
